Wasn’t able to go on Saturday so managed to watch a stream which unfortunately had the Preston commentator. When you look at the pre-match videos that Tyler does, the preparation he goes into about both teams and then compare against the idiot that I had to listen to. He couldn’t even check whether it was Varane starting (the big no.40 on the back gives a clue), when Scarlett got booked he said it was Mbengue and was still using Mbengue’s name even after he had been substituted. He really didn’t have a clue about us whatsoever. You can see that young Tyler is going to have a huge future commentating in the game. The dedication he puts in to this role is amazing. Good luck to him.
Bit of luck the spending that North Battersea have once again wasted on mercenaries will finally come back and see them sink and return to their rightful place before the Russian war criminal laundered his dirty money with them. The team hasn’t got any bottle and with a fair wind last week Hull could have stuck five past them. 13 goals conceded in five league games. They really are shìt.
Two other things not mentioned. The strain on the pocket of the average supporter. Usually West Brom would have been close on a sell out especially given the league position of both teams but with Charlton a few days before and 3,000 supporters attending people are watching their pockets more.
And secondly, given the greater demands on players and squads with injuries mounting up right across the league what the hell does the EFL think in introducing a 25 player limit for clubs??? Surely this means that more players are more likely to be called up whilst carrying injuries. A 30 man squad would make more sense and if there are to be three game weeks then given that their are nine across the season one a month at a maximum makes more sense and a limit of six matches a month for clubs. Surely it’s not that difficult to work out?
Wrexham have been absolutely pony tonight. They’ve spent a shedload on average players like Paterson, Whiteman etc. hopefully it will all go nipples north with a few more thumping.
They massively overspent the same season we both went up. The only difference was that they survived whilst we got relegated and back into the arms of the waiting FL who hit us with a £20million fine. It’s finally caught up with them whilst we have taken a decade to recover. Karma
Looked back at the match on March between us and them at HQ and despite the obvious difference in the score line there was also some other major differences:
- six of our starting line up played against them whilst Boro had eight new faces, who cost between them around £million. Our ‘new recruits’, who started yesterday, which included Chair and Poku cost nothing. - they had 53% of possession. Yeah we know about the possession stats but at half time we were much lower on possession and trailing and it goes to show the total dominance we had in the second half bar a couple of breakaways, Middlesbrough just didn’t look like scoring and resorted to the kind of shîthousery we thought was being eliminated from the game unless you get a ref like Madley. - We had six shots all game, four on target to their 13 with 6 on target. Our total number of shots exceeded theirs yesterday. - and of course the score line. I feel that had Vale’s shot gone in, any curling shot that hits the inside of a post should go only one way, and it wasn’t the direction it went, we would have gone on to win.
So all in all, any defeat is disappointing but I felt that the first half the team knew that this was their first big test and stood back a bit too much giving Boro too much respect. Second half I think they very much proved to themselves that they are more than a match for one of the top sides in this division and that was without bringing Lamptey, Madsen and Camara on. Now the proof is to continue to prove how good they are and start putting other teams to the sword that I think this lot are more than capable of.
And for me, the big difference was that I left yesterday very encouraged, disappointed that we didn’t get what we deserved, but none the less very encouraged. Last season…………
Sometimes a player tries too hard when he is trying to establish him within a squad/team. Can happen with all great sportsmen too. Kevin Pietersen for example in his first test series, the Ashes one of 2005 he dropped numerous chances and it was put down to his over keenness to make his mark. Lloyd is now showing all the attributes of a potentially very good striker be it first or second choice. He has the right attitude without doubt and he does have a decent ability to control the ball. Their keeper made one great save off him last night, a chance he created himself and with a little bit more streetwise within him he would have gone down for a penalty in the first half but instead stayed on his feet to try and get a shot away. The more exposure to this league he gets the better he will become.
Stoke also spent well in excess of the figures quoted. The bloke that they got from Swansea and also Hirst from Ipswich combined was in excess of £17million. But the reality is that the total spend in the PL is obscene and was more than the German, French and Spanish leagues combined and yet from what I have seen so far this season the standard is average. Teams abroad continually produce young talent which the top English teams spend obscene amounts on to the detriment of the talent in their own youth systems. Effectively the PL is funding French, Portuguese and Spanish football, countries where the TV revenue is much smaller but they don’t need to worry too much as they probably end up getting most of the Sky money anyway through their sales to England.
It amazes me with some of the posts on here. The squad we have now I reckon is as good as we have had since we got relegated last in terms of both ability and age. We are more than fine in defence with each position covered, we are more than fine in midfield with each position covered and amply catered for up front. When I saw the team sheet on Saturday I thought that was a strong side and then I saw the bench and thought wow! Compare this to just two to three years ago. We have goals right across the team and the way Charles plays I wouldn’t be surprised if he chipped in with a couple, literally. We will get injuries, guaranteed, every team gets injuries, but now we have real depth. Well done everyone involved with the signings they have added ability, good ages (even Kamara), and value. About time for other clubs to worry about us now.
£50million for Delap is a joke. North Battersea bought him for £30million last season, he did 7/8th of fùck all for them and they make a 20million profit!
Looking at the BBC sports website this morning and the potential moves that might be happening today and the values for players I’ve never heard of is obscene. FFP or whatever it is now is a complete joke. Scrap the whole thing and let the big teams spend themselves into oblivion. It is so refreshing when reading that we are the lowest spending club (ok along with the financial mess that is SheffU), and yet we have put together a really decent squad for this season. Ok, we may have taken risks with Lamptey and Cirkin but on the evidence so far they look like risks worth taking.
I think the French are like the Spanish, they don’t do away matches. Once saw Almeria play Real Madrid. Not even a sell out in a 20,000 seat stadium. Not a Madrid supporter in sight
