Two reasons in my opinion. Reason one - The opposition have now worked us out. Nobody knew Tonda and what his tactics were in the first few games. It was a mystery to the opposition. After a few games they have worked out Tonda's tactics and know he is a one trick pony. They know he was playing the same way in every game. He only knows how to play in one way. The opposition press high, fill the space in front of our back 5, so that we can't pass out from the back anymore. We can't go long because we don't have a striker up there to hold it up. We have been worked out. Reason two - This is unknown, we can't prove this but for me is likely. The players wanted Tonda. They obviously liked him at the time, an easy going friend inside the club, who they knew would be easy to play under. They knew his calm, quiet personality and thought better to have him than a disciplinarian. The players also wanted to prove to the board that Will Still was the wrong man. Our captain Stephens clearly went to the board about Still as the rumours suggested. It was him. So the players wanted to prove their point. So they played out of their skin to get him the job. Now he has the job, they know that they can just relax and take their pay packet. They know Tonda is not a force to be reckoned with. They are just taking it easy. Hence the rumours that some of these players are difficult , trouble makers etc. Overall though, experience really matters. Some.of us were tricked in Tonda's first few games. An experienced manager always knows more than a young inexperienced one. An experienced doctor is always better than a novice fresh out of medical school. It won't ever change but SR want a yes man every time. [Post edited 18 Jan 23:52]

It's Solak and the company he leads. He is at the top. He has employed numerous senior staff who all do the same thing, making the same mistakes. After the Will Still debacle, Solak should have intervened and appointed an experienced manager. He is ultimately to blame. He has allowed all the appointments below him. [Post edited 17 Jan 23:07]

Yes, Saint22 knows more than Tonda. We should not be playing 5 at the back in a home game, and with 3 defenders, we still concede a hatful. So we should play 442 and be on the front foot, rather than this tippy tappy rubbish. [Post edited 17 Jan 22:44]

Our defence is terrible. Mark Robins has them very well organised at Stoke. Wilder will outdo Tonda on Wednesday. |

It's absolutely astonishing Saintmark and it shows what a shambles this club has become. Too young, Too inexperienced, a yes man we said. And it's not difficult to predict. Managers who have never played the game, never managed before or both are well out of their depth, not respected and surprise surprise they don't know what they are doing. We will do a Luton and be relegated to League one with this lot in charge. Lots of chants against SR today, but still some people just sat there and a few clapping half arsed performances. Do.they enjoy smiling and clapping after another defeat? Do they not care or are they just day trippers or Pompey fans? Why say well done to.utter failure?. The protest need to ramp up. Amd f@ck.me, how terrible was our new goalkeeper!!! |
 | Forum Thread | Sporting Directors Spoiling Football at 16:03 15 Jan 2026
https://uk.yahoo.com/sports/ne No fan of Carragher, but here is an ex professional player who has won leagues and cups. He's spot on here. Tonda is being told what to do by Spors, a total yes man, controlled by the man above him, who is in turn controlled by the owners above him to make money on players for a profit. "They just put a coach in who will do what they say. If you're a sporting director and you want a top manager, there's going to be friction. "Top managers are not going to be yes men, are they?" Anyone with any sense knows that the above is true. So Saints will never have a top manager with current set up, full of control and micro management. "That is a question for Johannes," is Eckert's favourite tag line. So anyone thinking the manger is making mistakes, just remember "Ask Jonannes". [Post edited 15 Jan 16:42]

When Adam Blackmore asked him on Solent, Tonda said he couldn't say, ask Spors. |

Two teams without philosophies and passing around the back. Just teams playing football and trying to win the game. Players giving their all for the shirt, without all the diving etc. . How football should be and how it used to be. And it's great at Eastleigh. You can walk where you want, nice and relaxed. Not the control we get at St Mary's. [Post edited 13 Jan 22:41]

Think failed communist states where all the money goes to the top, but those below are all controlled. The five remaining self-declared communist states are: China Cuba Laos North Korea Vietnam In states often referred to as "communist," a political elite or ruling party leadership typically enjoys a significantly higher standard of living and access to resources compared to the general population. Some animals are more important than others but all the others must follow the rules. The president of China is far, far richer than his people. Likewise the president of North Korea. But they are communist countries? All control except for the man at the top? The controlling bit is key. I.e. If you want a Pompey ticket, you must all follow the rules, we are all equal unless you an executive for P and O or a player's wife. Some fans are more Important than others. Which animal was more important than the other animals in animal farm? Will the executives / elite of the club, travel on busses without food and drink? Will they sit on a coach for an hour before departure? Just like these failing states, SFC is failing with its controlling, toxic culture, where people like Tonda are too scared to speak out. Adam Blackmore "Surely today is an example of how important it is to get a leader att the back' Tonda "Now is not the time to discuss this. I can't say" Sports Republic OUT. Hopefully there are huge protests Saturday. [Post edited 13 Jan 19:42]

I will also be writing to them, and looking into the legal actions that can be taken. To not have access to water in particular for possibly two hours on the coach and much longer if you can't afford to pay for food and drink, is technically illegal, and for them to say that you can eat and drink but you have to pay, is walking on dodgy ground. Making people leave so early is also ridiculous. I don't mind the bubble but let people eat and drink, and leave later en masse wth an escort, close the roads - I can't see what the problem is with that. It was fine when we played them in the championship a few years ago. Sports Republic are real f@cking communists. Think how Tonda is controlled from those above and managers before him, the Itchen North getting closed, free pies only for those who go with the official travel (in other words, you.must travel with the club or you won't get a thing). What a boring tie zzz. At least we could have got Macclesfield, PL side or something interesting. Hopefully the ticket prices reflect how boring the tie is. |
 | Forum Reply | Stoke away at 00:05 12 Jan 2026
No problem. As you put it, these numpties don't care about the fans. If we sell 1500 seats and they close the sales period, they would rather that than put another block on sale and have to pay a few seats that don't get sold. They don't care that few hundred more fans might help the team, just that they don't lose any money. |

Was he one of the trouble makers, just useless or both? Alfie House certainly didn't mention his name as one of those who should stay. |
 | Forum Reply | Stoke away at 22:45 11 Jan 2026
Or more likely, they track the rate of sale and it has gone down to selling just a few tickets a day, and have to make a decision whether to take another block or not. Taking another block means having to pay for any unsold tickets, and they wouldn't do that now that only a few are being sold a day. Far too much of a risk that they might lose a couple of grand, if we only ended up selling half the block. They rather pay someone to check the data and rate of sales. |

I am not sure they will suffer the consequences. You would think so, but Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton go from strength to strength. Bournemouth have lost a lot of good players, Callum Wilson and others. Brentford lost Mbeumo, Ivan Toni and few other top players, add to that losing a great manager Thomas Frank. After all that, they recruit well and are now 5th in the premier league. Saints are just extremely badly run by terrible owners. Our owners sell our best players and then replace them with vastly inferior ones, and our managers get worse, each one in turn. Plus the culture is toxic, whereas at other clubs it's not. |
