I ran it in 2019, I'd highly recommend going to the Opening Ceremony on the Friday night if you're around, its the closest you'll ever feel to being part of an Olympic Games without being an actual Olympian.
Marathon day itself is a bloody long day, I'd done over 10,000 steps before I'd even crossed the start line! My own race fell apart a bit in the second half which is really tough (the first half is mostly downhill so be mindful not to get carried away) and the last 5k of undulation through Central Park is just brutal.
That said, its an amazing experience and I'm glad I did it. Best of luck to your wife! |

I had 10 minutes spare last night so ended up watching some SPL highlights on iPlayer.
Cute assist for Dan Bennie for Dundee Utd at the weekend as they won 3-0 at St Mirren.
He also got sent off in the first half, which was then downgraded to a yellow by VAR (which was correct, it was an utterly ridiculous ref decision to issue a red to start with).
Plenty of VAR action in that game, a penalty, red card, and goal all overturned. |

Without a shadow of a doubt the best player I've ever seen play for QPR, and that 2010/11 team was the best QPR team I've ever seen with my own eyes.
I made 33 games that season, I only missed three from New Year's Day onwards (Norwich away, Millwall away, Middlesbrough away). The most I've ever done in a year and by the end, as silly as it sounds, the success of it felt as much my success as the team's as I'd seen so much of it. No regrets on the money or time it cost.
Its just such a shame, from Adel's perspective, he didn't have the career he should have done. Its natural from a QPR perspective to compare him to Ebere Eze a decade later. I loved Eze too, but Adel was just that extra bit special, but when it comes down to it Eze is going to have had the more successful career (and actually given Eze has now won the FA Cup, Premier League, and has a World Cup bronze medal already has had a more successful career) because Ebere's had the better work ethic that Adel needed to get to that next level.
But man, what a time to be a QPR fan. |

We Live and Die in These Towns was a proper song by a proper band though in the indie noughties by The Enemy, who were from Coventry, and are Coventry fans, very much like London Calling is to us.
Same way Kasabian tunes get a lot of airplay at Leicester City, it works when they are proper songs in their own right (whether you like the song is a separate matter, its not been written to shoehorn into football).
That song is just atrocious.
For what its worth, I do miss the Pompeii videos.
Dean's poem is far better, but it needs good music to accompany it. |

The back and forth transfers between Villa and Chelsea are certainly suspicious.
It used to be done in Serie A years ago, the two Milan teams were notorious for transferring squad players between themselves for inflated values as those values helped them meet the financial requirements to keep their sporting licence active. They weren't the only two, quite a lot of clubs all got done for it in the end.

My first ever football match was in the autumn of 1995 when I would have been 6. I remember I used to play football every playtime at school and was playing in the garden one night after school when my Dad came in and asked if I wanted to go and see a real football game.
Excitedly yes was the answer, and as we lived in Wellingborough he took me on the short trip down the A45 to watch Rushden & Diamonds in a FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round replay against Purfleet. It was peak-Griggs/Dr Martens era at Rushden when they outspent everyone by miles but you don't really understand that as a 6 year old, all you know is there's this team down the road that seems to thrash everyone else every week. They won 3-1 that night with ex-QPR trainee Graham Benstead in goal (not that I had a clue he was ex-QPR then).
Things I remember being confused by:-
- No names on back of shirts like the footballers I'd see on Match of the Day
- No match commentary
- I thought a matchday programme would take the form a video
I obviously loved it enough that my Dad started to take me to Rushden & Diamonds more regularly before taking me to my first QPR game in the April of that year when we beat Southampton 3-0. He only used to take me to one QPR game a year at that age as apparently I was a bit overwhelmed by the crowds.
We were at Wolves the following season when Dichio scored from miles out (have no memory of this whatsoever), that was my first ever QPR away game.
I used to cry when QPR lost but I soon got used to that, sadly.
She's only 16 months at the minute so far too young but am hoping I'll get times and moments like these with my own daughter when she's a bit older. Perhaps following in my footsteps I'll start her off with Harborough Town before making the leap to Loftus Road! |

You can't cross the halfway line as we got pulled up for this at the start of the second when the ref blew and one of our players (Poku I think) started charging into the oppo half before the ball had even been kicked, so we got pulled back to start again.
Once the ball is touched, then you can move. My guess is the clock starts on the whistle, play starts when the ball is touched. |

Speaking of ticketing, I saw the ticket exchange email come out yesterday suggesting the balance from resold tickets this year will only be available to use against next year's season tickets, rather than withdrawable at the end of the season?
In the same email they then say they're looking at changing the platform to make faster withdrawals available, so a bit of a contradiction! |

I like Kolli and his potential but successive managers haven't picked him regularly and there has to be reasons behind it.
Forget being chewed out by Ben in the canteen or the higher ups disliking him...if he was regularly good enough and delivering on the pitch all of that would be forgotten about, this is a cynical sport after all and performances on the pitch dictate everything. The fact he's not...
I suspect he'll be gone for good this time and then we'll see whether we've lost something special, or got ourselves a deal for someone who will never quite get to the level expected. |

I did my 365th run yesterday, doing a new one that's just started in South Leicestershire which is my 34th location. I've done Parkruns in the US and Canada (minus 12 when I ran the Canadian one in November 2019, but because Canada is a proper country the paths were completely clear of snow and ice), as well as one in Scotland at Holyrood (horrendous first mile, brilliant third mile).
For anyone posting on this who is a parkrunner, come join QPR Runners on Facebook and/or Strava if you haven't already. We even have our own kit you can buy, a home blue & white hooped version or away red & black hooped. I'm not on Strava and I don't post / view Facebook anywhere near as much anymore but I try to keep in touch with it when I can. Met a few folk from it over the years.
I like to come down to do Scrubs when we have lunchtime kickoffs, travelling from the East Mids its the only real way I'd get to do a parkrun still on a Saturday with an early home fixture. Watford in December this year for me which will be interesting as I've never ran the Scrubs in winter, I'm led to believe it can be quite the mudfest! |

Obviously not as easy in real life but I remember in some old Football Manager games you could pad out your reserve squad with cheap young players that were fairly easy to then sell after a year or two with sell on clauses to bolster your transfer funds for the main squad. |
