Take it easy mate. Hopefully you'll soon be feeling in a much better place and things will seem less of a struggle. This is a brilliant message board, but ultimately it's not real life, so try to ignore anything that upsets you on here.
Hope the stuff in the real world is soon feeling much more manageable. |

Glad you had a good time. It's a great atmosphere at ER when it's a big game and things are going okay on the itch. Which stand were you in? It's all pretty austere behind the scenes, but Hibs have done a good job with the redevelopment of ER. Biggest football ground in Edinburgh too!
I think you would have got a SoL if Hibs had gone through. Shame to miss that as that is a proper hairs-on-end experience. |

Is this not just a load of suburban blokes approaching their forties realising that being part of a group with a dress code is the sort of thing you do when you're eight? Like the cubs but with pyros rather than bonfires. Did being a middle-aged bloke telling people that you spent your weekend wearing matching t-shirts and silk scarves with your other "ultra" mates start feeling a bit daft? I wish them all the best and hope they enjoy travelling round the country going to watch their team with their mates, but without the uniform and the manifestos, in the same way that most other supporters have for decades. |

My earliest memories are my dad taking us to Barnet to watch Jimmy Greaves, who had been one of his idols, but was in all sorts of bother with his drinking by then. Went to a fair few games there around 5 years old, and then got taken to the Lane aged about 6, standing on the Shelf unable to see anything – I think it was against Cov - and then smashing my teeth into the barrier when Tottenham scored, with a lot of blood everywhere. A few memories around the same time of fighting on the Seven Sisters Rd, seemingly before and after every game, and thinking that the police horses were fu cking massive, and that I would rather be at home with my mum. I really didn’t like going to football back when I was 6-9 – everyone seemed so fu cking angry and it would kick-off everywhere. I stopped going for a couple of years. Sitting on the ground in the home end at Watford v Grimsby aged about 7, staring at the floor for most of the game, bored out of my nut (no idea why my dad decided to take us to that random game). Watching my dad play for his team over in Edmonton and then being driven back across North London by his teammate, who was clearly pi ssed. Eating meat paste sarnies at Norwich (we were on holiday in Yarmouth). If my dad drove to any game anywhere, he would basically park up as soon as you spotted the floodlights and it would always involve legging it 2 miles back to the car in time for the results to be read out. No idea how he used to remember where he'd left the car - I need to ask him. Good times! |

Nice one. Should be a good atmosphere although I don't think there's many Gent coming across. Have you been to ER before? If you don't have pre-match plans, then The Persevere on ER would be my suggestion - get there early to get a seat. It's about 1/2 mile from the ground. Enjoy yourself and hopefully Hibs will get a win. |

Yeah, that would have been an amazing away trip for Hearts. Vienna's a great city, losing 1-0, man sent-off, go 2-1 up with ten men, concede an equaliser with 1 minute left in ET, and then win on pens! A proper emotional rollercoaster - I was gutted, but I know a couple of really decent Jambos who were out there, so, I'm a (tiny) bit happy for them. |

Really sorry to hear that Ned. Life can be a bastar d at times. I'm glad you've applied for the financial help to which you're entitled. Benefits are there to help people when they need support, so no one should ever feel awkward about it.

Yeah, I know. The OF don't have that advantage. St Mirren's board, for instance, really need to take a good hard look at themselves, and ask, "Could we be doing more to help the OF in Europe? Is it time we spent £50m on players and salaries, to try and help Celtic into the group stages?"
I guess the worry for the "diddy" clubs, is that you put together a really good, competitive side, but rather than helping Celtic in Europe, you accidentally win the SPL or one of the cups, which doesn't help the OF at all. The law of unintended consequences. It's a tricky one. |

My favourite thing is when OF fans complain that they're usually sh it in Europe because they don't get enough competitive games against the "diddy" teams in Scotland, so when they play someone decent, they can't step-up. I especially like this when it's some OF glory-hunter from a town or city with a perfectly fine club, who doesn't realise that it's cu nts like them not supporting their local team, who make it so difficult for everyone else to compete. I used to work with a very nice bloke who was the most proud Leither in the world, but supported Rangers, and would endlessly bang on about how clubs like Hibs and Hearts were letting down Scottish football by not giving the OF proper competition. This was especially annoying in the days before packing squads with players from all over the world, when the moment Aberdeen/Utd/Hearts/Hibs started putting together a decent side, the OF would sign all their star players. Fu ck-off! |

Ted - That is such awful news. I hope you're not in too much discomfort and that looking back on what always sounds like a very full life, provides you with some laughs and happy recollections.

For 4 of the last 5 years, we've done a fortnight in France. First week is proper peace and quiet with friends in a house with a pool, in the middle of nowhere, and the second week, we have a couple of days in a city (where we try and get a game in), and then a few days on the coast. Overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen, and then back to Portsmouth via Cherbourg on a midday crossing. We've previously stayed in Normandy and Brittany, but this year ventured further south and stayed about an hour east of Bordeaux. We broke the journey up with an overnight in Tours on the way down, and Blois on the way up to Paris.
Other than British, Dutch, Belgian, and German cars on the roads, we very rarely notice anything other than locals and domestic tourists. Despite not speaking more than about ten words of French, I generally find the French to be very patient and helpful; even in Paris and the other big cities. |

I think Hibs were just called 'Hibernian FC' all along. I could be wrong, but I'd not heard of the Celtic bit. I think most Hibs dislike the Sectarianism you get with the OF, the glory hunters that you find everywhere with both clubs, the fact that OF away supports are a pain in the ar se, the financial domination etc. A lot I know also dislike the fact that a lot of Celtic seem to think of Hibs as almost a little brother/cousins in Edinburgh, seemingly oblivious to the fact that most Hibs have no time for them.
Generalising here, but I think most Hibs fans see Hibs as a Scottish club with Irish roots (name, colours, harp on the badge, Club motto 'Erin go bragh'), whereas a lot of Celtic fans see themselves as an Irish club playing in Scotland. You get people bringing out the odd tricolour to wave at Rangers and Hearts but it's not really more than that.
I'm pretty sure that Hibs support would be very split along religious lines - almost none of the Hibs fans that I know, have RC backgrounds. Whether you're a Hibby or not is probably determined by geography as much as anything. |

It was very funny. Btw, I have never met a Hibs fan who didn't at least strongly dislike Celtic. A lot of people think there's some sort of bond between the two clubs, but there really isn't from Hibs perspective. |

I took my son to the game and we had a perfect view of the goal - he absolutely meant it. Yeah, 999/1000 times that's not coming off, but it wasn't a case of sticking a leg out and hoping. I think you're allowed to be pretty pleased with yourself when you're a young lad and you score your first goal for your new club with a back heeled volley from in line with the penalty spot, almost in the top corner, in the 85th minute, in front of your supporters! I would still be running round celebrating now! |

I have been very underwhelmed by Greenwood so far, but I will admit that I am massively biased against him on account of his absolute dogshi t Cole Palmer barnet. Very early days, but I'm not sure what he is supposed to offer/be good at.
You can tell my son's getting to understand how things work more now that he's older as his pre-season prediction for City was twelfth. |
