Another excellent listen again fellas, thanks for your efforts. Regarding the discussion in respect of Ryan East, i disagree with the idea of breaking up a tried and trusted partnership in midfield to try to fix a problem in the number 10 position. To my mind you are weakening a vital component of your team by doing that, your midfield. If Petit was a better option than East in that midfield position then by now he would have shown enough in training and Trophy/ National Cup games to have forced his way into the starting eleven. That's not a slur on Petit because he looks neat and tidy when i've watched him. I'm not a big fan of changing something that works well to accomodate a problem elsewhere on the pitch.
There seems to be a clamour from some to shoehorn Petit into the team, East and Gilmour have been excellent this season in their preferred positions, it's the wrong time of the season to be experimenting i think.I do agree though, the number 10 position is a issue. The centre of defence is also a position that i'm worried about over the next five weeks, i don't think the cover for EEL is of the required standard, especially against the better teams in the league. I see a squad that is a bit unbalanced, we saw the same last season when McNulty over recruited in certain areas of the pitch, utility players down the left hand side, none of them of the required standard really. Pettit came in at Tamworth and played excellently, probably man of the match, then was left out again. With the sheer volume of games we’ll have to make changes to ensure we don’t lose people to injury.
I trust the management team and other staff to make those decisions based on the info they have available through all the sports science stuff they use these days. There may be the odd game Hogan plays at CH too, and while I’d prefer to have recruited there, he’s done ok when he’s come in previously. Of course, it’s a shift from the end of last season when there was an argument it was wrong EEL took his place!
Not sure about playing East as one of the 10s, have long wanted us to try him, Gilmour and Pettit in a midfield three with two up front. But can see the merits of his consistency in the current formation. In fact he’s often utilised wider anyway mid-game, as he shifts to the right. He did that at Solihull too. It was a good discussion on the podcast around that, the points about all the 10s being on a similar level without standing out is valid. Would hope Barlow can reproduce his form at the back end of last season to solve the problem.
Suppose it’s just about having that total trust the whole squad and staff look to have in each other, fans will always rightly debate what could be better and sometimes we’ll probably be right! In the main though, those who are making the choices are getting it right.

The number 10 position is probably our weakest area in the team. Lots of options but nobody seems to nail down the second position alongside Rodney. I thought Barlow would have pushed on after his strong finish to last season. I'm not sure its a role that suits East. Him and Gilmour have a good partnership so why break it up to solve a problem elsewhere? |  | | |

Just listened. A belter of an episode, one of my faves. I like the infrequency too, always a nice surprise when a new one drops.
Love a bit of existential chat about what it means to be a Daley and have Rochdale in our blood. Backing ourselves and glass half full vs humility and self deprecation. Feels there's a bit more going on at the mo' than just a football team playing well, and for me it's a welcome challenge to my subconscious!
Also fab to hear the KG love-in. Right back (if we can call him that) is the one position that's not completely locked in with my all time Dale XI and Gordon's fast making a case for usurping Raff in that #2 shirt. | | | |
