When I first started going, we had the likes of Chris Pearce and Graeme Crawford playing, but Conroy's signing was a sign of intent (relative to 1983) as he came from a big club in Sheffield United, where he had made over 100 appearances. It was such a shame he played behind a leaky defence that spoiled his stats somewhat. However, he had a cracking right hook, as that Crewe fan found out when he tried to nick Steve's gloves from the back of his net at half-time in our 83/84 FA Cup meeting. |  |
