I went yesterday. Wasn't identifiable as an R I don't think, so that's one more.
Lovely weather, good facilities - nice pint of John Smiths.
Thought Southall played some good stuff in the second half and deserved the replay - don't see their LB (no. 12) being there very long. [Post edited 21 Sep 9:55]

Possibly a dark yellow, but going in like that I thought he left himself open to the red. Not a great bit of control in the first place and then he made it worse.
I've watched it back only a couple of times and it's still not obvious to me, so again you don't want to be giving referees a decision to have to make in that sort of situation. |

First point I did wonder. They're beside each other on the spreadsheet, that's the only explanation.
Second point, JCS is made of glass and must be handled with care - and they'd already announced that the medical team is smashing it so hard Jimmy is already fit. Possible combination of him pushing, it not being a risky injury, but him not being fully fit anyway.
Scarlett had probably our 2 most dangerous moments of that first half I thought. Was the right call to replace him at half time. |

I think that's all very fair. I'll have to see the replay of the header - looked unlucky from where I was but fair enough.
But as said, very good point-blank save very soon after, and from what looked like a good turn. Not unusual for players even at the highest level to miss any easy one and score a more difficult one.
I just don't see him as the weak link this afternoon on the strength of that appearance. |

Disappointed with only a point, yet very happy with a point.
I wonder if they made a rod for their own back making a thing on Wednesday of Jimmy being fully fit? Didn't quite look it.
Kamara must have had a few questionable side glances in the dressing room at half time. Much better second half, but credit also to JS using him to squeeze the play as he should have been rather than poncing around doing not much quite badly.
Great character to come back - in previous years we would've been the Preston, dropping 2 points rather than nearly picking up 3 at the death from a (fcuking finally) decent direct free kick.
Poku looking fitter and continuing to grow was the main individual plus for me - very encouraging. |

Not a bad listen. The floor questions seemed a bit quiet but league position always helps.
That point Jimmy made about how the group of young players that come to train with the First team these days no longer slow them down like they used to - I hope Warbs didn't spray his lapsang souchang everywhere.
Also I think Nourry is probably blagging less than he would have in the early days - he's been learning on the job, knows more than he ever did, not at logger heads with the manager (for now). Add that to the pretty low key nature of the questions, the acknowledged improvements we've been making - I can see why he came across pretty well. How that would look in a different league position, with different questions is another matter but fair enough. |

My theory on this is the club wanted to keep him, and the negotiations around that happened fairly early in the summer. There was a Nourry interview where he talked about player recruitment that, I thought, sounded like they weren't about to embark on a new manager search.
Part of that process has involved a 'deep dive' into the availability of players last season. Julien was more and more open about that towards the end of the season, and at the end of that deep dive there's been an agreement for all parties to get on the 'same page' - i.e. JS will buy into all the loading stuff and generally err on the side of caution to try to help manage player's fitness, with particular emphasis on potential assets like Lamptey. In return I think Williams committed to getting the squad much fitter than it was at the start of last season.
All of which has Julie feeling a bit more comfortable if anything. It's a theory anyway. |

I hadn't realised for quite a while that neither Poku nor Koki were on the bench.
So from players not long term injured that was Kone, Chair, Poku and Koki unavailable - one or two of those would have been options to try to get something happening in that situation.
Definitely things to learn in terms of execution, and hopefully that will come, but... |
