Early 1974/5, Blackpool at home, as a 7 year old my Dad took me to my first game and to a spot that became my own for a couple of seasons. The East Stand, right at the Milton End. There was a little raised area that could take about 30 people. I used to stand at the front of that from about 1.30pm - and could look over towards the little snack kiosk on the right, where the old man and his Docker mates would stand, passing round a bottle of whisky or rum. As the ground filled up I was always entertained by the Archers Road filling up and if there were many away fans, watching a single line of plod trying to keep the away fans segregated! Loved Micky Channons. windmill. Not missed may at home since them days. And we didn't lose at home very often back then!
I was at that enjoyable one in 1979, but more clearly remember the 2 home games with them in the early 80's. Both with 10 goals - a 5-5 draw and a 8-2 win, in think in consecutive seasons ?
So for the Pompey game - will this couple of hundred corporate ticket holders be at SMS early with the rest of us and allocated a bus and handed over their tickets on production of appropriate ID once on board ? They better be!
I can remember as a 7 year old watching the 1974 World Cup on a black and white TV ! So disappointed that the Dutch lost the final as they had such good players. There again the West German team with Beckenbauer and Gerd Muller were pretty good ! Due to England not qualifying my first memories of us at the WC was 1982 where we didn't lose but were still knocked out. I've always prioritised watching Saints over England. Haven't been to one yet, but have booked flights and tickets for next year. Not sure I can afford more than 1 or 2 games though !
