Off the highlights that was much better than I had expected from the result alone. I said after Solihull Perry will do a job for us. That statement undersold him. He looks a real quality signing. We did it well I thought. Now looking to the future I expect the strongest side available to be out on Tuesday night. Manny D will probably only do 45 minutes, which needs to be the first half. But let’s have.no moaning if we are not winning when he is removed. With him slow and steady will reap the rewards. Southend set up beautifully against us in December and stopped our intent without stifling their own. We changed it up a half time and we’re better. So if Southend try and repeat the same trick on Tuesday we should already have the answers from lessons learned. As for York since Maynard took over I can’t say how many points they have dropped, but they have dropped 16 points from draws this season. I wouldn’t be surprised if our points per game tally is not any worse than their’s since the managerial change. Definitively this league title is still ours to loose. That’s not putting pressure on the players it’s a fact. There will be points won and lost from now on in but if we win 3, draw one and loose 1 of the five games against the top 8 clubs in the next month we will still be the team to beat. The is achievable. Let’s keep the positive vibe going. UTD |

Another hard fought game for Southend. They won’t have much of a turnaround before they are back up the A1 a second time in 3 days. They are now 15 points behind us, but there big incentive on Tuesday in that they have dropped out of the playoffs, albeit with games in hand. Boreham Wood losing back to back is so unusual for teams in the top 7. But it creates that distance between the top two and the rest. |

In the back of my mind I have the thought that Jim’s selections may manifest themselves by way of players not travelling for away games featuring prominently in the next home game. Now.there may be injuries at play here, but if I’m correct that would see Burger and Barlow being involved. So que an unchanged team! UTD |

Ironically McBride is one of the players that can hit a screamer, one in a home win earlier this season and the away win last year against Yeovil when he really ripped on to get a late winner. Where has that confidence gone? |

Bizarre. The sort of thing in the past you might have suspected to hear on a Dale commentary. |

What a strange game that was. I respect Millington’s book of work, but was surprised that given they sat 10th, we’re in decent form and in little fear of relegation, that they didn’t give it a go. The commentators refrain was no pressure on the ball. At least that result in less physical effort required by us. Although we did at least press them. We find ways to win and we did so again last night. The most games won and the least games played. Last night was demonstration of why that is. TVOS may correct me but that is now three opportunities to do the double over a team and three executed. It’s doesn’t sit comfortably with most Dale fans but we are the team to beat in this league, not York. Should neither Southend or FGR beat us at home I think they are both out of the running for automatic promotion. Beat Boring Wood, Scunthorpe and Carlisle would make us really difficult to catch. I’m getting a bit giddy now (one game at a time and all that). Thought Perry looked to have settled well last night. He will do a job for us. I do watch the BJ interviews, yesterday he used the word bravery 5 times in a six minute interview. Steady on Jim it’s only football. UTD |

Yesterday was just what we needed, win away, clean sheet, plenty of players getting game time, new arrivals slotting in very well and a win following a loss. I was surprised the Whatmuff is back. I honestly expected a recall and for him to be loaned out to a league club, ssshh. The last ten minutes of games in this league yesterday are an illustration of why I love this sport. Always something for fans to cling to. Now I know we have a lot of games on the horizon, but I would urge BJ to go with his strongest 11 available, and just mix the bench against Solihull. There will be better opportunities to change things up later on this hectic run of games. So far I am loving it. UTD |

Not a match I relish. Not all our players are match fit, even some who don’t have knocks have had limited match time this month. Gateshead have the prodigal son manager returning and a stack of new players. To balance that the main goal threat has departed. Would love a comfortable win, but will be happy with an ugly win. Just need to get back on track today. UTD |

I guess they may say Mane v Matheson has evened up their contribution to our coffers. Not that I am saying they should look unkindly on us in the loan market. They should still treat us favourably imo. Who knows though, business is business. [Post edited 9 Jan 17:23]

The Southend trust described our efforts to get the two games played as”unacceptable”. Called for the league to hold an inquiry about postponements. Together with a call for decisions on postponements to be made earlier. Living in Southend I wrote to the local paper rebutting their arguments and suggested they sounded like they were arguing for the league to split into Northern and Southern divisions. They really didn’t think things through. Which clubs would want there money being spent on an enquiry about postponements. |

Another game where we worked out how to win, despite the number of starters missing. We have been able to dig out MOREvictories than our competitors and the league reflects that. Some interesting games coming up in January. Bwood v York, Bwood v Scunny, Carlisle v York, Scunny v Forest Green. If the venture to Accrington treats us well it is possible that we may have a cushion going into our own difficult February. Keeping minding the business lads. UTD |

This was a statement win. Our opponents in this league would have known we fielded arguably only five of our starters, with some our normal finishers getting a start But such is the desire and efforts it made no difference. The spirit in this squad is excellent. I would have taken a draw when I saw the team sheet but that was as dominant in the first half as we have been for ages. A goal for Hendo would have made it a “Carlsberg” night. Momentum is so important in this game , and just when there could have been an air of that being stifled, we reinforce that momentum. Is it getting to the stage where the only thing that can stop us is ourselves? The table suggests it is and I am a believer. All credit to the club and of course the travelling fans. February will be tough but so is this team. UTD |

First met Appy at the Dale FA cup tie at Crystal Palace. Great fun on that day and even though I didn’t get the chance to see him often, he was just a friendly and amenable character whenever we met. I got told of his passing by 4 different people on Saturday. So many knew and liked him. Go bless Peter and condolences to the family. |

At half time I was the only inhabitant of Southend in the ground who was hoping the game would be called off. I said it would be and in the second half it became farcical in the Pearl St corner. Admittedly I stayed up in Rochdale for 2 nights for the first attempt at this fixture, but it has cost me £400 to see this game, so far. I’m frustrated but what happen was outside anyone’s control. On the game itself I thought Maher set Southend up really well they nullified us without stifling their own ambitions. I said that Jim and his colleagues have not had to give many half time team talks this season, when things have needed a shake up. Credit to them, the team were much better after the break and to my eye dominated it. Noticed Rodney wore the type of tape athletes use on his calf in the Eastleigh game, the injuries and fixtures are mounting up. What’s the saying about “when the going gets tough”? UTD |

Dale got a 30 minute look at Cardwell when we played FGR, which is useful for us. If Dallas has an ACL I presume he has gone back to Barnsley, is it? My brother in law is one of that “chunk” on the supports coaches. I hope it’s him rather than me who is disappointed with the result tomorrow, after a good contest of course. Safe journey for all tomorrow Shrimper. |

Agreed. Scott Morrison was there top scorer last season and got plenty of assists. Note this season he only has 3 goals and three assists so far. Maybe teams have got a handle on how to deal with him. |

Have a feeling this will be a tight game. They have scored four less than us and conceded 3 more, having played one more game. This game is really important for Southend, if they loose and go 14 points behind the top of the league having played a game more if think the playoffs would be their on avenue to get promotion. The local rag here has confirmed that the centre half Goodliffe has declared himself fit yesterday after 3 weeks out. I think he’ll start, but clearly won’t be match fit. The striker Kendall is likely to be in the match day squad for the first time since a hamstring injury September. I'll be shocked if he plays more than about an hour, even if he starts. Maher is suggesting that they are not sure if Dallas will be available (think he is keeping McNulty guessing) but a week to recover from a hamstring issue is very very quick. While Parllion and Appiah Forson are also doubts. They say if you stop the right wing back Scott Morrison you stop Southend. I asked my season ticket holder mate how best to do that with a blocker or an attacking wing back to subdue him. He suggested a blocker, but to be honest I’m not sure. That will be the key positional decision for Jim. They have not beaten a team above them this season. If we mind our business we should beat them. UTD |

Being an optimist we could really put a marker down for this league by the middle of February. |

Mani could get embroiled in a row at a church service. The player I wouldn’t take liberties with is Ollie Whatmuff, he wasted no time getting involved in a bye line altercation , which Kyron Gordon started In an earlier game this season. I also think you underestimated Gordon he can certainly mix it. Said in a thread a few weeks ago that Jason Taylor took no sh-t when he played for us and I think he has brought that into our dressing room. I really don’t want to win the fair play award this year and with this squad I don’t think we will. |
