QPR - State of Play 13:33 - Nov 17 with 10937 viewsMonkey_Roots

Roughly a third of the way through the season - where's your head at?

So far it's been bad, awful, better, then really good, then poor, before settling on boring...

Reason to be positive:
The squad - its as competitive as its been for many a season.

Reason to be worried:
Inconsistent performances all round

What i'm hopeful for:
Now the internationals are done, we can settle into a bit of a rhythm.

Win on Saturday and we're all buzzing. Lose and we're all fuming. It was ever thus.

There are a handful of us that have it the other way round.

What's the point of researching the opposition's weaknesses forensically if you go on camera and tell everyone about it?

You tell me!

Poll: What do you expect from the Charlton game?

Apologies for being very late to the party with this thread, but I've been trying to not think about Rangers this week as they've been so frustrating lately. But this is a good question and thread so here are my random thoughts.

Positive;
I really can't warm to Nourry as a person (I find him condescending, arrogant and egotistical) but I have to agree with his long term plan, and he clearly learns quickly as the transfer business this season is far better than last, and in fact, I think that the squad is the best we've had for some time.  The squad depth is also night and day from previous recent seasons.

I still love going to Loftus Rd, more for the mates and banter than the football most of the time at the moment, but I also love how high our attendances are.  If only we could put a decent team on the pitch that would win more than it lost, we are right on the launch pad for some real fun.

 Worried;
I am becoming increasingly worried about the manager.  I know he is new to the division and even the country, but he was brought in to develop players and because of his experience with a young squad - and especially as he took Rennes through three game weeks.  Frankly his performance to date on all of that has been awful.

Also I simply cannot stand it when a manager talks such utter drivel in interviews stating black is white etc. "our best performance of the season" when we've lost.  Even the club comms team tried to sort that rubbish out in the next pre match chat asking about that claptrap.

But the biggest issue is that the team don't seem very well coached or well drilled, and the team selections are often crazy.  How can a dozen coaches with ipads sit on the bench in matching kit and talk 'tactics' and then not see that their high press against Southampton was doomed to failure as we were outnumbered by one...so they just played it around around us and Burrell wasted endless energy chasing around trying to follow orders.  Or the 12 identical corners into the same area to their collection of seven foot defenders who hadn't missed a header all day. Or the ridiculous wall set up for the Ipswich free kicks.

These are really really basic things.  It's almost like he picks the players and a formation and just tells them to go out there and give it a go.  It is such a shame as we have a decent team (minus a proper 8), but he isn't doing much with them.

Plus they weren't fit to start with.

We knew the first quarter of the season was 'easy'. At best we were about average through that lot - but the dropped points against Oxford and Sheff Wed were always going to come home to roost, and they are now.

I hate switching managers but I currently can't see how this underperformance can continue much longer.

Hopeful;
That we might find a settled team.

Mbengue might be a big hit as right back.

Kone and Burrell could get to double figures and if and when Poku gets fit he might be the real deal.

I hate to be negative - but I'm also pretty confident that we won't be in a relegation scrap this season, which is something to be thankful for!

I'm also hopeful that we might get six points out of the next nine....but I might be mad!
