Definitely Newby, Done squared it to him. As others have said, Newby looks to have summat about him, I thought he'd been signed as a winger but maybe he'll be an option to solve our forward problems.
Ryan's 30 yard screamer was the highlight, more of them this season would be welcome. All of the youngsters acquitted themselves alright, I thought Hopper stood out as having a decent game. Norwich trialist LB did nothing spectacular but did owt wrong. All in all it's just good to get the first friendly out of the way without any (obvious) injuries, it's still far too early to have learned anything from it.

Thought Hopper was much better in midfield in the second half. First half at right back he didn't really look as assured.
Thought Brierley? Looked very good in the second half.

Although many suggest we need one anyway, we might need a new keeper if he keeps having to climb over the fence to grab the ball.
Hard to tell being a friendly but Newby has a bit of the Hogan about him, it might just be the way he runs but looks very comfortable anywhere on the pitch.
That first sentence brought back memories. "Go and fag it! "

Well it was great to finally watch a Dale game again after 5 long months.
Can't believe we paid £6 for the cameraman to be sat in the corner though? Made watching the game fairly difficult to be honest.
First half was entertaining, some nice link up play & Newby was the standout player for me. Didn't see enough of the LB during the first half. Was also difficult to tell who was who at points as none of our players had numbers on their backs.
Second half was a bit of a non-event in my opinion. Tavares & Baah both did lots of running but didn't really get anywhere, Rathbone had a few nice turns & runs but by this point I'd had a few cans & can't really remember anything else standing out.

Given the limitations of the ground, I don't think the camerawork at all bad:

That's a completely different (and much better) angle than the one that was used for the live feed though. I'm not criticising, it was only £6 after all and was just good to watch Dale again, but 1907's observation that it was sometimes difficult to tell the players apart is correct.

And with both wearing light kits, it was a difficult to differentiate between who was on which team at times on those highlights!
