I agree Shun.
I recently took the tram to Manchester which went through Oldham. The amount of boarded up windows I saw through the shoddy* town of Oldham made me wonder if their locals still thought the Window Tax was in existence.
I imagine window cleaners in Oldham have to carry a sander.
*Apparently Rochdale folk used to call Oldham a shoddy town 150 years ago because the cloth they produced in their mills was inferior to Rochdale cloth.
As for the game - not that good, but the battling we want was there. As they say, "it's who wants it the most". That was us today. |

The worst thing about the chaos at Sudden is the braindead decision to simultaneously do other roadworks elsewhere, eg Dane Street, and on the approach to the motorway in Heywood, which is nearly gridlocked all day. Plus resurfacing Queens Park Road as well.
It'd be lovely to have someone in charge of road planning who could have foreseen that redesigning Sudden would put extra pressure on Heywood and therefore delay both Heywood jobs until Sudden is done. I bet whoever makes these decisions doesn't drive! |

I agree about the red flags. Still early days, but how a Manager can select a RWB (Toby) to play Left Wing whilst leaving a Left Winger (Hannant) on the bench is just football tvvattery. I know very little on football tactics etc but I do know to play left footers on the left and right footers on the right.
The similarities between this side and FRM Steve Eyre's side is staggering. I actually think Hogan would be much better than Sherring.
When the walking wounded are back things might pick up, but we've had too many Managers who can talk a good game but can't actually manage. It started with Simpson!
And the lack of urgency when trying to get back into the game reminded me of a BBM side.
And the subs should have been made much sooner.
It's just basic stuff really that you'd expect a Manager to know. |

Fully agree about not having RMBC owning shares in the club.
RMBC have forever been very pro-Hornets almost to the point of being anti-Dale.. One day, our owners may need to make a decision about the tenants and would be better placed to do so without a shareholder wittering on in the background.
As you say, councillors come and go. Some of us are old enough to remember Farnell dropping us in the shit, and N Smith blocking the Denehurst Park training development.
And they do float with the wind! Can't remember his name, but one couldn't wait to be photographed in the Ob* wearing the scarf prior to our Wolves FA Cup tie.
Never seen him since at the ground.
*Another bunch of pro-hornets townsfolk. |

Transport issues again YD?
Burnley is a lot different to us in that its catchment is huge, even capturing fans from Whitworth and Littleborough. Not to mention Skipton, Keighley, Todmorden, and all of East Lancs and Rossendale.
Burnley is a club of a region/catchment area. We are a club of the town. The new training facility might bring Middleton closer though. |

Absolutely brilliant. A chance for Rochdalians to make Rochdale better for the next generation. And that's the town and the club. They go hand in hand. The Club really is the town now. What else in this town could have given the town the publicity it's had for the last year other than Dale? (And don't say York!)
One thing I've learned from my travels is that certain towns/cities have a mentality where everyone there supports the local club, and the club supports the town. Huddersfield is the best example I've seen. Leeds the same. Even Chesterfield have got a new lease of life. |

I'm not so sure. Femi Seriki who played one National League season here at left back was rubbish I thought, but has since gone onto be virtually ever present for Sheffield United playing over 60 times.
On the other hand Perry played half a season here and was excellent. I wouldn't be surprised to see him knocking on the door of Coventry's first XI.
I think Rhys Norrington was another Sheffield United left back loaned to us who did well, and then appeared much higher up the food chain the season after perhaps for Luton and Sheff Utd. |

Really? Whilst Dolan lifted us to a top half finish in Division Four, McNulty won us a promotion and the club's first silverware. I am open to being in agreement with Parkin though. |

That's well remembered. The person who first aired the idea was Ian Stott, the Chairman of Oldham circa 1998. He said the way forward might be for Oldham, bury and Dale to merge to create a new club called Manchester North End.
At the time, Latics were spiraling downwards from their Premier League days and were 3rd tier under Warnock I think. I think bury were tier 2 then under Ternent. We were in the depths of the Barrow era so could have emerged as the biggest winners from such a deal. Yet no-one was remotely interested.
The story never made it past the Manchester Evening News inside back page as I recall. |

That club statement is probably the best thing to come out of the club in my lifetime and possibly since 1907. (the two dates aren't similar by the way!)
The Ogden family seem invested in the town as well as the club. Both matter. My instinct is that a good club helps the town improve. The other way round doesn't feel the same, as folk will look elsewhere for football. |

On a serious note, I remember how bad Division 4 was before 1 up 1 down. You could be absolutely shyte and get away with it, as we often did. Introducing 1 up 1 down improved the quality of Division 4, and when it became 2 up 2 down the quality went up again. In theory 3 up 3 down would improve League Two further. |
