Kone goal
at 18:26 21 Dec 2025

Don't think we should forget that we've scored 12 goals in those 4 consecutive home wins, and his physicality and aggression up front has played its part in that.

we're learning how to impose ourselves on the opposition at home, and we need to start doing the same away. I'd prefer we didn't change what works best for us . An extra body in centre mid is simply defensive and leaves Burrell isolated or takes some of our wide pace away. Either option makes us less likely to win away, and I'd rather we won 2 out of 6 away than tried to draw all six..

Take your point LB, but replays showed that the guy who scored had encroached before the spot kick and so the goal should have been disallowed. Like you, felt gutted that they got a goal as I felt going home with a nil was way more than they merited.

As i said elsewhere, I feel our mental attitude, toughness and aggression at home are improving bit by bit, which is hugely important if we are to progess.

Just home

Personally I thought Leicester stunk the place out. Clive made mention of them having wages delayed and it definitely looked to me like they had downed tools. They were appalling. gutted they got a goal - which should have been disallowed as their player had encroached into the area before the spot kick. They didn't even deserve nil.

Enough of them. We have got something going here. When's the last time we'd have rebounded from an away gubbing with a win? We've done it twice now. The mentality of the team is slowly hardening, we are beginning to show more aggression at home which has been lacking for years. I like Mbengue's attitude in particular, but Kone, Burrell, Dunne are also displaying that "not in my back yard" obduracy.

I find myself in the strange position of feeling like we could make the play offs, but I really don't want us to go up. I think we're maybe another three seasons away from potentially having a squad that could get promoted and reasonably expeot to stay up. We do need more physical presence and acquiring the players to add that won't happen overnight. But I'm really enjoying the ride for now.

Idiots that leave before full time….

Talking of idiots, many of us in SAR were complaining when 6 minutes was added on, couldn't believe it was more than 4. Quite pleased now it wasn't just 5

Does anyone have video footage of his goal from the SA Road stand side? The angle of the Sky Sports footage really doesn't do any justice to the velocity that ball travelled into the net.

Might have missed it being posted elsewhere, but I thought our pressing was much improved, perhaps the best it's been this season.

Rather nice to be able to call out his abysmal performance having won rather than it sounding like an excuse because we lost.

Right down there with the worst of the erstwhile Mr Styles. I'm assuming incompetent rather than anything more sinister because we did win, but he gave us absolutely nothing all afternoon, and was pretty close to the most effective performer for the other lot.

Would be very happy not to lay eyes on him at one of our games again.

Smyth’s super sub act lifts QPR into top half – Report

Good point about the importance of Burrell having a partner upfront I think. Although I'd prefer Kone, I think Frey should be a reasonable deputy when required. I also feel we do need to see Madsen getting 10 yards further forward in support when the ball is coming in from wide.

Talking of confusing labels and a lovely turn of phrase, should it be "gob-bumming" or "bum-gobbing"?

Possession, nine-tenths of the problem? – Analysis
at 19:59 13 Oct 2025

Well any business would want to know about trends for their product as a matter of good practice, but you're not going to base your future strategy entirely on past trends. You're also going to be paying attention to what's happening now and what impact that mightl have on the future of your product.

I don't blame anyone in football for imagining the way forward was going to be the Pep/Man C style of possession, passing out from the back breaking lines and so on. The collapse of form City experienced last season would have been a huge shock to everyone, and in hindsight it's perhaps not surprising that football has begun to turn more direct as a result.

As far as a game model goes, I think it should be about trying to develop young footballers with certain characteristics which fit a "team/squad model". Good all round football skills (left and right foot)yes, but a will to win, an ability to add positively to the team ethic and togetherness, these are all important attributes, and I'd suggest many of the very best players will have high degrees of each. Trying to develop a 15/16 yo to play particular type of positional skills because they are in vogue now in the expectation they'll still be in vogue in 5+ years time is too specific to be guaranteed a s uccess.

My tuppence worth anyway.

Possession, nine-tenths of the problem? – Analysis

Re the actuality vs game model, I'd like to think that our approach to a game model is flexible enough to recognise a change/evolution in how the game is played over time.

If a number of teams, including importantly mid and lower Prem teams {where we are most likely to attract interest in our players from}, are moving to a more direct style, then sticking stubbornly to a model that was conceived over 18 months ago wouldn't make much sense

In The Play Offs.

Here's the really mad bit.

If we'd played one game less, and that game was the Cov game, I don't think we'd be anywhere near the play offs.

Cov looking a class apart atm, but it does appear as though that thrashing may turn out to be a bit of a seminal moment for us.

He was poor, think Clive said it was his first game at this level and it showed.

Given that it really wasn't the most difficult game to officiate, he very nearly succeeded in losing control of it, and if it had been a team at PNE levels of shithousery I think we'd have ended with a blood bath.

Bircham isn’t happy

Interesting, I feel Jimmy is having an increasing influence on our attitude on the field. As has been pointed out, we're not allowing other teams to bully us, there's a little bit more shithousery going on when it suits us, and apparently a little bit more verbal been given out.

I don't mind a bit more mental around the place at all, as long as it's with some control. If that makes sense. It seemed to me a very similar vibe amongst the fans too., I said elsewhere it was the best atmosphere I can remember for a 12.30 ko in a good while.

I'm in favour of making those who aren't in the team realise that they'll have to work hard to get back in, and not waste their opportunity if and when they get it. In reality, the three game weeks will see some rotation out of necessity.

There does seem to be a reasonable sprinkling of bat sh1t crazy about us at the moment. Mbengue and his after match celebrations, Kone whipping up the fans. It is very QPR.

That Mbengue tackle
at 20:28 20 Sep 2025

Got to say I thought the ref was useless most of the day. Mbengue booked for no worse than a 50/50 challenge at almost exactly the same spot in our half as Koki was haviong his hirt torn off earlier. Stop play for an incidentb wheee we are in possession because their goalie and defender lie down holding their heads and jump up nthe minute the free is awarded. Might have spotted that would be the case if he'd been watching the incident. Dunne's booking. Burrell's booking. Three additional minutes in the first half that had to be closer to ten. Spent most of the day wandering about like he was happy to be there.

Useless.

At the moment, we haven't played more than one league game a week. As the three game weeks come along, him, Chair, Poku, Frey and Kolli will be important.
