I am not sure there is prize money in the National League. The real prize is the estimated £1m - £1.5m per season that a club gains from being back in the EFL.
Southend released their results a few days ago. They claimed to make £1.7m from their share of ticket sales at the Wembley play-off final last year. Accepting that their Wembley crowd was 3 or 4 times ours, and the ticket pricing may have been higher as a result, it might suggest Dale earned a few hundred thousand from Sunday. And of course we retained 50% of gate proceeds from the semi final game (after costs).
Maybe doing it the long way round has allowed the club to earn a decent sum that far outweighs prize money. |  | | |

On the other side of the coin the club will no doubt, after Sunday, have to pay out contractual bonus payments for gaining promotion.
I’d be surprised if most players didn’t have that sort of clause in their contracts and I bet Big Jim and his coaching staff are due similar rewards as well. | | | |
