For McCarthy read Ramsdale, albeit even more expensive. Sounds like he will be on an excellent salaried four months paternity leave!?! I'd expect Long to be on the bench but if Peretz was seriously injured then, just like McCarthy after Bazunu was injured, Ramsdale will step in. It's an expensive insurance policy for SR and Solak but not bad situation for Saints as Long couldn't really be viewed as a replacement for Peretz over any length of time. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Ramsdale was helping Lallana with the U21s. |

If Downs, Archer and BBD have all gone on loan then it's surely time for the Prince to step up as the third striker behind Larin and Mubama. No other choice I guess despite underwhelming loan spells. He's 6.4 according to Wiki so that's a plus if true! |

I think it's a case that all three need game time to develop so they are sent out to lower league team in the hope that they will play. Very often it seems these plans don't come to fruition and they remain third or fourth choice. Wouldn't be surprised to see Quarshie back in January and Abbott return to Forest as neither had enough game time. |

Bit of a PR gaff, driven by THB still not confirmed as leaving when Schlotterbeck was signed. Seems as if Wood is actually going to be THB replacement as the permanent fixture on the right with Schlotterbeck and Stephens sharing the left centre back and leadership role. I guess Quashie has gone for game time after being fourth choice for much of last year and this lad is here to fill that role. Shame about the two experienced options but better than the young 18 year old Italian lad who would have been a big risk. |

I don't think Stephens was dropped because of previous mistakes, rather it's because he can't play three games a week easily. Last year he rotated with Wood, I've a feeling this year it will be with Schlotterbeck, who also is unlikely to play every game given Tonda's comments. We still need another starting centre back if THB goes as expected. Also if the assorted wages of Ramsdale,Sugawara, Downs and Archer are off the books then a third central striker would make it a good window all things considered. |

I think most people anticipated losing two of Charles, Jander, Scienza and THB and I still think that will be the case late in the window. Given the disappointment of last year, Saints have been fairly proactive in securing Peretz, Larin and Dobbin. I've mixed feelings about Stewart and we won't really be able to make a comparison between him and Mubama until the end of the season but positionally the change is like for like at least. Similarly whether Dobbin is an adequate alternative to Azaz won't become clear until he settles in properly. I'd expect a replacement for Charles fairly soon with everything else being resolved on deadline day. |

Some tactical mistakes. Dobbin on left didn't work. Need another strong combative midfielder, Bragg tidy but not a ball winner. Scienza can get kicked out of the game. Jack not up to speed. Manning gets caught out of position. Larin, Matzuki, Downes all very good but overall a lack of intensity in comparison with Watford for much of the game. Hey ho. It's a long season. |

Optimum, fairly realistic window for me would be:
Sell/ loan - Ramsdale, Bazunu,Sugawara, Charles,Archer, Downs,Diaz, Larios,Robinson (loan), Kayi-Sanda (loan)
Keep: THB, Jander,Scienza
Buy: Lankshear, Devenny
Loan: Another centre forward and AM to cover Azaz

THB needs another go in the Prem with a decent mid table side. Had the spy nonsense not happened he could have had his third promotion. He needs to take the next step not wait another year in the Championship with us. I wonder if Kayi-Sanda is ready for the step up with Stephens, Quarshie and Wood.
Charles only has one year left on his contract I believe and has the class if not the concentration and toughness currently to make a move to a good Prem league side where he can continue his development.
If Jander can get over his suggested homesickness he should stay with us . Best for both parties.
Similarly Scienza. I'm still not sure he is Premier League and will continue to be a star for us. His age is against a big money move and he's on a long contract with us.
I reckon 2 out of 4 will go but who knows...... |

Seems a very strange decision from the outside. I'd thought they had been very sensible accepting their fate early and getting a proven championship manager and beginning to assemble a championship squad capable of hitting the ground running. Now they've got the same chaos of all the other relegated clubs that sack their manager at the end of the season. |

I'd hold off on Ross Stewart. Being carefully managed through half a season with Larin as an alternate is one thing, to start a season with that pairing is another. Saints are one injury to either of them away from having a major problem. Another robust centre forward to lead the line is needed regardless of whether Stewart stays for another year. |

I think Tonda will be keen on getting the ex Luton/ Derby centre forward who scored against us. I forget his name but he would be a good alternative to Larin if Stewart goes elsewhere. |

Whilst accepting the need for continuity etc, surely Preston is the game to give as many as possible a break and re-set for the playoffs. Long, Jelert, Kayi-Sanda, Quarshie, Wellington, Romeu, Bragg, Robinson and Edozie plus some youngsters upfront and on the bench. Give the first team squad a breather to get over the disappointment of late goals and general exhaustion at this point in the season. |
