Barrow (A) Match Thread on 21:56 - Jan 3 by fourfourtwo | I think the top and bottom of it is that you live and die by your signings. Some of this tripe we’ve got on the books are going to be on relatively similar wages (pre-inflation) to some of the best players in our history. For the Ball, Diagouraga & EEL generation, we once had Vincenti, Cavanagh & Eastham. I doubt any of the later three were on big money when you consider where they were signed from, but they were a completely different calibre of player, yet technically from the same standard or stock pool. The issue is Robbie Stockdale has absolutely destroyed our first team by signing the worst squad in the history of the club. I know people don’t want to talk about Stockdale and dig up the past, but ultimately he is going to do more damage to the club than even Bottomley did. |
Agree entirely around the standard of signings and examples given. Stockdale’s signings have turned out to be very poor, much in the same way Eyre’s and Coleman’s were, but they were experienced pros/players who looked on paper to have potential to either add to what we had or push on in their careers. They clearly have failed miserably so far. And let’s not forget Coleman signed Cavanagh and he was receiving plenty of criticism until Hill came back! It’s not only the standard of signings, it’s whether enough of those can be developed as well. This lot haven’t been. There are so many similarities to where we are now as to where we were in 2012 on the pitch. Especially the lack of connection between fans and players with regards to how we see them representing our club.

Barrow (A) Match Thread on 14:36 - Jan 3 by scooby | in the last accounts it states: employee staff costs of £3.2m (2020: £3.4m). no other breakdown provided but i only glanced through it. |
Carlisle United have just published their accounts. Their total wage bill has increased to £2.9m. That is all wages and not just the playing staff. Interesting their commercial income is £2m with retail income of £0.3m. They have made a small profit for the third year in a row. Their debts are c£3.5m and noted that they will take a bigger hit this year due to rising interest rates. Interesting that their total salary bill is lower than our last published number

Some interesting details have emerged about their debts... Are they gambling the house on promotion this season?

Griff will no doubt be aling to tell us. But that money was borrowed from a backer to cover the covid period and the cost of managing their flooding. They havd clearly not borrowed cash to pay for playing staff or wages. Remember we borrowed too to get through the covid period. Also the statement showed they have grown commercial income significantly - sponsorship and retail. A strategy we need to adopt
Barrow (A) Match Thread on 12:36 - Jan 4 with 1911 views | griff | As a general rule it goes lies….damned lies….statistics…..whatever’s in the Daily Mail then football club accounts. An awful lot can be lost in there, in our case the overvaluation of our ground based on rebuilding costs even though what we currently have is on a flood plain. We currenly owe a lot to Philip Day who is/was the force behind EWM and Purepay which is where the debt currently lies. The problem is that we are generating interest at commercial rates and neither the loan nor the interest are being paid back so the outstanding bill increases month on month. The main cause of that is that Purepay won’t talk about a repayment plan and, as they seem to be a Company that isn’t trading, may not be talking at all. And of course this is cementing the current bunch of owners into place as there are personal guarantees in place and loan has all Club assets as collateral. If Philip Day has a bad night’s sleep and calls in the loan then we’re deader than corduroy.
