Common people: The interconnectivity of current ownership issues within the EFL 22:12 - Feb 11 with 3406 views | RAFCBLUE | I find it very coincidental timing that the failed hostile takeover at Rochdale has seen some other relatively obvious connectivity between the same people and the same parties which possibly needs some profile and some investigation in ownership issues which have caused legacy financial issues at other EFL clubs. Here goes: (1) On 13th April 2021, Andy Curran was seen at Rochdale for the game vs Swindon Town by fans protesting against the club. Andy Curran's son Taylor Curran played for Swindon Town. (2) Andrew Curran was involved with Lee Power at Swindon Town during that season. The involvement of Lee Power with Swindon Town is well documented. (3) On 29th April 2021 Fat Pat of the Wilbutts Lane Chippy saw Andrew Curran, Alexander Jarvis and Matthew Southall meet David Bottomley. One of the party refused to eat one of Pat's greasy chip barms. (4) The EFL saw Swindon Town transferred from Lee Power to Clem Morfuni in July 2021: https://www.efl.com/news/2021/july/efl-statement-swindon-town/ https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jul/20/swindon-town-takeover-under-way (5) On 6th July 2021, Rochdale had a visit from Andrew Curran and Alexander Jarvis. A hostile takeover was underway. Both come to meet the Dale Trust https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2021/07/trust-statement-andy-curran-and-darrell-rose (6) On 21st August 2021, the EFL made an announcement against an entity called Morton House and the deal, according to Morton House was off. The EFL noted that they would divest their shares at the earliest opportunity. https://www.efl.com/news/2021/august/efl-statement-rochdale-afc2/ (7) On 29th September 2021, the Manchester Evening News noted that Former Charlton Athletic chairman Matthew Southall has struck a deal to buy a 25 per cent stake in League Two football club Rochdale AFC. Mr Southall is acquiring his shares from Andy Curran and Darrel Rose's Morton House MGT group, whose bid to take over the club collapsed several weeks ago. https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/ex-charlton (8) On 1st October 2021, Matthew Southall held a meeting with the Dale Trust https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2021/10/10010/ In this meeting Matthew Southall announced that he had been approached about a deal that had "gone wrong" by Alexander Jarvis. (9) In November 2021, Laurence Bassini was linked with a shock takeover of Birmingham City. That takeover did not materialise. Bassini's previous football involvement was with Charlton in the same time window as Matthew Southall. https://the72.co.uk/255302/former-watford-chairman-laurence-bassini-linked-with- (10) In January 2022, Morton House filed High Court papers against the Rochdale Supporters Trust and a number of unpaid volunteer directors of Rochdale AFC. A campaign to raise £130,000 is underway to pay for the High Court costs. https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/keep-rochdale-afc-fan-owned/ (11) In February 2022, Bassini threatened Charlton Athletic with a statutory demand under the Insolvency Act, giving it 21 days to satisfy a debt. You might read all that and be thinking so what? As Lloyd Grossman says - lets look at the evidence. Matthew Southall connected to Laurence Bassini via Charlton https://thecharltondossier.com/ Matthew Southall connected to Alexender Jarvis via Charlton https://thecharltondossier.com/ Matthew Southall connected to Andrew Curran on 29th April 2021 Andrew Curran connected to Alexander Jarvis on 6th July 2021 There are lots of other names but isn't it interesting that these ones link ownership at Charlton, Swindon Town and now Rochdale. That never happened either. The guy should have had a lifetime ban for any involvement regarding a football at any level....

So this is starting to look like some sort of conspiracy against the EFL and its clubs. A bunch of failed "business men" with a now proven modus operandi, designed to take over stuggling clubs and then milk them in defiance of EFL rules and regulations and using threats of legal action to get their own way. This is not about football it is simply an asset stripping exercise. The EFL must either stamp this out with a very heavy boot or admit it is impotent to stop it and let the clubs form their own governing body to provide a united front. Unfortunately I dont see the EFL ever doing enough and we may end up putting our faith in politicians, God help us!...

I doubt it is that sophisticated... buy a controlling interest, saddle the football club with personal debts, switch money to other businesses via phoney invoices, buy vehicles from a mate's brother, mortgage or remortgage the ground and any other facilities to a dodgy loan company, sell players and replace them with kids or amateurs, pay yourself the "profits" for doing such a wonderful job. Eventually close the business and sell off whats left. Walk away and do it again somewhere elsewith someone else taking the lead, so Bassini then Southall, who next? Morton House who just happened to have the cash to buy the shares?

I wouldn't say "conspiracy" against the EFL 49th. Remember that the EFL sign off on every change of owner under their rules. They have the powers to block this if they want. So Southall buying at Charlton in December 2019 was signed off by the EFL, Sandgaard buying at Charlton in September 2020 from Southall and Nimer was signed off by the EFL. The EFL preside over 10 months of utter chaos and Charlton left in a worse state after Southall's involvement. The EFL let Southall in there, no one else. The EFL signed off on Lee Power buying Swindon Town in 2013. The EFL signed off on Clem Morfuni buying Swindon from Power in 2021. The EFL preside over years of chaos. The EFL let Power in there, no one else. The EFL signed off on Steve Dale buying Bury for £1 in December 2018. The EFL expelled Bury from the league in August 2019. The EFL presided over 9 months of chaos. the EFL let Steve Dale in there, no one else. Even an under-5 can see the pattern forming here. Either: (a) the EFL are being duped on every occasion. Those who do not have the best interests of football at heart are credible and the EFL does not have the skills not to be conned. (b) the EFL as a regulator is not fit for purpose as a regulator and thus should be replaced. Now look at our circumstances: April 2021: Curran (ex-Swindon), Southall (ex-Charlton), Jarvis and Bottomley all seen at Spotland. One of those (Curran) is actively linked to a another League 1 club at that point (Swindon Town where his son is a player) and the other has been done in July 2020 for unlawful corporate behaviour relating to an EFL member club as shown on these links: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53449265 https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11684/12030840/charlton-ownership-crisis July 2021: (1) A failed hostile takeover by Morton House (2) A actual meeting with the EFL present where Curran makes a homophobic remark - proven in an FA misconduct process. August 2021: EFL commence disciplinary proceedings which Morton House stick two fingers up to, making multiple changes to their shareholders and corporate directors AFTER the EFL start their investigations as demonstrated here: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/03779852 January 2022: Morton House launch High Court bid against the Supporter Trust of an EFL member club. The only people who could have signed off on the High Court pursuit of the Supporters Club is Faical Safouane (Owner and Statutory Director of Morton House) or Denise Courtnell (Statutory Director of Morton House) We are the next on the line of the EFL not being able to regulate effectively and make the right decisions from the evidence that is clearly there to be linked. That's not about making popular decisions either by the way but actively making a decision. They have had since August 2021 on this - 8 months - not an insubstantial time period to gather evidence, conduct interview and form initial conclusions. No one ha been able to find 78 year old Denise Courtnell in the last 8 months so what chance to the EFL have! As a fan of the game in general it appears they are being taken for mugs by those who do not have the game's best interests at heart. [Post edited 12 Feb 2022 18:48]

My " conspiracy" comment was deliberate as they are clearly conspiring to take advantage of the the EFL's apparent lack of determination to apply its own rules to people who clearly have no respect for the institution or its member clubs. I see Southall, Bassini, Curran, Power, Jarvis et al as a revolving team taking it in turns to attempt to buy their way into clubs and then asset strip them to their mutual benfit. I wouldnt be surprised to see links to Day and Dale too eventually. I concur that the EFL has been a common denominator in the demise of of at least one club and the despoilation of several others over the years.

I propose to submit this to the Oxford English Dictionary as a new word, as its becoming, sadly, all too common. Smugtvvatteryface. A word to describe the facial expression of a person who uses a football club improperly for their own financial enrichment.
