Not seen any of the league season live , until this evening when I get home from the hospital to put the tv on and within 4 seconds Cardiff score. It took me another second hand a half to turn it off again .
Calamity avoided.

Hope this brief but important message of thanks doesn’t get to lost on this thread, but thank you from the very bottom of my heart for every single post on here and to those who sent me private messages also.
I can’t explain what it meant to me earlier reading them all and you proved me right that this board is more than just football chit chat .
It’s a place of community and togetherness when it’s at its best .
I wept at some and took mental notes from others but thank you.
Ted and Ned. You guys are so strong . I’ve took strength from lots of posts , but yours in particular.
Thank you both for sharing and I’m with you both .
Please message me if you need anything at all .
I am truly humbled and my wife would be humbled and a little embarrassed.
As I write this I am full of angst and nerves.
She was supposed to have awoken this morning but as it stands she is still unconscious.
We know that the longer she is ‘asleep’ the worse the news will be.
So I pray I get a call in the morning that she is awake in some way.
She has to .
She just has to .

Monday the 10th August was supposed to be a new adventure and an exciting new chapter in my family’s life. After a whole summer of huge stress looking for a new place to rent and having no joy due to legislation that came in on May 1st that was supposed to help renters , but actually crippled us and our individual financial situation, we had finally found somewhere to call home .
This was turned on its head whilst loading the 3rd van load of stuff from old flat to new, when my beautiful wife had a catastrophic stroke.
It’s hard to describe that feeling of helplessness and terror that you feel when this happens to a loved one and hard to comprehend the terror they must be feeling .
It was a major bleed on the brain. But when we went in on Tuesday to see her in the acute stroke unit. She greeted us with a smile and asked “I’ve been waiting for you, where have you been?”
She had no movement in her left arm and her speech was mumbled and quiet but you could just about understand her.
I left on Tuesday feeling happier and upbeat that she will be ok.
When we arrived Wednesday she was completely different.
She barely acknowledged us . She couldn’t open her eyes .
She remained asleep .
Yesterday morning I was called to the hospital urgently.
She’d had another stroke, this time a blood clot .
She was rushed to Charing Cross to have life saving surgery .
We got to see her briefly late last night as she was placed in an induced coma.
Next week will be her 49th birthday .
This post isn’t about sympathy. It’s mainly about 3 things.
Firstly , myself, my step daughter and my wife’s mother have a large support unit of wonderful family and friends . But somehow writing things down to me is therapeutic and lets me get some of this out of me in a way that I can’t explain . I don’t really do social media . Odd Instagram post but I’ve given up on it really. So this board and network feels like a sort of home to me .
Which leads me to point 2.
Life is more important than bickering about Nourry, Sir Les, Mbengue, Paul Smyth or whoever .
It just doesn’t matter on the grand scale of things . We all share different views so don’t get to irate and angry with each other .
On the flip side , this club really really important to some people . Rangers are a lifeblood to many .
So , if this IS your passion then we should all try to understand that too . This is a great board full of insight and different people, spearheaded by one of the best football writers in the land .
Apparently it’s taken some pot shots from other people recently.
Defend this board . It’s played an important role in all our lives to some degree .
And lastly , I need to learn and start gathering info on how on Earth I come to terms with what’s happened and the future , whatever that is , that lies ahead for us as a family .
The process of trying to help the paralysis on her left side is now secondary. It’s now about keeping her alive . Some of you must have gone through similar or know people who have, so any advice or knowledge that can be passed over will be a lot of help to me . I’ll be given leaflets and phone numbers , I know . But hearing real accounts , however good or bad will help just as much to how I go forward . DM me if you’d rather .
I will check later to see if there have been any advice given in reply to this but I’m not really thinking about Rangers right now.
Late last night as I trudged sorrowfully around Sainsburys, buying stuff just for myself which in itself broke my heart , a guy stopped me (I had a QPR top on of sorts) and he wanted to talk about last Saturday. I politely explained that I was busy preparing to move home so didn’t go and briefly told him what happened since .
This guy stood and chatted to me about his own health issues , how he knows what I’m going through and offering a hand of friendship he offered to be there if I needed him.
Never met him before . But our link was this wonderful club .
That’s the bond . So have opinions and have them with passion , but never forgot that we are in this together. QPR fans .
So thanks Eddie. You gave me hope when I felt like I had none .

Great post.
As far as I understand and I could be wrong of course , the move to Wycombe was a permanent deal and not a loan .
That puts a slightly different perspective (if true) on both his stance and the clubs.
The club saw a fee and although not likely to be a huge amount , would see pure profit and sell on clauses etc .
From Rayan’s point of view he might of actually preferred a loan rather than potentially consigning himself to league one football. Might doing the heavy lifting of course.
Thats pure conjecture on my part but if even slightly true it’s a slightly narrow minded view on his part . By all accounts , the lad backs himself so he should back himself to be a success in League 1 and make people sit up and take notice .
As others have said it’s all a bit tiresome now and there is no doubt that those in charge have taken a dislike to him for whatever reason long before this summer.
But if Rayan isn’t careful then his career will have passed him by in a blink of an eye. Just go and play , whether it’s for us , who he loves dearly or for someone else . |

You’ve got your camp Carry on actors mixed up . Charles Hawtrey and Kenneth Williams I think 😀.
Not quite as pessimistic as yourself but we do still have a physicality issue . Although Millwall are a big strong side.
Been reading glowing this that and the others about Burrell and Kone all summer.
Made me nervous .
They are relatively inexperienced with so much to learn and improve on . I just think maybe some fans are expecting too much from them maybe? Not sure if that’s correct but I do see a lot wrong with both their games, not just today but in general . Thought the same last season but largely kept it to myself.
Hard to really judge (on my part) Burrell when playing out of position too.
I don’t know . Just not sure.
Kone looked slow and heavy again but also very hard to win the physical or aerial battle against those 2 freaks today . |

Both agree and disagree with this .
His distribution is very good isn’t it . Huge upgrade .
However, I also lost count of the times he lumped it straight to the head of the 2 biggest centre backs in the division. When did this fixture get announced, June?
Thats where I worry about Stefan . We did try to play , but when we recycled and recycled some more , we pumped it long to those 2 giants. Realise it’s not easy but no one said it would be .
Can’t we come up with something better?
Also, to be fair to Charles , he didn’t fumble it unless I’m mistaken. his momentum was taking him and the ball back over the goal line so he dropped it down , which he’ll learn from .
Next time he’ll take his chances I think and won’t do that .
I worry he’ll be targeted as he is no physical presence at all. [Post edited 8 Aug 17:44]

Wonderful original post and thread that’s followed .
Selfishly, it warms my heart a bit to read that others don’t remember their first game .
I have no idea about what was my first game and it always made me slightly sad when others could recall theirs.
I was ridiculously young when my father started taking me, only something like 18 months old(??!?), so a guess is around 1976 or perhaps 1977, but like the original poster he must be now starting something close to his 70th year following the Rangers having just turned 77 last week. I know he went as very young child with his father who was a Southampton fan but married my grandmother who already lived in Netherwood Road , Shepherds Bush.
I don’t think I’ve ever asked him if he remembers his first game.
I will do so later today. |

All about the ‘marginal gains’ though . Let’s keep Millwall guessing so they all lose sleep and lose their minds not knowing if Nico is fit or not .
On a more serious note , did I miss it, if so apologies , but where is Tylon Smith?
He didn’t go to Austria did he ?
Did he play for the dev squad Saturday?
Strange if so.

I really like the shape of the side in that first half .
Admittedly the opposition weren’t up to speed yet but we played some really nice stuff at times .
Concerned watching Madsen punch the floor in frustration when he went down .
Kone and maybe even moreso Madsen are vital to how we want to play .
Really hope both of them aren’t to badly hurt, obviously |

Got to admit that they really seemed to look his way and decide to give him a miss on multiple occasions. He didn’t really demand the ball either. Seemed not to really want it .
Maybe not the case but it really looked that way .
Other miscellaneous stuff:
I thought the shape of the side in that first hour was really good. Vale and Chair tucked in and playing nice triangles , albeit against side clearly behind us in their pre season preparations.
Charles looked decent .
Fitness looks much better than a year ago .
Still look injury prone though and Kone especially looks like he’s hurt himself quite badly .
Plenty of players limping around and picking up knocks . Early days but conditioning as well as fitness will have to improve too or they’ll all be laid up again.
Unfair on the 9/10 that came on all at once. I understand why, you want the first IX playing together predominantly but can’t really criticise the ‘second string’ all being thrown in together .
Pitch looks better than it has done for a long while.
New ‘whiteout’ shirt looks like a normal rangers shirt being worn inside out .
Horrible .
No Saito? Anyone know why ?
if Kone’s injury is a nasty one , would surely mean a striker would have to come in .
Edit- took the RK bit out as some don’t like it .
I understand why . Wasn’t my intention for it to go all ‘Obikwu’.
