This old chestnut of 'hes scoring goals in an inferior league' pops up again
How many players have done exactly this and gone on to be decent players?
Galatasaray,Fenerbahce,Beşiktaş,Trabzonspor and Samsunspor are decent sides that have beaten top English sides in their time.
Galatasaray are a particularly good team.
Guess who Galatasaray wanted to sign?
Paul was with us 2 years and the stats say he played 36 games and scored 4 goals but that doesn't tell you how many he started and that he played under some of the worst managers Saints have ever had, who pursued a system that didn't play to his strengths.
Yes I have seen him play and often I watched him tracking back to midfield so he might see the ball.
Remember he was playing in the Premiership like that.
We should have kept him and used him as a target man and he would have been useful defending corners.
I 'm not saying he would have been the answer in the Premiership but worth a chance in the Championship.
Our problem is more off the field than on it,we keep getting it wrong.

Wolves have found that out this season by the sale of Cunha.

Returning to QPR.
He joined us in July 2024,was a player of the season for them.
On joining us he played just 12 times.
Why do players form appear to go backwards on joint us?
Watch him shine for QPR now.
I’m not so sure what’s more depressing, what’s happening on the pitch or off it.

Almost as bad as when we sold Shearer and Branfoot bought Speedie and Dixon as replacements.

If my Memory serves me right,Davies,Channon and Chivers did play a game together.
I think it was Chivers last game before going to Spurs

Boy could we do with a player like anyone of those three now.

Sad News
Great player for Saints, scored nearly 100 goals for Saints.
Scored a lot of goals supplied from the wings by Paine and Sydenham
Left for Spurs when Channon was coming through, for a then record fee of £125,000.
He was rock solid,I didn't see anyone knock him off the ball, great player who played for England a few times.

RIP Martin,thanks for the memories.

Downs only started two games, admittedly in didn't look good in those and the other 12 appearances from the bench.
What concerns me why we struggle to make players any better.
Why are the Germans keen on him?
Tall Paul maybe wasn't good enough for the Premiership but would have been worth a try in the Championship.
As for Peretz,he played 4 games for Bayern in 2023,1 in 2024 and none for Hamburger on Loan last year. That doesn't impress me much. One can only hope he does well or we have a big problem.

Defensive midfielders can score goals, look at Victor Torp at Coventry hes scored 7 in 23 games.
I didn't notice him controlling central midfield for us,the team did well enough without him when Tonda took control at the beginning.

'Our most consistent player Shea Charles'

I'm sorry but what was he consistent at?

He has played 44 games for us and scored none.
He was on loan to Sheffield Wednesday and played 43 and scored one.

I cant remember many assists either,

Head Coach vs Manager
at 15:05 5 Jan 2026

It seems to me that it boils down to this Head Coach/Manager scenario.
A Manager manages the team, has a serious say in player sales and requirement.
A Head Coach has to make do with what hes given.
Guess what we have?

I see no point in Coaches /Managers who have no say in player recruitment or sales.
I know owners have to manage the finances but this has to take in consideration what’s best for the team and this has to be done with a Coaches opinions in mind.
