Chaotic team selection, chaotic outcome as R's slip at West Brom - Report
at 12:26 31 Dec 2025

Agree with everything here. I get JS has to rotate in this fixture pile-up. But I'd love to see a journalist ask our gaffer in the post-match presser, what the thinking was behind playing Field in that position. He might have had some cunning innovative plan that would have been worth hearing. But he never gets asked about his baffling team selections. Of course, that Tyler kid can't really do it on behalf of the club website. But there must be a clued-in journo who could ask about that and the non-use of Smyth. Maddeningly frustrating not to hear his thinking. Get yourself a press pass, Clive, sneak in at the back and keep asking. It'd be more entertaining than any of our away performances

Fearsomely in-form Boro too hot for QPR to handle – Report
at 13:55 15 Dec 2025

Not sure why Poku wasn't given a game or at least brought on second half. He looked very lively when he came on against Birmingham and was instrumental in setting up Morgan's winner. If he's fit enough for the bench, he has to get a run-out given how lethargic the rest of them looked.
Strange.

Is it Hamer time?
at 12:38 27 Oct 2025

It was Walsh who hesitated for the Preston goal so that can't be pinned on Nardi.
But Nardi was responsible for both goals at Plymouth - despite making two great saves and a penalty save in that match. That's him in a nutshell. Terrific shot stopper, great at one-on-ones but lousy when the ball's in the air.
The Derby goal was his fault entirely. The ball was lobbed slowly into the six yard box meaning he had ages to track it. Every goalkeeper in the league comes for that and at least punches it clear if not gathers it. I loved him last year but he's become a liability and has got to be moved on in January.

Nourry interview
at 10:24 26 Jul 2025

Disappointing interview. Nourry rarely gives interviews so for the interviewer to cut it short by saying he's got a train to catch, when Nourry said he was happy to carry on and debate, is just ridiculous. Never heard a journalist do that before.
And asking Nourry what's gone well is just an invitation for him to give a puff PR answer. Can't help feeling Clive would have asked more pertinent questions and pinned him down

London clubs and us
at 10:42 19 May 2025

Have to say I agree with the post. Usually I'm always rooting for the underdog and of course it's great to see City finish with nowt and for Eze to score the winner. But I've always taken comfort in that Palace had won naff all in their history. It irks me that they've put that to rights and drawn level with us.
That said, you'd have to be a soulless piece of work not to enjoy their fans' post-match celebrations. Seeing how much it meant to people of all ages really brought home what football's all about. We can only dream that one day it'll be us. Conclusive proof that's there never any excuse for mugging off a cup tie.

Sunderland Match Thread

New Gardening Leave-themed Marti song for those at Sunderland:

Marti Cifuentes,
Marti Cifuentes,
He plants wild heather
His flowers are yella
He hates f***ing Chelsea Flower Show

Sing it loud. Sing it proud

Marti on today's defeat
at 16:18 22 Apr 2025

I like Marti - mostly for what he did last year. But he gets a too easy ride in post-match interviews. I'd have liked someone to ask him about the folly of playing Madsen and Anderson in midfield - when we've seen that combination of sloth-like pace and muscle fail several times before. And why start Madsen out wide when he'd improved massively in the middle in the last couple of games (and set up our goal in this game with a superb ball when moved back into the middle)?
Also, why wait until 5 minutes into the second half to make changes and not do it at half time after such a wretched first 45 minutes? Still can't get my head around that. He never gets pressed by a reporter with any gumption and gets away with too many platitudes

Thought he was decently average - which is a huge improvement for him, making it his best performance for us by a mile. He even caught one of their players with a stray elbow in an aerial duel. Had to rub my eyes to check it really was him
