away from it all today so only following on stats ... possession fairly similar, we had the nudge on goal scoring opps, so any excitement presumably based on result and assumed 'effort' or 'drive' of players on the back of that. we go again for another 6 pointer Tuesday, Can't afford to lose, need to win to give a little bit of breathing space. |

presumably the next target of blame will be the board if they don't spend big again in the next window, and in essence, admit that everything they did over the Summer was wrong, and they have bought a new manager to start from scratch. I mean, there is a fans eye hope, and then there is the real world ... |

OK, so we might have differing views of why the manager was pushed. But both seem to be based on the same premise that we have a good squad? (I'm not necessarily of that opinion, but I'm simply reflecting the reasoning of the broader fanbase from Summer up to the point of sacking Sheehan) As otherwise why bring in someone who may be more ready for a project than a motivational speech? |

This. Decent spend. And huge positivity from the fans with a few celebs bringing in contacts, exposure and merch. Not the toxic nonsense I hear about, there was a feelgood factor. Results not great, and so play off ambitions meant we sacked a guy for underperforming to that target. And replace with another who within 2 weeks is now in a relegation scrap. How the narrative at football clubs is written by results but this stuff about poor players and poor owners is not what was being said by the majority of the fans Aug/Sept. My main concern at the moment is we have a manager brought in to build a play off team with these ingredients but he is instead going to now be forced by fans to grind out results, that is probably not what got him the job ... if indeed he was first choice which is still not clear. And he doesn't have his people with him which does suggest a rush job. There is a bit of me thinking we might have got a point or two more under Sheehan over the last 3 games. |

well that is the usual turnaround if they don't perform for sure, but we spent a fair bit, so don't see how he is going to have much to play with. in the mean time we can make the other assumption that all the players that don't play are the keys to our success ... standard wishful thinking but assume he will take a look. surely he has been brought in to make this lot gel ... or we go down ... and he is with us for a long term project? |

The league position is a worry so: We have done the usual, sacked the manager, fans feeling he has done nothing with high quality purchases. Oh and doesn't know his best team, and makes all the wrong substitutions (always a fun one this, important as it is, how it becomes a defining point for a manager I never understand) Now I'm reading those purchases were not high quality and we have players stealing a living, but also (yesterday) showing glimpses of quality? Do we objectively know whether they are high quality or not? A second choice manager clearly not filling us with confidence, so the owners now about to get it again. Because the players were not quality at all and they couldn't replace Sheehan quickly enough even though they made a quick decision to remove, which was what people wanted. You can't beat a football messageboard for confusion and football is so short term. Which leads me to my only new point, if it is short term, and we need a few wins, this isn't time to be worrying about a project. Manager needs to make a sharp impact, a bit like Sheehan did ... and then didn't have the support for the 'project'. So this one will have his work cut out to keep fans onside! Our league positions are getting broadly lower though, the stats in general don't lie ... is every season a slightly more desperate attempt to reverse the decline? |

there was an air of inevitability, as you say, at least it hasn't dragged on. but 5 managers in 4 years is beginning to smack of a problem club, and there won't be many more chances to get it right before we follow the path of other clubs with that kind of turnover.... |
 | Forum Reply | Do you pull the trigger now? at 17:51 8 Nov 2025
looks like it needs to head that way, results and all that... perhaps today a reminder that we don't have this great squad people seem to think we do when compared to other semi premier league teams. why fans have to keep saying each performance is the worst they have seen in years ...considering they were saying the same under everyone of our last 5 managers I don't think we have fallen that far, and would still say the performances (if not results) against Man City and Preston were not all that bad..but a hiding at home and managers don't often survive |

always hope, never expect. would love to see the current team click and put a run together, they may still do that. if they don't and they win a few, lose a few they will finish mid table. which means likely they will be looking up at some point, but then looking over their shoulders at other points. we never seem to expect the latter to happen if we are going to end up mid table, yet it is in those moments that the knives come out as we rightly fear the worse case scenario. that pretty much sums up our last decade in my mind. |

is there any evidence kirk changed or developed his views on anything, or was he always defending a binary (no pun) position? with his ideology rooted in little other than the interpretation of a book thrown together a couple of millenia ago in the middle east by the pseudo intellectuals of their time, having a black and white opinion (no pun) on every modern social issue is quite a feat for him and presumably most of the christian right. The left/right nonsense shows exactly the level of debate that surrounded his life and death and is a sad state of affairs for the modern world. I wouldn't identify with either but I recognise ignorance when I see it. And there has been plenty evidenced in this thread, with a little bit of historic context to provide some covering fire. |

best kind of interviews are performance based ones and results and culture all seem to show he is consistently setting the right tone. could he continue at that level post 'interview'? I mean we all operate above ourselves in that kind of environment... but he has done enough to show he knows what to do so about then judging him to those high standards. of course for most fans that will mean winning, and I presume when we lost/drew a couple a few weeks back he was not the first choice ( I can't be bothered reading back through this thread but would assume that the case) and if we peter out now be the same? all said, football for the likes of us is a lottery, he's done more right than wrong, so for me, deserves the job, especially in the absence of any other obvious candidates, all of whom would need to come in and have 3-4 months settling time .. you don't get that time in football so Sheehan has already had that and can be then have the expectations to match. that's another thing, current expectations are free hit time, won't be the same come Aug presumably. |

assume the main aspect of due diligence will be running the names past the more vocal posters on this board to see if they pass muster and will get their support for the first cluster of games ;) |

makes a sad read this. we have been crying out for a structural solution ever since the ownership changed hands in the PL Sadly each structural solution, including managerial appointments associated with, are worse than the last. which is why whatever action happens next (yes, Williams will go for sure) will do no more than provide a possible stay of execution football clubs are so much forced to manage game to game and month to month, the better ones seem to extend that for a slightly longer period; since the last couple of years in the PL we have got progressively worse it feels. although do remind ourselves that on paper, last Summer, everyone felt it was a positive transfer window? So do we occasionally find the foundations, but still manage to implode? |
