I wouldn’t expect anything different from The Spectator which is supportive of the Conservative Party and edited by Michael Gove.

We’ll have to wait to see how things pan out, maybe she and the Greens will be ok - maybe they won’t. I’m kind of leaning towards the latter, but she’ll be a change from the usual type of person we’ve had before as MP’s - the journalists, lawyers, political advisors, Union Repe, think tank employee, career politician etc etc.

And I dare say that the when the GE comes along, assuming Trump remains is as unpopular then as he is now, we’ll see the main stream media backing Badenoch and trying to do a job on Farage by publishing lots of pictures of him with the Trumpster etc. there’s a long long way to go, just look at Thatcher back in the 80’s.

House of Westminster renovations. Monopoly money
at 22:03 24 Feb 2026

The costs are truly horrendous, but given the nature of the the work and the skills the craftsmen require to do the work I’m not surprised it’s extortionate.

My take on things is that the building should be preserved and turned in to a museum. Madame Tussaud’s attracts 2.5m visitors each year and the minimum charge is £27, so we’re up to at least £67.5m. I’m sure more people would pay to see the Houses of Parliament, so pitch the price right, get the tourists in and use that money towards the running and renovation costs. Preserve the stone work, inside, furniture, etc, do what needs to be done but that’s it. Have organised tours etc etc, but we should forget about running data cabling, and all the other stuff. Build a new parliament nearby and future proof it.

Death of the Town Centre
at 18:01 24 Feb 2026

Terrible news, there’s not much now in the City centre it’ll be grim when M&S goes - just look at Llanelli.

Councils and the government need to stop treating the High Street as a cash cow, business rates for small and medium size shops need to be much lower and the sheds where the massive online retailers operate need to go up a little.

Probably because the police had to assess and review the evidence they had available to them and then decide who exactly would deal with it and then pull it all together, staff etc etc etc. Prince Andrew was busted by Thames Valley Police when most would have thought it would have been the Met.

Reports out there that Mandelson has been lifted, that’s a positive development.

More positive action over here than in some places I could mention!!!! Sends out a good message.

Agreed.

Part of the Central District motion makes reference to “seeing the books” - that’s key and it’s essential to know where the money is being spent and what the “waste” is.

Much much better performance from Wales, but there’s a long way to go. I thought Scotland were the better team, but they butchered quite a few chances and put themselves under pressure.

Didn’t see the Ireland result coming, could be a long afternoon in Dublin if we don’t perform to our best.

Trump rubbishes Chagos deal
at 22:20 20 Feb 2026

Reports are emerging that Truss and Boris have been lobbying Trump re the Chagos deal. It’s reported Truss was given a briefing note and raised it during her visit to Mar a Lago last weekend.

Truss started the initial negotiations which continued under Sunak and eventually finalised by Starmer, it’s being reported by some that Boris first suggested the return of the islands and asked Truss to sort it. What a mess.

It’s neither, he’s been released under investigation (RUI). It’s a relatively new concept having been introduced in 2017/2018 by the then Conservative government as part of the Bail Act changes. In short, the legislation introduced a “default position” which required the police to release suspects from Custody without bail unless there were exceptional circumstances e.g risk of harm to victims etc. The expectation was that suspects would be released and subsequently served with a summons through the post!

As you can imagine it turned out to be a bit of a cluster @@@@. Some of the Bail Act changes were reversed in subsequent years, but RUI remains an option to deal with some suspects.

I was thinking that too.

If AMW can be busted for misconduct in public office then based on what we’re hearing so should Mandelson.

It makes you think what else is in the files that haven’t been released.

2026 Unemployment

Incorrect.
Actual Annual Leave entitlements are based on contracted hours, however payment should be based on average earnings including overtime, but that’s not always clear cut.

2026 Unemployment

In relation to the second point, quite a few employers (including Tesco) now employ staff on part time contracts for example 4 hours per day but actually require the staff to work “compulsory overtime” in some cases up to and beyond 37.5 hours a week. This means if the staff report sick etc they only get paid their contracted hours, it also makes getting a mortgage more difficult as the contracted hours income etc is so low. Annual Leave payments will also be reduced in comparison to a full time worker.
Part time work suits some, as do zero hour contracts, but there are also potentially massive pitfalls.

There are good and bad employers out there.

Fair point.

I watch a fair bit of Super Rugby Cymru which is the level below the Regional game. The tournament was created 2 seasons ago and the focus is supposed to be on developing younger players (from academies and fringe players etc) so that they can make the step up to the Regional game. The clubs in the Ospreys region embraced the concept and have squads packed with youngsters, unfortunately that’s not the case across the board.
Aberavon, Swansea and Bridgend have all had a few tough seasons but that’s to be expected when you’ve got teams of youngsters playing against teams of old heads and teams consolidated with full time professionals. Swansea have by far the lions share of Ospreys youngsters and players, Bridgend and Aberavon have around 5 each.

Instead of mandating that match squads have fixed numbers for of younger players, a ceiling on the number of professionals in a team etc etc there’s no guidance or restrictions whatsoever, so we’re seeing mismatches where teams of youngsters are getting hammered by teams of old heads - how is that developing younger players? By all means have a blended approach where younger players are exposed to old heads, but it has to be balanced.

I genuinely believe that a having a Reddin type character in charge of performance is sensible, but that person needs to have a direct input and be able to influence individual performance at the Regions. Budgets are an issue, but I think one of the reasons the Welsh performance has been so poor is because of the level of coaching in our Regional game. If we had top top coaches at the Regions driving up standards, the players would perform better at that level and that would transfer to the international stage.

That depends on what time the run takes place.

Most of the nurses, health care staff start at 7am, doctors and consultants at 9am. If you run at 10 am you won’t see anyone bar patients.

I’m all in favour of offenders being brought to justice.

Maybe when Musk is thinking about funding proceedings about bringing people to justice he could donate some of his substantial resources to bring to justice some of the Epstein offenders in the US.

The Scarlets draw a lot of support from Gorseinon, Lougher, Pontardulais, and parts of the Gower which are all in her constituency. That said, she should be putting some real pressure on the WRU because there’s people up there who imho need to be booted out.
