My best memory of this being sung was at Hartlepool on something like 2nd January 87 or 88.
We went up on a bus from the Lamb and Flag in Morriston that for god knows what reason left at midnight. We got to H’pool at 8am!!! Anyone else on that trip here?
Freezing cold day but locals wandering about in vests and tee-shirts! Couldn’t wait for the pub by the ground to open just to get warm. Then 2 hours on a freezing open terrace with lovely views of the North Sea :-)
We sort of did back in the 80s didn’t we? Maybe not administration but a similar thing - IVA maybe where debtors got a percentage of what was owed? It was before points deductions though.
I remember a group of Chelsea fans getting a kicking on the NB on the day we beat them 3-0 in 79/80. I watched as the police took them out along the walkway at the front looking a bit bloodied. One of them (a full on punk with all the safety pins, etc) in a right state. We met some Chelsea fans on holiday many many years later who were actually at that game and recalled getting a kicking up at the railway station on their way home after the old “got the time mate” trick.
Fair play to Fisher. I still blame him for their goal - he should have been coming for that and catching or punching it. But aside from that he did well in open play and the pen save.
What an absolutely wonderful heartfelt tribute. I think most of us following our beloved club through the thick and (mostly) thin 1970s had no idea what went on behind the scenes. We just saw the glitz and glamour (ha !!) of match days while the unseen work that went on to deliver those moments went on unnoticed. RIP Mr Daniels. I hope the team can deliver a performance on Saturday to make you smile.
I’ve often wondered whether the large tunnel areas could be filled in (3 of them anyway) even with some form of temporary seating that could be wheeled in or out. They do seem like a a bit of a waste of seating space.
A great weekend. Drove up with 3 mates on the morning of the game. Stayed at what was then The Reebok. Went on the pitch after the game and thought what the hell was happening with WG. Then into Yates in the town centre when GMP were trying their hardest to start a riot. We cleared off before the inevitable happened. On the Sunday morning we went down for breakfast. London Broncos were playing at the stadium later that day. Waitress asked “are you with the Broncos?”. Yes we replied before being ushered to the most fantastic breakfast buffet. When the players started arriving and found us tucking into their grub they were luckily amused, especially after we told them why we were there!
