Labi Siffre is a west London boy, Brian, born in Hammersmith and went to school at St Benedict’s school in Ealing. Good guitarist. Another song of his I quite like is Cannock Chase.
Also wrote ‘It must be Love’, made famous by Madness of course and the much covered ‘Something inside so Strong’. Here he is talking in 1972.
Alas I think Northend AFC are no more but I think there is a North End FC playing in Glasgow.
Isle of Arran based Northend Thistle FC another one that maybe no more? Once labelled Britain's worst team after going 19 years without a victory. When they did finally win a match their players reportedly went on a week long p!ss up to celebrate. They played in the same colours as Barcelona and their ground the ‘Ewe Camp’ was listed as one of ‘British football’s greatest grounds’ in 2020.
Well there’s the famous ‘Dokers’ of Dundee whose home ground is North End Park.
Apparently their ‘walkout’ music before each match is the Joker by Steve Miller Band but adapting the lyrics to say “I’m a doker, I’m a smoker and I’m a midnight toker”.
Another for the OUT list I’d have thought is Elijah Dixon-Bonner. He doesn’t look like a happy Bonner and 3 appearances this season in this team is a big disappointment. I’m not sure about his contract situation apart from that he extended in the summer.
‘Into the Storm: Surfing to Survive’ is an inspiring documentary about a young surfer from a poor neighbourhood in Peru trying to make it as a pro.
‘Challengers’ is a love triangle romp spread over the careers of 3 players on the US tennis circuit. The tennis scenes are really well done and I enjoyed it quite a bit more than I thought I would is all I’m going to say
The Pump House is a pretty good if basic pub about 15 mins walk from the ground. Nice location on the waterfront and usually quite a few Rangers stop there. Says it opens 11.30am on their website so have to be quick.
I hate to say it but I think the team that ended the game on Saturday would struggle in the national league let alone finish top half of the Championship.
It looks like Dunne almost takes a gamble and allows Sainz to go as he knows he'd be able to get back and cover. A bit of a risk but it worked out. Our third goal is scored in very similar circumstances except their defender doesn't get back or at least doesn't make a tackle.
