Big name artists you have seen live on 23:40 - Oct 1 by BarryTownSwam | Bad Manners (23 gigs) - in my humble opinion the best live band and pissed dancing gig. Was at a gig in Northampton 2004 and Buster Bloodvessel (Doug) collapsed on stage. After a minute or two some band members grew concerned, signalled to security & various people rushed to help. Paramedics were called and it took 8 men to stretcher him off stage & to the waiting ambulance. A bouncer told me & those standing nearby me that Buster had died ! Heartless piss heads that we were conjured up a chant "we were there when Buster died" which soon spread through the 500+ crowd. Eventually the band played on without him. Great time. Was on route driving to a Bad Manners gig in Leeds in 2010 and passed the band sitting on the M1 North grass verge with their tour bus broken down in hard shoulder. Stopped my car & ended up giving four of the band a lift to the gig. Spent three days driving them to gigs, living in hotels, socialising, eating & drinking (mostly drinking!) with the band. Great days. Lads asked how they could repay me and I cheekily explained I was getting married three weeks later and would they play at my wedding reception party. Band were booked for a gig on that date but played at my wedding reception venue at 4pm (after the speeches) and Buster lead a toast & serenaded my new wife. The band are in my wedding photos ! Again, great days. Frankie Goes To Hollywood played a tour warm up gig at Northampton Hot Air Balloon Festival - 20 August 2005. I was working on the bar all day so watched them arrive, set up and perform a 20 minute sound check. Just call it 'artistic differences' arose and the sound check was halted when a 4 man brawl kicked of on stage. There was a substitute lead singer as Holly Johnson wasn't on the tour and he landed a swinging left hook in a band member ! Two of the band refused to perform that evening's gig - the tour was later cancelled and the band split up. Fantastic gig that night. |
Stop the thread, you've pissed it with this post. Brilliant. When you say "socialising, eating & drinking", you surely mean bucket loads of class A's?

Big name artists you have seen live on 21:24 - Oct 1 by Darran | My mate went to see Paul McCartney the other night and Billy walked on. You probably know that though. |
I only found out by mistake. Don't think I'd waste my money going to see Macca now, still singing in the same key. Paul Simon and Mylie Cyrus guested on Saturday with Billy. Not the best so I've heard, probably on YouTube somewhere. Can recommend John Owen Jones in December if anyone wants to take their wife out just before Xmas.

Not first time around, but did see them in TJ's in the 90's. Jon Langford was also in the wonderful Three Johns who I saw twice-once at Gorseinon Leisure Centre supporting Billy Bragg and again at TJ's- 'Death Of A European' was them at their peak, and The Mekons- 'Where Were You'- what a song. He still regularly plays at Le Pub in Newport-good taste Darren!

Some of his art work has been used on t-shirts. Here's the legend Rick Nielsen wearing one.

Big name artists you have seen live on 18:48 - Oct 4 with 1844 views | GreatBritton | I'm a tad surprised tht no one has mentioned The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Saw Arthur doing Fire in 1967. Honourable mention also for Bonzo Dog Doodah Band and the unforgettable My Pink Half od the Drainpipe. Saw Neil Innes and friends (and the exploding wardrobe) about the same time. I went to see Hendrix too but changed my mind at the door and went home to watch Match of the Day instead. I was obviously a comedy rather than a music fan. Subsequently I have seen Dylan - way past his best and Clapton - at his best. I think my prize memory is Muddy Waters. Manchester some time in the seventies.
