The Barry Bannan Master Class Match Thread
at 14:24 4 Jan 2026

For a young player, I think to have many minutes on the pitch is crucial for his development, as nothing beats being in the game to learn, and if it is not his natural position, one can assume that the coach thinks he could play there because of his talent and ability

To play in his favourite position, a young player needs to be the “best player” in the club for that position, I think we could say that of Morgan, or any of our young players including Kolli, that at this point in time they are not the best player for their position. If so, it would be quite unusual why the coach does not play his best players.

Protecting the players for the upcoming cup game against West Ham, our biggest game of the year (albeit still a very young year)?

Opposition players you always rated
at 10:40 4 Jan 2026

Not any particular player but,

- their goalkeeper, always up against us playing a blinder

- any former QPR player that potentially will score against us

- any player that hasn’t score in his career, any striker hasn’t score for a while that you bet will be breaking their duck against a charity team

This is QPR, we lose 6-1 to Blackpool and win 1-0 at Burnley, lose to Swindon Town x 2, so

….Sheffield Wednesday - negative points, good as relegated, Bannan running the show….

QPR 5 Sheffield Wednesday 1

I would like a clean sheet but our goalkeeper crisis I say we will let in one

Best of both worlds, is the best I reckon

Premier league academies cast offs will be sought after for second tiers clubs

But there should also be a real desire / proper set up for our academy to nurture a player from local / grassroots, one that we can really call our own, like Gallen, Furlong and maybe Kolli?

35 points after 23 games, what’s the realistic target after 46?
at 07:38 29 Dec 2025

You will logically think that we “should” do better in the latter half of the season, so expect 70 points minimum….

….. if the first half of the season’s games are for the team to gel with new coach, new tactics, new way of playing, then it is reasonable to expect the team to do better in the next 23 games

So 70 or more points is a logical target

60-70 points - the team is settled and consistent*

50-60 is underwhelming borders on worrying

Anything under 50 will be disappointing and relegation form, after what we have seen in the first 23 games of what the team is capable of

*consistency - much talked about in other threads

Emerson Sutton has played 18 games for Morecamble, and it is game 24 in the national league, surely that is not “never seem to play him”? He might also been involved in a few cup games as well in those numbers. His last game was a starting 11 albeit at right back (?) and he had started quite a few league games recently. Not sure how he’s performing though but he has chalked up quite a few appearances and not just warming the bench. Even Dixon-Bonner played 2 games fewer (16) for Morecambe.

I get that we are frustrated with the team, but think about it, if we are consistent week in week out we will be up there challenging top spot with Coventry.

We are not, so maybe that’s the answer?

No number 9
at 03:53 21 Dec 2025

No player wears the number 9 jersey this season, is this meant to be Kelman’s?

It quite unusual to go into a season without a number 9 as this number and it’s role is one of the most important in the team, the main striker, the centre forward

Will we see incoming for this vacant spot?

Are we actually doing it, redeveloping LR and not announcing it to the fans?

How many subs should be allowed?
at 20:25 19 Nov 2025

You really want it? You wait! It’s coming

Not long then we have basketball type rotational substitution with a squad of 25-30 players where players freely rotate in and out. A game can end with entire different 11 and then some

You know it will eventually come to this

Kone - too slow to go?
at 10:18 7 Oct 2025

He may be slow but he has fantastic positional play and shooting accuracy that may see him thrive in the PL.

If he scored 20 goals for us I can see he will be gone to the PL in a whiff. Surely?

Kone v Kelman
at 08:29 7 Oct 2025

It is easy to slate our former player but I note reports that Charlton system does not suit his style

I am wondering if Kelman extended here would we extend Frey?

Not sure if a strike force of Kone, Burrell, Kelman is something we look forward to, has to be something?

Only 5 games in and Spaceman self rested himself? How tough can it be, unbeaten in 5, and our star man retreats with exhaustion?

I’m sure Colin will do fine!

But I predict a win for the away side
