A nightmare of a first half in so many ways, but what a 2nd half performance with ten men. So proud of how they rolled their sleeves up and dominated PNE with 10 men , thats not easy to do. Starting to love Stephan a little more with every passing week. Made some great subs today and must've delivered a fantastic team talk at HT to help them turn that around. That said, I'm annoyed we started so poorly and showed so little first half. Hopefully a one off. [Post edited 19 Sep 22:39]

Just seen the replay and im still not sure, so I dont know how people can be so convinced it was one but you run the risk if you go to ground and slide in like that in an area of the pitch where you dont need to it. It didn't seem that bad to me though. Fair enough on the yellow if saito dived but I generally thought the ref was a bit too quick to get his cards out. [Post edited 19 Sep 21:26]

I haven't seen the replay, but I was at the game today. I didn't think it was a red initially but there was a noticeable crunching noise when the players came together that I could hear from the upper loft which couldve swayed it. Really not sure if it was a red or not, but i thought the ref was fairly poor. Some of the decisions he gave both ways were weird (from my view point anyway). No idea why Saito was booked in the 2nd half, there was corner we got that seemed to touch no PNE player. The only thing i respected him for was the corner he gave us for the GK taking the piss with the goal kicks. [Post edited 19 Sep 21:09]

I had been wondering what had happened to Sutton, as he seemed to be one of the most promising players in our Dev Squad, and I thought he might get another loan this year following his spell with Harrogate last season. Leon Scarlett seems to be above him in the pecking order atm and 2 or 3 years younger, so its probably quite a big season for him. Hopefully this hat-trick will give him some confidence and boost our attacking options. [Post edited 14 Sep 8:33]

Plus points for me were we controlled the game, kept another clean sheet, Glen Kamara was brilliant and i thought Madsen was showing signs of life again which was encouraging and Mbengue made a big impact from the bench. It was also excellent we got to see yet another Nathan Jones meltdown over the disallowed goal (which probably was onside). One of the post match interviews I've seen of him just describing his feelings on it with a variety of sighs/noises and no words is pretty funny.
Negatives were obviously the injuries to Lamptey/Dunne and the sudden disappearance Poku and Saito last night. The lack of cutting edge to find the final ball to open up that very well organised Charlton defence and when we eventually did find an opening Smyth couldn't take advantage unfortunately. We also looked vulnerable on the counter, i thought Tyreece Campbell looked very dangerous and impressive throughout the game with his pace and directness. Unlucky to have his goal chalked off from the replays I saw. It was very tight though. Also yet another match where we have more possession and no win.
I don't know really what else to say about the injuries anymore. Either we need to sign players who aren't as good, but more resilient, or we need to sack Williams and try and get someone else to get more mins out of these players because its killing us every season. I have some sympathy for Stephan having to come out and answer questions on it every week when he's not really the one solely in charge of this area. He must be just as frustrated as us about it because we're playing well. It seems to be a big problem across the league though, Charlton apparently had 8 or 9 out yesterday and other clubs have full treatment rooms already and we're only 6 games in! At least we had two good replacements for Lamptey and Jimmy, but again, we're one or two injuries away from either playing people out of position or dipping into the kids again, which in fact we're now already having to do with Scarlett coming on last night. Silver lining there is at least we might not have Mr Q on as many shirts.
We really have to sort this Kolli situation out and get him in the squad again, he'd have made a bigger impact than the players who came on last night. [Post edited 10 Sep 10:06]

First on the card, so they can both make it home early and not set their curfew tags off! Bassong v Traore feels like a weight mismatch to me, but maybe Traore was bigger lad than I remember. |

I don't get all the anger either to be honest. We beat Cardiff/Blackburn/Portsmouth because they're either the same or below our level, and we lost to Boro because they're competing for automatic promotion and have a £10+ million pound striker who is scoring against every team he plays against at the moment. We got battered by this team last season and we gave them a much better game than we did last season on Saturday and we were a bit unlucky not to get a 1-1. That's progress for me, I don't like seeing us lose, but if we do then I don't mind a narrow 0-1 loss compared to us making other Championship opposition look like the 1970 Brazil team. Lets get a bit of perspective. The term 'Awful team selection' is far too strong. Plymouth away in the cup last season was in that category for me, this was no where near that. I always remember Warbs saying a lot when he was in charge, its about narrowing the gap between your best performance and your worst and so far we're doing that in my opinion. Its also about how you bounce back from a defeat so I'm more interested in seeing the reaction in midweek. [Post edited 7 Sep 11:01]

Great start to the season and we should've won 3 or 4-1 tonight at least. So good to see us creating those kind of chances on a consistent basis though, after so long watching us grinding out draws and wins by creating very little. Its actually fun to watch us again, there's a zip and purpose to our play. Although missing those chances did ironically mean we were hanging on a bit towards the end. I thought Cardiff were the perfect style for us to take advantage of tbh. Always trying for one extra pass, a bit Russell Martin like really. Our pressing destroyed them on so many occasions. I had my doubts about us signing Lamptey, I thought he might be a bit part player diminished with all the terrible injuries hes had, but that performance has really eased my concerns he had that Tanner on toast for much of the game. Brilliant performance and i hope Tanner got plenty of stick from the Stan Bowles stand following that awful challenge on him at the start of the 2nd half. Edwards Brilliant again, Burrell scoring and running his socks off up top. Theres a lot to like at the moment |

Yeah, theres probably nothing to it. It might just be an admin error. I just thought it was a bit weird that he wasn't on there at all, especially when all of the new signings (and Obikwu) are! I'm pretty sure he got a squad number. [Post edited 25 Aug 15:23]

Looks like both of these deals (Vitek and Phillips) have almost been confirmed now. Boro definitely splashing the cash this week! Must've got a decent amount of cash from the sell on clause for Morgan Rogers going to Chelsea on top of what they got for Hackney going to Everton. Just remembered they signed Will Lankshear from Spurs as well didn't they?! They really have spent some money in this window. [Post edited 6 Aug 16:28]
