I believe that you’re right that we aren’t much different in comparison to many other small or traditionally industrial towns in the North West.
In terms of changes, it starts at the top. In the current climate, starting your own business or even just taking over and running an existing one is something that many people cannot afford. Business rates and the recent VAT hike has left those with medium sized businesses in a difficult position. This is not designed to be a political assassination either as I believe that what we are seeing now results from poor governance and decision making (or neglect) stretching back a couple of decades.
The only way to properly regenerate the town centre is to get more independent businesses into these empty premises and then of course get people to utilise them. Otherwise, we will be left with more pound shops (and god knows whatever else). But how do we do that? Who knows.
You can tell a lot about an area from the quality of the shops occupying its town centre. We may not be any different to many local towns but that doesn’t detract from the point that the centre is largely a depressing place to be. And I don’t think that’s particularly over the top negativity, it just seems to be a view held by many. Hence why the majority would rather go to Bury to do their shopping (who are doing a far better job than we are) or even take a short trip to Manchester
I hate to say it but those London districts that you refer to as shitholes (and you are correct) are where I and many others I speak to see Rochdale ending up in circa 10 years (or less) unless something drastically changes and fast.
I can’t help but shed a tear when I walk up Yorkshire street and see what it has become, given that I spent so many good memories there as a child in what was a thriving metropolitan melting pot. Unfortunately, the exchange is also largely the same and we don’t even have the wheatsheaf to even bash anymore.
I will always love Rochdale but save the aforementioned physical beauty and landmarks already mentioned, the centre is gash and getting gasher

I would go: Ramming Moss Flint Taylor Tasker Adeeko Gilmour Hannant Smith Hayes Brown
4-2-3-1 with Smith playing the 10 role behind Brown. If Hayes isn't fit then I would try Middleton there. Maguire being fit again is a welcome boost but I would be wary of rushing him back in and I think Moss and Flint can strike up a decent partnership with Tasker and Taylor either side. I also think Mani D needs to be dropped and the only viable forward we have in that position (save a cameo from Hendo) is Brown at the moment
I understand your point but ultimately, he’s in there to score goals, I don’t remember him having a shot on target this season bar the one against Gillingham (which he should have buried).
I’ll be very disappointed if he starts next game***
Waller in for Ramming and now Maguire’s fit, him in for Wilson?
Those two are quite clearly the weak links in the side.
I’d also try Brown up front and one of our many wingers in Brown’s former position. Mani needs dropping, even if it’s just to give him a kick up the @rse
I have to say that I think our midfield is as big a problem as our defence. The amount of times a midfielder receives a ball in acres of space is both worrying and baffling
And also going through the process of appointing someone to help with the recruitment side of things (which now makes sense since SG confirmed JM took the previous incumbent with him to Stockport).
I know it’s been said before but this video serves as a timely reminder that there is a human being at the centre of our frustrations who does actually come across as a really nice and likeable chap

You can be appreciative of all of the support that Gauge give the club in its time in need whilst still criticising his decision making and questioning his footballing credentials.
I would go as far to say that this is the stance/opinion of most sensible supporters of the club
Very interesting in hindsight that he mentioned McNulty, maybe to ensure that he put distance between himself and IW so it didn’t look like a job for the boys signing?
I don’t think Wilson can even play one game in 90 minutes. He looks all at sea and fills me with dread when he has the ball at his feet.
Tasker’s performance was encouraging but he is quite clearly not match fit enough for 90 minutes at this level (for now).
I don’t think a competent keeper gets beat in that manner for the first goal. Ramming is unfortunately not good enough for this level.
Moss is a good defender but can’t do it all on his own.
On the flip side, there is certainly a player in Taylor.
I think we lost the midfield battle today. I can’t confidently say that Francis is better or brings more the pitch than Gilmour.
Due to Francis’ limitations , Adeeko was overrun and couldn’t put his stamp on the game.
Hannant put some good balls in the box which would have been lapped up by a mobile and hungry striker (more on him soon).
Duberry is tricky and quick but we didn’t utilise him anywhere near enough with most of the play frustratingly coming down our right hand sight.
Brown was quite decent and tried his nuts off but he didn’t have much help around him.
Mani should have absolutely buried that header (although the keeper did make a good save). Aside from that, he really needs to be doing more. If he doesn’t score he looks like an absolute passenger, even more so at this level
