Neither were Ball. Kendall or Harvey for that matter.
Funnily enough I was in Highbury that day but not at Highbury on account that I lived in a flat close by. Along with a couple of Saints mates and 400 neanderthal Gooners we gathered in the local battle cruiser to suffer the pain and anguish.
42 years have surely numbed that....or maybe not  |

I can safely say that I could not be classified as an Everton fan.
However I did have the distinct pleasure of being at a couple of their games when Ball, Kendall and Harvey made up their midfield. They were some force, maybe amongst the best combos in the last 60 years. For that alone I give Everton a pass mark. |

Being as dim as a Toc H lamp (one for the oldies), I hadn't clocked that although a ban initially only excludes Eckert from all activities in England, the FA has the right to ask FIFA to upgrade it to a worldwide ban.
It's safe to assume the FA will do this and it's even safer to assume FIFA will comply in order to set precedent and given they are short of mates these days, stroking the FA will seem a good idea.
All that plonks Eckert totally "in der Scheisse"

We used to study the state of every game to estimate the approximate time they would be batting and time our arrival at the ground accordingly.
You would see pretty much every shot in the coaching manual played (and plenty that weren't).
Richards all cover drives, on drives and deft touches all around the wicket and invariably along the carpet.
Greenidge was all pulls, hooks and cuts. invariably airborne, and guaranteed to intimidate bowlers. Off the field he seemed a softly spoken gentle chap.
For any youngster learning the batting trade, those guys were one-stop shopping. |

Being of a certain vintage, that post transmitted me instantly back to 1961 .
I can name that team today (no google)..Marshall, Gray, Horton, Livingstone, Sainsbury, Ingleby Mac, Harrison, Cottam, Shack, White and Burden.
Mervyn Burden was the thinking man's Number 11 with a career batting average well south of 3.0.
In those days the touring team of the year played the Counties before and in between Tests.
One gloomy evening in 1963 I recall Mervyn came out to bat with Hants something like 135 for 9. Having noticed that the legendary Wes Hall was bowling Merv had put an extra pair of incontinence pads on just to be safe.
He took usual guard 12 inches outside leg stump and awaited his fate. Wes steamed in , all teeth and gold chains and unleashed a howitzer that turned all 3 stumps into firewood.
The whole ground then heard Merv utter " thanks Wes, I really appreciate that" |

I've been otherwise engaged the last 6 weeks so maybe you all know the answer anyway but..
What's the Jander story ?..at the start of the window he was one of our jewels and we were resigned to losing him to a big boy for big bucks.
During window we hear nothing..nada..zip..
At the end of window he seems to still be here drawing his pay.
Unless he is long term injured when is he going to lace up his boots and get to work. |

The EFL reports to the FA.
I have to assume the findings of the EFL will be assessed by the FA and although it looks like the FA are making the big call on any punishment, they will only have the evidence already gathered to work with. |

Thought there was a problem with the sound on my TV..but no..it was the plaintive sound of French players choking.
French full back will be remembered for the rest of his life as the man who conceded a pen by kicking a nearby Spaniard up the arse.

Apparently spent last season on loan at Ipswich from Como. Played a lot of games.
His stats say he troubled the onion bag 5 times or once every 8 games. Prolific goal scorer ?

Huxford was a fan favourite back then. Old style no bullshit hard nut. I don' recall him being captain for that long because Paine was relentlessly chirping in Bates' ear and was handed the job.
My vote for best captain is Tony Knapp. Bates paid a club record for him from Leicester and the following year made him skipper...The changing room was littered with Paine's toys flying out of the pram. Proved to be another astute move by Ted though, as Knapp was key to a good period for the club through the mid 60's . |

OK, but FIFA is incorporated in Switzerland and therefore any attempt to chase any FIFA person/entity outside Switzerland will immediately run into Jurisdiction issues and that means back we go to Swiss courts |

Actually proving any one individual in FIFA is corrupt is a very very high bar.
Blatter and Platini were acquitted not once, but twice over the £2 million paid by FIFA/Blatter to Platini covering an agreement between them (handshake ) covering the salary/bonus he had foregone due to the parlous state of FIFA finances at the time ( they seem to have turned that around )
So the fact that 99% of the free world think FIFA is corrupt means f*ck all unless you want to spend 10's of millions and many years trying to make it stick in court.
You are also in Swiss Courts in a country that is the spiritual home of financial chicanery. |
