Rest of the Championship thread 25/26

Oxford and Charlton for me. They've well and truly ridden the wave of promotion now and it won't be long now until Nathan Jones is entering soap opera/care home territory

I thought he spoke very well at half time and it was interesting that even though his career highlight was probably playing in the World Cup he seemed to reflect most fondly on his move from Fulham to QPR and his abiding memories now are of talking to people who recognise and connect with him. Very interesting from a human point of view.

Fantastic win but the Cifuentes Abuse
at 13:20 22 Dec 2025

Didn't rate any of the Marti chants. All unnecessary in my opinion given the job he did, keeping us in the Championship twice when he had his hands tied behind his back due to the appointment of Ainsworth and duff signings in the summer of 2024. Good luck to him at Leicester. Hope he can turn it round there.

So Cifuentes ?
at 19:52 20 Dec 2025

I was amazed how predictable they were under Marti. I thought he was better than that. They didn't change their shape at any stage of the game. The wingers hugged the touch line even though they probably only touched the ball about 5 times all game and he just left Ayew up top on his own despite him not getting a look-in. Looked like he had run out of ideas to me. We read them like a book.

Gaffer on today's win
at 19:47 20 Dec 2025

He's done well. He's got the players playing to his tune and buying into his philosophy of fluid attacking football. Still needs to find a way to get results away from home but he's got us taking control at home so hopefully he can find a way away from home soon.

For all those unwanted blockages and skidmarks, look no further than Super Simon Stainrod

It's a little bit difficult to know whether he is pissed off or not because he kind of sounds the same win, lose or draw

Slowly improving.

Wow ....

I normally agree with your take but I think that is quite an unrealistic outlook

Perhaps you'd like to look at your assessment again ...

Nardi - great shot stopper - yes, can be uncertain when coming out of his goal but his reflex shot stopping is something else. Yet to see better in the League for point blank saving

Full backs - RND is a regular 8 out of 10. A little tired today but otherwise 8 out of 10. Mbengue is a dark horse/rough diamond. He will come good.

CB's - Yes, I will grant you, JCS should not be starting. He's not 'die in the ditch' material. Jimmy Dunne is fine but we need a talented ball playing CB alongside him. Ronnie Edwards ?

CM's - Varane and Madsen are a work in progress. They are developing a partnership. With the right players alongside, behind and in front of them they will be effective

The 'Anthill Mob', It's OK. They all contribute and have strings to their bows. They can all create bits and pieces, And they work hard.

Up front - I'd challenge anyone to diss Burrell for his work rate and ingenuity and I think you are being too hard on Richard give that he was playing at about Level 11 only 3 years ago and to date has a season and a half of League One under his belt. The there is Kolli, who is undoubtedly a great talent but there have been some expectational issues to be dealt with

Plus there are more - Morgan etc.

So while I was concerned 4 /5 weeks ago I would say we are doing OK and if we get behind the lads and support what we have got we might be pleasantly surprised to find out that the sum turns out to be greater than the value of the individual parts

Tyler and Sints comms from the last 5 minutes of last night

I'm struggling to think of many more times when I have experienced such instantaneous joy at LR. I wasn't there for Jamie Mackie v Liverpool and for some reason David Pizanti v West Ham is the occasion which triggers similar memories of jumping up and down so dementedly

p.s. think I experienced the same on the north bank when Clive Allen scored in the cup semi-final but i got carried down about ten rows in the surge and don't remember it too well

Again, he was better than the opposition keeper.

I wouldn't want to pick anyone out tonight. The whole team was immense and the subs made good impacts too.

The second half was immense. The collective intensity, the collective game plan and the speed of thought and action was outstanding. Everyone was on their game. The ethic and tactics and technique, against a decent big team who made it hard were amazing. Congrats not only to the players (richly deserved) but also the coaching team - they've earned their corn these last two games.

Yeah the last time we had him he was OK, but today he was back to his meddling ways. How that wasn't a foul on Mbengue when he was bringing it out nobody knows.

Also, the head injuries. OK, blow up if you see one and blow up immediately. But not when a player seems to go down after the incident and the game has gone on for seconds.

West Brom Reflection
at 19:10 6 Dec 2025

I thought the first half was OK. WBA were well organised first half - even if they didn't have too much attacking intent. I thought it was a good tight first half.

But I'm sure I saw the starting line-up on the BBC with Dembele in it and Kone on the bench. Or was that never the case ?

Used to enjoy watching Smith and Lamb piling on the middle order runs for us. Smith was amazing on the off-side from memory - drives and cuts. Sad to hear that he has passed. RIP.

Dembele v Smythe
at 13:22 27 Nov 2025

I think Dembele is a bit nimbler which goes well at the start when games are tighter. Smyth's slightly more rugged style is better when the game is a bit more stretched. They both have their plus points though. Horses for courses and that ....

When did the penny drop?
at 14:11 24 Nov 2025

When I was a little boy I thought there was a limit to how long your voice lasted for and that when I was older I would lose my voice and become dumb.

Also, I thought that when countries went to war soldiers fought each other 24/7 and never slept.

Extended highlights QPR 3 Hull 2
at 23:34 23 Nov 2025

Agree with the above. Good game. Both teams going for it and attacking well.

Quite impressed with how we stretched them laterally looking at those highlights. Real good width on both sides, sometimes at the same time. Good tactics.

Rayan Kolli

He played well when he came on and was ideal in the conditions and the game going from end to end. Hopefully, the penny will drop with JS that, as Marti demonstrated last year, two or three of the Devt Squad justify game time in the 1st team.

Hull Reflection
at 19:18 22 Nov 2025

Agree it was a strange game. Hull will be kicking themselves not to take something from the game after twice being up. They had us on the edge of our pants every time they attacked but they didn't close it out at all. I thought everyone did quite well, and yes Chair was buzzing around and linking things together well. Kone mis-placed a lot of passes. I think he was a little unlucky. But on a zippy pitch like that and when we are trying to spring some quick moves in the final third, Kolli has to be the better option. Surprised no Vale anywhere in the match day squad but I suppose not all 7 of our play-makers can play when 5 are in the team or on the bench. Glad to see JD back at CB and AM at RB. That's a much better combination given their relative strengths.
