The Emirates is rubbish - seats too far away from the pitch, and very poor atmosphere. The bowl shape seems to reflect all the crowd noise up into the sky. You need a rectangular shape to contain the noise within the stadium. |  | | |

I am a little bit suspicious of Populous. On the positive side it looks like they try and make every stadium unique. Each one seems like an artistic 'statement'. But I do wonder if that's what's needed for a dedicated football stadium.
The best new football stadia seem to me to be defined by their simplicity. I am thinking of:
Estádio do Dragão, Porto (Capacity: 89,000)
The Red Bull Arena, New York (Capacity: 25,000)
Juventus Stadium, Turin (Capacity: 41,000) |  |
