Absolute nonsense to be rotating our goalkeepers like they're Shilton and Clemence under Ron Greenwood. Saito back in...because of course. Hayden dropped for having the temerity to tackle. And of course its 4-4-2. I still think we'll win though. |

I am confident we will win this, if only because any points Sheffield Wednesday get this season are semi-miraculous given the state of the club. It'll be interesting to see what names the Tinkerman pulls out of the hat. |

Just watched the goals back for the first time. Jimmy lets his man go for the first. He's played well recently but that is poor defending. |

I have always liked wingers (it's very QPR) and they've all shown flashes this season. Not consistently obviously, but I like the idea of having four players fighting for two places; it should spur them on to perform even if it's not working at the moment. However, the main problem we have is that the team is unbalanced. There's no point having two wingers and two strikers if you are losing the midfield like we did yesterday. Similarly, there's no point having two wingers if your main tactic is booting the ball down the middle onto the opposition central defender's head. [Post edited 2 Jan 17:41]

Good news. He did a good job for us but has been absolutely awful this season. I reckon he'll move back to Europe. |

Their keeper could have assembled a flat pack yesterday too. |

I agree that the starting line-up itself was okay. Didn't see much in-game management though. Wingers swapped. I suppose Morgan in midfield was an attempt to get on the front foot which didn't work. Kolli won some headers but wasn't on very long. It just seemed very one dimensional. Maybe he could have gone with three in the middle to try and win the midfield - they seemed first to most second balls, particularly in the second half. If you lose the midfield, you won't win many games. No point having two wingers and two strikers if you barely create a chance. |

If he knows it why didn't he play it against West Brom? Also (not wholly his fault), who is his first-choice goalkeeper? JCS, I agree but think that ship has sailed now. Chair, 100% for one of the wingers. Poku, not sure he starts for Stephan/Nourry over Saito. |

Yes, I agree. He's far too deep for me. |
 | Forum Reply | Is anyone else feeling a bit depressed this evening? at 21:03 1 Jan 2026
It was a very poor first half with both teams looking decidedly average. So they come back out and rather than stepping it up, we're one down straightaway. Did their keeper even have to make a save in the remaining 53 minutes? I missed the goal. The third poor performance in a row and very much deja vu as Clive suggested in his preview. Will we ever get out of this division? Sisyphus has nothing on us. Even our fellow Championship addicts Preston look more likely to get out of it than us. I wouldn't say I'm depressed because it's just football but it was such a tedious way of spending New Year's Day. Let me roll that boulder up the hill again... [Post edited 1 Jan 21:10]

How many times have we actually played well this season? A handful? Still not convinced by Stephan. Today was absolute dross with barely any pattern of play other than boot it up onto their central defender's head. It's a shame as a play-off spot is there for the taking. Unfortunately, we were spoiled that year of Warnock. |

Absolute dross. Missed our goal as I left when their second went in. For someone who was supposedly appointed for his ability to manage three-game weeks, he's not doing great, is he? |

Not sure how someone with Field's touch can play as a 10. It's batshit crazy |

Well, so he either chose to leave Smyth and Kolli on the bench yesterday (crap management) or he was told to. I'm inclined to believe the latter. It will be interesting to see what happens with them both in January. Kolli is the most bizarre. He's 'injured' then back on the bench but the manager prefers to play Sam Field at 10 in a game in which we create nothing? Completely normal, I'm sure. |

Yes, I'm where you are. I actually think the squad is capable of making the play-offs, particularly with a couple of acquisitions in the window. I get that teams can be inconsistent and you need to rotate to a degree but why on earth is Kolli sitting on the bench while Sam Field plays as a number ten? That's just shocking management, and as ever with Stephan, I'm not entirely convinced he makes the final call on who plays - see also Smyth and his contract situation. |

Absolute crap. Stephan still not learning with his tinkering and slow in-game management. West Brom were there for the taking and we got what we deserved. |
