Gutted.
Word of warning: teams very often follow big v wins with a damp squib. That’s the next test. Last season Cov followed their demolition of us by losing in the cup to Millwall and only drawing with oxford. |

I'm amazed Hull's transfer dealings haven't been more discussed, and instead everyone seems to have believed their guff about getting promoted without spending money.
With the sales - here's what the Beeb said in July:
'Aidon Shehu had been sold to Panathinaikos for a reported £2.5m.
The sale of the 19-year-old - signed from Southend United two years ago for a small compensation figure - is effectively pure profit for Hull's PSR calculation.
The Albania Under-21 international did not make a first-team appearance for Hull and spent the end of last season on loan at Scarborough Athletic.'
Excuse me?
So a player you signed for nothing from Southend, never played, went on loan to a Conference North side, where he made 4 sub appearances according to Soccerbase, you then managed to sell for TWO POINT FIVE MILLION POUNDS?
Can anyone guess how many times he's played for Panathanaikos?
Still, I'm sure Hull fans will sing at City and tell them how they're cheats. |

Look, Lamptey is an excellent player, there's no arguing that.
But also, if anyone, including anyone at the club, seriously thought a guy with his record not just recently but over his entire adult career was going to play anything more than 15-20 games this season then they were deluding themselves. I don't mind the signing, because those 15-20 games could hugely influence our season, but there's no point us lumping him in with other injury issues: it would be the same wherever he was. |

If any manager, first team coach or, I dunno, dev squad coach had anything like the record of consistent and total failure that Ben Williams has at this club, they would have been sacked months and months ago. This is an absolute farce. I get the extenuating circumstances. I get there are a lot of games. I get we signed players unlikely to play all season. But this is ludicrous now and has been going on for three seasons.
Get this absolute chancer out of the club. Now. There's only one reason he hasn't already gone, we all know what that is. His position is now beyond a joke. These players and the coach are working so hard, but they're being stymied by this bloke with a record at this club of either total failure or doing his job over Zoom.
Enough is enough. |

Agree totally - I'd only add: if we're hemming and hawing about the likes of Eze, Chair, Dieng etc for not quite being academy grads as we got them from elsewhere (true but they weren't championship ready when we signed them were they?) then surely we must also acknowledge that Sterling, Harvey Elliott (I can't remember those 4 or 5 others) etc etc were part of that mix? don't think we can have it both ways. |

Agree with the last line to an extent. But the problem is you have to do stuff people will notice. Gradually improving trains over 20 years: no one will remember who did that (no one really remembers that it was Ken who completely changed the underground and made it work again. People think it's bad now (and it isn't, not really): yeah, try it in the late 90s lads).
Starmer's work on small boats has gone completely unnoticed and totally ignored: numbers are way, way down thanks to his policies and work. But you'd never know it because he was 'boring' and Farage has to find the one thing that will distract people from all his financial shenanigans.
I'm afraid Burnham is absolutely right to find some happy quick wins (although I';m in agreement with you totally: context on when it's allowed is everything - I'm not sure there's even room to bend my arm to drink a beer in the SA Stand) that this country of dullards might actually notice, while he tries to tackle stuff that can't be fixed in a few weeks by deploying the armed forces or whatever it is people think will work. |

They've managed to cut so much time-wasting out of the game in this (sadly corrupt) tournament, but the pens they need to sort. From the moment the penalty is given, the clock starts. If defenders are not out the box and the keeper not on his line in 30 seconds from the whistle blowing, quite simply, a goal is given. |

No longer post on here, but I do loiter. Have to post on this though.
An absolutely fantastic football person and human being. I doubt you'd ever hear a bad word about Ken from anyone. What awful, terrible news at such a young age. Was an absolutely crucial part of our renaissance through the darkest of times and probably should, at some point, have been our manager. Am sure he was close once or twice. One of the really good ones.

Absolutely expected us to be higher than bottom three, but I disagree with views on our form. I think we have played very well in parts of games, and have achieved some very creditable results, played well twice against Luton and showed a lot of guts in other games like Sheff U, and were very unfortunate v Plymouth. Until a week ago, we'd only lost once and were about where i expected us to be.
My expectations are certainly to be comfortable in mid table, but I didn't expect more than that, because we almost got relegated last season, lost a key player who helped turn our season (Hayden) and, whatever you think of him, lost Willock too, who was a regular starter. Les was much derided but he was very honest about signings - for any club, the ratio of 'success' (as in, immediate, effective, first team regulars) is not high. So I was prepared for some of our signings to not work out.
I'm not massively worried about where we are now. We have a good manager, he's proved that, and he'll turn it around. but if you think getting rid of a goalie and a few players who barely played for us anyway and a few signings are going to make us into promotion challengers, yes, in my view, that's a tad unrealistic.
And I'm not sure where I blamed fans expectations for anything - that's ridiculous. But fans will get more upset about bad results if their expectations are higher than the reality. Last season we all knew we had a poor side, and actually the fans were very supportive and forgiving. This year, essentially, a 4-0 win v Leeds has raised the expectations of some fans to a silly level. That doesn't mean we shouldn't demand better, but if you spend this season believing this squad is anywhere close to being promotion challengers beyond a sort of streaky crack at 6th, you're going to be very angry all season.
Your note about a whole pre-season is a great case in point. On day one of this season, we had a team that did not include Saito, Madsen and Dembele. So, in terms of what we'd call our first eleven, a third of them weren't even at the club during that period. |

yeah, but i think almost every team in the league has 'play-off form' at some point in the season. You look at our last 6 games of the season and if you discount the dead rubber against a shot Cov side, we only really played well v Leeds.
Expectation is a huge issue. I was disappointed with the boos on Tue. Who were they booing? I get the last 20 mins were disappointing, and mistakes were made all round, but not one player out there, in my opinion, was coasting.
As usual, when things are really bad we get people saying 'i just want players who care' - but that's such fan bullsh!t. 'All' some fans want is to win every week. And don't say I'm exaggerating: every defeat we have is treated like the end of the world by a lot of fans. |

Yeah annoying to have 'big moments' so early in the season. It's a shame, because post Luton things looked so positive. I guess at least shows how quickly things can turn around though (Hull also an example of that).
Such a weird game. I thought 1-0 was really unfortunate, 2-0 not in any way a fair reflection, and then by the end of the game 3-1 was the least Hull deserved. All in one game. We were both battered and there were also signs of hope - particularly Saito.
Why wasn't their full back booked for that handball for the pen by the way? It's Millwall 1995 levels of inexplicable on the replay. |
