The Next Two Games is the Season - Shittu and Dou Dou Time
at 14:42 3 Apr 2025

This Saturday we just need a Jimmy Dunne goal v Birmingham moment like last season.

If Jimmy or anyone else fancies it, that would be nice.

The block tackle. The feint/drop of the shoulder. The left foot.

Oh yeah.

I thought the film Crash covered the weird horniness quite well, and Deborah Unger was well fit.

Yeah I've kind of reached that stage too.

I don't think we'll go down this season; but even if we don't, unless our summer recruitment is largely excellent (ha), then we probably go down next season.

Injury hit, on the beach and checked out, QPR soundly beaten – Report
at 09:29 3 Apr 2025

As mentioned clearly we miss Field. And Morgan was also a big part of that upturn but as a kid making his way in really his first full season of football, we couldn't continue to lean on him too.

I think what changed was we got to a position of comfort and added to that Chair came back from injury. So Cifuentes felt we were now safe enough to ditch the pragmatic approach and he could try to implement the more attacking expansive game which I think is his preference (and Nourry's?). But it's the Championship, you need to earn the right to play that way otherwise teams will just run straight through you as we have seen.

So results have since fallen off a cliff and we are where we are now, looking over our shoulder. And inevitably the injury list has also lengthened.

Seven games to go!

In a season full of wonderful moments, that Cardiff game was probably my favourite and Taarabt's goal to win it my favourite goal of the season.

He'll be coming off the bench on Saturday in the last ten minutes to score a stunning perfect hat trick, winning the game 3-2 for the mighty Bluebirds and triggering a twenty year descent through the leagues for the hapless Hoops.

Suffice to say I'm a big David Peace fan.

Clearly I love the bleakness

Keepers going short, refs walking tall – Analysis
at 11:31 2 Apr 2025

Yeah tall and strong is kind of a pre-requisite for this division. Chris Wilder understands that, I'm not sure if anyone at our club does though.

As for the refs I think they're all trying their best, and inevitably there is a bit of home bias most of the time. Unfortunately for the most part I just think they're not good enough.

Good point.

Really Paal should have been sent off for that god awful free kick which led to the Saito incident!

Ha, I remember his books in particular The Rats, doing the rounds at school when I was about 11 or 12, mainly due to the naughty sex bits in them

Can't really think of any book that was really unpleasant, but one of my all time favourites is GB84 by David Peace, about the Miners' Strike; superbly written but I suppose also very grim. Could make you lose faith in British society, law and politics all together!

German Football

Also a few German clubs have numbers in their names - only realised recently these usually refer to the last two digits of the year they were founded.

e.g. Bayer 04 Leverkusen (founded 1904)

Was having a chat with a colleague this morning who's a big Grimsby fan - made me feel a lot better about how we'll finish up.

Top of League Two is fascinating though, Walsall were running away with it and they've been on a terrible run of late. All to play for in the top six basically.
