Who's your money on then? Probably the All Blacks in all likelihood. I'm hoping that Wales have a strong showing - hopefully we will make the semis at least. Going to be tough though.

I do as well.

I was wondering - how did rugby become such a big thing in Japan? Anyone know? Most countries that play do so because of colonial links to countries that played rugby. But Japan seems to have just started to play?

Jamie Joseph the coach was an ex All Black and he's raised the profile massively.
"Our" Shane went over there as there's been a lot of big companies investing in the game.

Incredible

This is rugby as it should be. We should rejoice even if our own team lost to this sort of play.

Anyway, what does Andy Nichol think? Jocks unlucky?

Plus the "Sunwolves" of Japan have played in the Super rugby tournament (15 sides) in the southern hemisphere for a few seasons now, so they'll pick up good skills playing Kiwi, bok and Aussies franchises.
There is also one Argy franchise the Jaguares.

Magnificent.

Their accuracy with ball in hand is sensational. It's beyond human.

Not over yet mind. Remember sweaties at Twick?

Nah...it’s over isn’t it? They have to win by more than seven. Would also set Sexwees paddies up against the blacks. Sweet.

Sorry - when I said ‘just started to play’ I didn’t mean recently started. I meant ‘started for no usual reason’. No real links to countries that already played. They have played for a century as you point out and I wondered why. It’s obvious why Australia, NZ, Canada, Argentina, SA play. Their links to the old European countries playing.

Same as cricket is big in the countries that were colonised by people playing the game.

I was just interested to know if there was a reason it took off in a country that seemingly had no real links to the countries that played it.

They are letting the ball "go through the hands", it's refreshing to see a backline confident in handling skills

It's like watching Clement, Titley et al at St.Helens!!

As a result of the Anglo-Japanese alliance at the start of the twentieth century according to Wiki. In the seventies they all used to be so small though !

I’ve just found an article that explains what happened.

On another note - if only all rugby could go back to being played like this. It’s just wonderful to watch.

The game has opened up a bit here. Scots look dangerous in attack , this will be a test for Japan's defence.
