Mani was named captain today but looked completely disinterested. He's decent enough as a no 9 in this league IMO. This was the most worrying thing today. |

Said hello to EEL in the carpark before the game and he looked distant and unhappy, which was an indicator for the rest of the day - there's a clear disconnect generally, with Mani being a shadow of himself (despite being named captain) and a clear lack of effort and buying into whatever the plan is, maginfied by the 4th goal. Then we saw subs being prepared and stripped but standing for ages in the dugout before finally coming on. It all looked very clueless resulting in getting our bellies tickled at home by an average team. There's enough quality in the squad. |

Have sympathy with him regarding injuries but significantly changing the formation and personnel from game to game projects that he has no plan or idea what he's doing. He's got it all to prove in the next 2 games. |

Not one for knee jerk reactions and we're only 2 league games in but it all feels quite clueless and factoring in all of pre-seaaon it's been 2 or 3 goals shipped each time, no wins in 90 mins and now 2 defeats to relegation favourites. Wonder if the Board have the available Maynard in the back of their minds. |

Will be interesting to see if IW changes it - I think this type of setup, either a 352 or 343, would suit the players we have much better than today's formation, and could be seen as a way to recapture and continue the control and belief we had last season. Using 3 CBs with wingbacks makes it easier to play out from the back, and also to defend, particularly when there's no pace in the middle. You could understand it if we were adopting a more direct style but it's basically a continuation of the same philosophy although with a system that makes it harder to implement.
We've landed in game 1 with zero/backwards momentum from last season which can't all be blamed on a higher league and a few players leaving or being injured - the tactical approach has looked dodgy all pre-season and you wonder whether the players are buying into it. York, with all that's happened in the last 3 weeks or so and a more recent new manager hit the ground running today and beat promotion favourites while we were comfortably beaten by relegation favourites. Remember Robbie Savage saying last season that it was tough playing us as we were 2-3 years into a project with a system that worked and a team that gelled. Hopefully it's too early to say that's been undone but the signs aren't good - minimum 2 goals conceded every game in the last month culminating in schoolboy defending and no shots on target today. |

Hope we're looking at Callum Roberts, would make a good front 3 with Mani and Dev. Also thought Thorpe was good when we played Braintree. |

Interesting that Jim saw him as a wingback, if he'd envisaged him as an inside forward in the Rodney/Barlow position it might have been different. Surely he could have wreaked havoc in that role. |

Wouldn't blame the fans although obviously preferable if they stay put - natural reaction near the end of stoppage time that would have happened in most grounds. The goal celebration would have added on more time as with our game last Sat, plus the waiting time allowed us to reset and focus as much as it did York. We just couldn't see it out sadly. |

Really tough to take but if we can focus on what was good - the desire, commitment and resilience for the most part, we can win the playoffs. Monday morning training will be all about forgetting today. |

Haven't seen the goal yet but Barca and Lewandowski in particular scored similar sounding finishes vs Newcastle. Class players stay composed in those moments and look like they have all the time in the world. |

Factoring in the possibility of getting sent off pushes it up a bit - still 1-2% chance but don't think it's worth the risk and certainly not in the playoffs or a showdown v York last game. |

There was a similar incident when we played Spurs in the cup replay a few years ago when Son took a penalty for them - think he stopped near the end of his run up and the ref gave us a free kick, and if I remember rightly, booked Son. Not sure if he touched the ball or not. |

I'd be looking at bringing in more cover for the no 9 position - Mani's just coming back, Hendo's 41 and from I've seen of Duku, he's somewhat below the standard of our squad (obviously I'd love it if he proved me wrong). Maybe could consider loaning a young striker from a higher league who'd benefit from some time spent here. |

Agree and some time for perspective - Hartlepool were excellent first half, we were playing in an unfamiiliar 'home' with a depleted squad and we're one point off top at the end of the year with two games in hand and got more than 50 points before the halfway mark. It's been a great first half of the season. Also the pitch is getting sorted, we'll be back at home next month and Mani and Whatmuff should be back soon. And at least tonight we showed we can change formation and tactics when required and played like the home team in the last 20 mins - something to take into the next game. |

Agree, Burger is developing into a gem of a player - so bright and energetic, quality on the ball. If he improves his finishing he will play at a higher level. |
