Why mention you were at a funeral....why not simply say you could not make the game..?
With the regular commentary team, your own commentary actually sounds like someone commentating on a football match, talking through what is happening on the pitch giving the listener a reasonable idea of how the game is progressing. I think you do quite well.
As for Stuart Ashworth, his commentary is little better than his performance managing the club shop/media/special projects (I forget what the current title is...there have been so many!) The commentary descends from enthusiastic amateurism to bitter ranting at the referee, linesman, whoever else is within the firing line!
