5 Things About The Coventry Game
at 12:08 22 Dec 2025

On point 4. Having a drink with some Coventry fans in the hotel Saturday evening.
According to them, Lampard is benefitting from and taking credit for the good work done by his predecessor Mark Robbins.
They were bemused by his sacking and Lampard’s appointment but they were pleased that he’s introduced a bit of guile and niggle and banished the naivety. They weren’t proud of his post match behaviour though.
Decent folk to talk to, glad they’re doing well, they’ve suffered a lot of bad football luck.

Saints v Coventry
at 16:13 20 Dec 2025

Not clinical enough . Two one on ones in the first half not converted. Defence fast asleep again for their goal.
Disappointment but we were shut out second half after the goal, lots of cheating and time wasting going on. The ref gave us nowt.
No-one played badly but nobody took the chance to shine against league leaders Frank Lampard’s Coventry. What was he doing at the end? What a vag !
Two points dropped.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Christmas pub w*nkers, please think hard

Not so much a history lesson Tony, more of a rambling, roving story.
Merry Christmas to you too and all the rest of you Uglies.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Christmas pub w*nkers, please think hard
at 20:41 18 Dec 2025

Could it be anything to do with Sandi Toksvig, the Danish lezzer who presents it? Just speculating here.
Never been to Aarhus but ran for shelter from the storm into Esbjerg on the west coast of Jutland.
The pub was the Lord Nelson and Danish girls are very pretty. The Viking raiders must have abducted all the fittest babes.
Esbjerg was very proper and clean but there was an overpowering stench from the fish meal processing plant. Danish boats hoover up all the immature fish, no discrimination as to size or species, and turn them into fertiliser and pig fodder. Thoroughly disapprove of how they can get away with this.
The locals were great and the Carlsberg Elephant is “probably the best lager in the World.”

Used to get fully into “kickabouts” on the local recs , coats and jumpers for goal posts. Used to love all that as a nipper. Childhood imaginations of playing at the Dell and Wembley, scoring the winning goal, lifting that pot, the fame and adulation etc.
Never played for any local teams but played for every ship’s team during 15 years in the Merchant Navy.
The most memorable was against a Russian ship, moored on the other side of the dock in Napier, New Zealand. Two of them introduced themselves at the bottom of the gangway, no common language, but the gist of the conversation was something like, fancy a kick about?
All arranged for the following day.
It was a full on, no holds barred affair, no quarter given, none expected.
I was in goal. There was a 50/50 challenge on the half way line between our star player, a black lad, brought up in a Glasgow orphanage and one of the Russians. The sound of breaking bones could be heard echoing from the surrounding hills. Two hard cases crumpled in a heap on the grass. Our lad was ok, just winded. The Russian lay perfectly silent and still, a few beads of sweat on his forehead.
Rolling down his sock revealed his shin bone sticking out through his skin.
We called the ambulance to take him to the hospital but the commissar wouldn’t allow him to go, I guess in case he defected and asked for political asylum.
We won 8-7.
Yes Im a crap goalie😀

Do you now expect a top six season finish ?
at 21:45 15 Dec 2025

Not expectant or hopeful.
Is the squad is strong enough, either physically or mentally? Personally not convinced they would progress even if they finished in the top six.
Am frequently wrong though.

Have learned to stop being roped into dopey or political conversations.
It’s a football forum with a non football section for contributors who want to chat about non football topics. That’s brilliant.
Avoid getting personal, be nice, it’s Christmas brother and sister Saints and footie fans.

Seems like he has his own slot on Canal plus football club,( French tv channel).

Fortunately my French comprehension isn’t exactly stunning and if you don’t want to know the score, you can always look away, in the time honoured fashion .

Playing Out From The Back
at 08:58 15 Dec 2025

When a goal kick is to be taken and the centre back rolls it sideways to the goalkeeper has got to be the most irritating spectacle imaginable! Can anyone explain the point ? It used to happen all the time during Martin’s tenure. Sh1t grittingly frustrating it surely was.

World Cup through the years
at 19:59 14 Dec 2025

Never been to any.
Grainy, black and white telly images of 1966 are the earliest recollections.
Memorable matches involved England against Portugal, Argentina and West Germany in the final.
North Korea 3 Portugal 5, at Goodison Park was memorable. The crowd reaction to the goals was unbelievable, you would have thought the Koreans were playing at home.
A fanatical, football loving crowd.

Being a Saints supporter
at 19:58 12 Dec 2025

Born in Wigan, no football team in the football league at that time. It was all about rugby league.
Dad was an economic migrant and formative years were lived in Totton.
He wasn’t a football fan but he’s to blame for introducing his son to his first football match,
Saints v Pompey, season 63/63, the Dell, 4-2 win.
The atmosphere, the noise, the passion, the fanaticism, the aroma of bovril and condor ready rubbed, the thrill of watching the Saints come from behind to defeat their closest rivals.
Very evocative, very addictive.
