Abysmal can we please start attacking teams. 3rd on goal difference. 17:09 - Nov 23 with 7608 viewsqprno1fan

with the talent at our disposal we should be smashing teams 3 or 4 most weeks. Why oh why does Harry insist on one up front at home. We are now officially the most boring team on the planet.

We won and kept a clean sheet but we need to do better at the other end.

Although the performance was far far from abysmal i do worry when we are 1 up and start knocking it around with almost arrogance that we are one slip from a sucker punch.

Win 10 games out of 16, including 7 out of 8 at home. Best defensive record in the League. Attendances running at 95% of capacity, joint top 7 points clear of the tea min fourth place, while coping with a catalogue of injuries.

If that is "abysmal" I need to get a new dictionary.

Ah, the old joint top misapprehension is back.

No such thing. We're third. If the season ended this weekend, we'd be in the playoffs.

We have a situation where Harry has taken a shambles of a football team and had to rebuild both in terms of attitude and morale over a few weeks. The result is 10 wins out of 15 and an ave of half a goal conceded per game. He has had to deal with plenty of injuries and some superb opposition keeping. Sure we could go 2 up front and be a bit more positive in substitutions. But how anyone can seriously complain given the turnaround is beyond belief. The OP needs to get a reality check.

The OP is OTT, I must admit, IMO etc.
But that shouldn't stop us critiquing Harry's frankly ridiculous caution. Charlton should have been spanked on Sat, simple as that. Glad we won, great goal, there are plenty of decent things about this side, but there's no reason on earth why the team can't be a bit more positive.
The old 'injuries' argument is hilarious. Can you imagine fans of other teams from this division hearing that? Hoilett's injured - it's ok, Niko f'n Krancjar will play, and we'll still have Traore, SWP and AJ on the bench!
As we used to sing in the old days: 'ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK!'

I would like to see us play with a fully fit first 11 before I make full judgements. That game had so much space to run into at times but we lacked the personnel to do it. Kranjcar and Hoilett can/do but Niko was well off the pace and Hoilett obviously injured, Phillips still a bit rusty and O'Neil has been nursning a knock, same with Jenas.

I think a fully fit Barton/Carroll/Kranjcar/Phillips/Hoilett midfield will give the performances and results we all want. It does seem churlish to complain but when teams as awful as Charlton are there for the taking and you sneak a win, it becomes a little frustrating, especially when we have such a one sided GD column.

When I came away from the game on Saturday I was thinking, same old QPR, even when things are going well we are still only one mistake or fluke or piece of luck for the opposition to get something from a game where we have totally dominated.

Let me be frank here - yes we are doing well, yes we are doing better than I expected us to do based on the finish last season, but so we bloody well should with the 1st team squad we have. I am more pro-Harry than anti-Harry, but I am skeptical enough to watch the ways he continually plays the poor mouth to the press in terms of a paper thin squad, injuries, needing loans etc.

With the financial backing we have, a respected and seasoned old pro top 6 Premier League manager who many thought would be the next England manager, with the likes of Green, Dunne, Simpson, BAE, Barton, NK, Phillips, Austin, even SWP and Hoilett, it is not just flannel to say that we have the best squad in the Championship, we do and being on the same points as the top 2 and having conceded only 8 goals in 16 games and only been defeated once, we are doing what we should be doing and I am happy for that.

However, the OP did have a point, be it that is was totally OTT in the way it was presented, we should have been putting some of these teams to the sword in these home games and we have not - which is why we are behind Burnley in GD by about 8.

The difference between now and 2011 when we won the league, was it was to a certain extent unexpected and unprecedented and despite the Faurlingate saga providing a nervous ending to the final weeks it was enjoyable to be part of.

Once this season was bedded in to 10-12 games we can see that we SHOULD have what it takes to get out of this division, not by divine right, but just look at our bench on Saturday as an example of how other teams and fans must see us from the outside.

Where I would have been tearing my hair out on Saturday (if I had any) was that once we had the 1-0 advantage we were so cautious it was infuriating. Any time we hit them on the break he had a max of three players (including the one with the ball) in the vicinity of the opposition penalty area whilst the rest were forming a back 6 formation near the centre circle. All very slow to attack, all very timid. Perhaps that is the way that Harry wants us to work this year, play the ball around demoralize the opposition, grab a goal and then defend the lead to try and secure the 3 points as I would expect that regardless of what comes out of the club, the board have a minimum requirement on Harry to get us up. If that is the case, then so be it.

It's all going to plan, and that's fine, but really, so it should be, but a few more goals would be nice so that when the opposition get a free kick on the edge of the box in the 92nd minute we are not still schitting ourselves that we are going to throw away 2 points every home game.

Well, I was bit disappointed with the overall perfomance on Saturday but a win is a win. We need wins whether we, the fans, are entertained or not as long as we get promoted. Goal difference might come into it at the end of the season but we don't know that right now.

The OP is over the top. It was nowhere near an abysmal performance - just boring until Mr Austin stepped in with the goal.

So I'm not complaining - just making an observation.

Has any team ever won the League in November?
At this stage does goal difference matter?
Charlton may not be much of an attacking force but have a decent defensive record.

Of course, we'd like to be scoring more. But here's a reminder from 2009/10

17 Oct v Preston (H) Won 4-0
20 Oct v Reading (H) Won 4-1
24 Oct v Derby (A) Won 4-2

3 times on the bounce we scored 4.
At the end of the season we finished 13th

Spot on Bosh.

I think in 2010/11 we all couldn't quite believe it. No one expected it. We all thought our run would end some time, and we only really faltered a bit at Christmas and a bit at the end. But this season is very different. We're all delighted that we're not struggling badly as some predicted and we all feared, but the truth is we *should* be right up there, regardless of manager.

People can point to how poor we were last season, and how bad attitudes were, well, two things here:

1. Harry didn't have to keep picking Bosingwa, or Mbia once he gave up.
2. The only player who played consistently in our side last season who is still playing consistently this season is Clint Hill. OK, kudos for helping them gel together quickly, but Warnock started 2010 with a whole new backbone to the side too - and we were never afraid to go for the jugular.

Bare bones.

I don't think it is a case of goals for goal difference sake come the end of the season at this stage, I think it is more a case of needing more goals in individual matches to help prevent a 1-0 lead going into the 90th minute turning in to a 1-1 draw because of a last minute free kick or penalty or some other mishap. Away from home taking maximum points is a bonus, a draw respectable, but at home against the lesser sides, even those whose sole intention is to park the bus and try and ride out for a draw we have to find a way to break them down and stick a few more away.

I don't think we're a particularly exciting team to watch at the moment, i also don't think switching to 4-4-2 is going to change that. Redknapp would play that if he though Johnson could go more than 3 games without his body giving up on him. His injury record though means we have to nurse him through games and find a way to play without him which we have done.

As it is we are doing enough every week without being entertaining, you can't have it all. I've seen far more entertaining QPR sides struggle to stay up so I'm not going to complain at the moment. The key to more goals for me would be to get an early second goal, if we do that I think we'll hammer someone as we don't do that once we get to the hour mark it's all about running down the clock

As stated by some already, this isn't all about getting points on the board, it's the manner in which it's done. Yes we have one more point than at tha same point in 10/11 but i know which team i'd rather watch.

Can't see us taking Forest apart on boxing day the way we did Swansea that season. The fact that football has become a results based business has almost totally destroyed watching football as a form of entertainment

and that's why stats are often extremely misleading. Sorry, but second half was poor and almost totally uninspiring against an awful football team.

Hmmmm some are, but 21 shots, 7 on target is pretty much what it says on the tin!

Clean sheet, comfortable win , more of the ball, much more, than the opposition and 7 shots on target are not going to make the manger change tactics.

I still maintain its not the system but the way certain players are playing it.

O'Neill should have pushed on more in 2nd half to fill the JJ role I thought.

His default action was to run inside and backwards, it was driving me mad on Saturday - but that's the player not the "system" or the manager.

Keep averaging more than 2 pts per game we WILL go up - end of argument really.
