Agree with the bit part players comment. Portsmouth bought 21 year old Segecic, an attacking midfielder, from Sydney FC last summer and he has scored 5 goals in 20 appearances.

Watford signed Irankunda (19) , a winger. from Bayern Munich, he previously was at Adelaide and he has 2 goals in 22 appearances. He has strength and pace from what I have seen of him.

So whilst the A League is not a high standard there are some players that are capable of performing well at this level. Time will tell if any of those at QPR will prove worth the time.

So far I haven't seen much to convince me that QPR have got the right ones, but maybe if they go out on loan to teams in L1 or L2 for 3-6 months to play against adults rather than kids, they will be better next season.

Well hopefully the team will actually put in a performance instead of some more of the recent rubbish they served up.

Three-game weeks

He is conditioning the squad to be fully fit for the final leg if the season i.e. After the Easter weekend. That's 4 games when they will be facing Bristol City Millwall Derby and finally Ipswich.

Here's hoping QPR do not desperately need the points from these games, because we have a deal with Bristol City, that the games should end in away wins! Usually crap at Millwall. Derby could go either way and Ipswich will probably need the points for a promotion place.

P.s. Saturday's loss has drained my confidence, a bit like Mane's stoppage time winner for Southampton in Ramsay's 1st match in charge after Redknapp resigned.

He was a free transfer signing and scored 8 in 29 appearances in his only full season with QPR. His 1st half of season he joined in January having not played any football since the end of the previous one. And he missed all of pre season training thus time around and clearly did not look fit.

He always put in the effort and did not hide. He certainly let opposition defenders know he was playing and they wouldn't bully him.

As for his off field behaviour , it sounds like he was dedicating a lot of his free time to helping out in the community.

Also, if QPR received anything like £500k , he certainly wasn't a poor signing.

Yes, he should have claimed that ball and as you said, if he had been awarded a free kick for any contact, the time used up to take that free kick would probably seen the final whistle blown.

An excellent report Clive.

That last 4 minutes was like something that the Sky dream team writers would probably have written and then said was too unbelievable.

As for the McLaren season theory, I have taken a look at the remaining fixtures and there are plenty of games where QPR often struggle to get the one from. Games at home to the likes of Coventry, Middlesbrough, Sheffield Utd, Bristol City, Blackburn, Derby and Swansea. Some of them nearly always end up in defeat or if lucky a draw. Then there are the away fixtures at Ipswich, Birmingham, Hull, Southampton, Leicester and London derbies at Charlton (Friday night live on Sky - usually ends in defeat) and Millwall. 14 fixtures that could end in disaster, especially with an injury depleted squad. 14 points from that lot would just about keep QPR out of the bottom 4, but a top half finish would be out of reach.

Would a newby be a booby ? Match thread

Vale faded badly in the second half and I was surprised he wasn’t subbed earlier.

As for seeing the game out, I too was surprised at the lack of know how or game management shown by the experienced players (only Dunne showed some when he had indicated to Walsh to go down to get a break so he could speak to the bench). I was expecting some keep ball possession, booting the ball out for throw ins future up the pitch or feigning head injuries etc. the latter might have worked to get Edwards on (as the Peterborough striker did against QPR a few seasons ago).

True, but a lot of clubs have similar models with a head coach and it is usually him that gets sacked for not motivating the players, selecting the right team or tactics etc to get winning results. The Sporting Director, Performance Director, Methodology Director etc usually get to keep their jobs for a few more seasons as Ferdinand did.

Four minutes of injury time

Yes, I meant when Field came on he could have used Edwards as well. And yes, guilty as charged, I didn't read all the posts in the thread before submitting my post.

Stephan did not utilise the subs well and it is ridiculous to blame losses on fatigue when not making use of 5 subs in a match.

He could have brought Edwards on for Mbenge, who was on a yellow, in the 84th minute. In other words, he wasted the chance to use 5 subs.

On the 4 minutes added time, there was a sending off and 2 Wrexham goals with the celebrations and yet the clueless ref added on just 47 seconds. It should have been another 30 seconds for each of those. It probably wouldn't have made much difference but it was typical of his bad performance imo.

OK, as i said my view of the touchline is not good, but my point about the no.12 not being booked despite a number of fouls and a talking to still stands.

The ref was very poor and awarded many soft free kicks whilst not giving to QPR. He even missed an obvious handball from Moore in the 1st half when only a few yards away with a clear view.

That really annoyed me too. How on Earth do you kick off and give the ball back to the opposition?

QPR have become almost useless at retaining possession and struggle to string 3 passes together. Can't blame it on the pitch as it us the same or worse at away games.

Stephan needs to work better with them to coach passing, set pieces and shooting.

As for the other coaching staff like Steve Bould, what do they do? Our set pieces are terrible (apart from the corner today for Cook's goal). Free kicks and throw ins look like hit and hope rather than something that is worked on.

I was saying the same thing to the fan next to me and then bang bang they scored twice because there wasn't an out ball anymore. Prior to the added time, QPR had Kolli and Kone as focal points to hit the ball to and the latter forced a corner and the former a shot that was narrowly wide.

That all changed when the 4 minutes were added. Suddenly they all sat deep with no outlet.

I will add that Wrexham know how to shoot. 3 goals , a couple of good saves from Walsh and another blocked. Why can't QPR players shoot on target?

As for the ref, he was shocking. He rarely gave QPR a free kick, couldn't wait to award them to Wrexham and how he never booked the no.12 or even the one who pushed Smyth in the 1st half when all the usual jostling at set pieces , I will never understand. Anywhere else that happens , it's a free kick and a booking.

I couldn't see along the touchline clearly from the SAR stand, but Mbengue was booked for his 1st foul yet the Wrexham no.12 had committed at least 3 fouls and constant holding and only received a talking to. Of course, he then sent Mbenge off for his reckless push which probably proved crucial in Wrexham's win.

Dembélé new boo boy?
at 14:19 21 Jan 2026

He has some ability, but that is shown very few and very far between. He loses possession and falls to the ground looking for a free kick or doesn’t try and rescue the situation. He is lazy and rarely tracks back let alone get a tackle in. His stats are also quite poor.

I know that some of the same criticism can be said of Saito or Smyth but at least they have a good work rate and make tackles or win headers.

If QPR receive an offer for Dembele I think it should be seriously considered, because Stephan doesn’t appear to be able to improve him (if anything, he is getting worse than he was under Cifuentes).

Maybe you missed some of the games where teams trounced QPR. Home games include Everton winning 4-0 and 5-1 in 1976 and 1977. Or more recently Leeds 4-0 after Peacock was sold to Newcastle. Or how about the latter’s 6-0 win in 2017, Blackburn’s 4-0 win under Ainsworth or last season Burnley’s 5-0?

Or maybe you meant the fact that both teams had contributed to the dullest of games you have ever seen that QPR participated in, in which case sorry I misinterpreted your post.

You have a good point about we’re QPR are now and that is not necessarily what most fans would have expected in August. Many were thinking 16th. Although that position is not too many points away. However this is an open league and how many fans would have thought Preston Hull and Millwall would be where they are?

I agree conditions were terrible yesterday and the squad is depleted through injuries, but 2 goalless draws and just 3 shots on target in those matches is dreadful.

It doesn’t help that the wingers are played on the wrong wings for their feet! I would understand why Smyth was on the left last night if it was to help Esqerdinha , but I doubt that is what Stephan was thinking.

The Oxford are in the bottom 2 for a reason and QPR have drawn 0-0 home and away to this lot. And that’s on top of losing both games to Norwich when they were in the bottom 3.

I can understand the fans’ frustration given how much Stephan has been able to spend on the squad.

Unfortunately I suspect QPR will have to endure 2 more disappointing performances and results at home to Wrexham and Coventry before things improve.

Dire conditions , but that is a pathetic attempt to play football from both sides.

Neither seem capable of making more than 3 passes together to a teammate. The shooting is poor, only Smyth has managed to force a save from a keeper.

Smyth should be on the right wing, but with Esquerdinha at left back he needs to stay on the left to provide defensive duties. No way would Dembele be of use defensively if they switched.

I think Stephan will need to make changes, but he will probably wait until the 60-70 minute mark to do so.

It does seem a lot, but at least he knew how to score goals, many before and since have earnt decent money without scoring anything like him.

It also explains why he was sold.

That would be good move for him to get some games in and maybe into Scotland's World Cup squad.
