But, whilst there were improvements (formation with 2*10s & Gilmour sitting) on another day we lose that 2-3.
Ramming is bad for my cholesterol & I'd have swopped Wilson & Moss. Thought Brown pressed hard and made some good breaks (more than Diesuruvwe) and Middleton with effective crosses all game & some good covering of Moss. Adeeko & Taylor seem a good partnership - Adeeko was excellent again & Gilmour had his most effective game this season.,
Thought Smith less so and seemed to be complaining a lot. Flint (after 4 misplaced passes/headers) grew into the game but big congratulations to Tasker (bar one failed dribble) - defended strongly, confident and made some good forward runs.
Subs wee well timed though I'd have changed Smith at HT. Agree that Oldham ran out of ideas & surprisingly we looked stronger in the 2nd half

I presume that's not the Hayes who jogged around for 15 mins of the 1-4 defeat. The vast majority of the players can be castigated for large parts of their performances this season (that's why we have the crisis) but I thought ZSD has been as effective in attack as anyone else? |

But they weren't grouped together because the MC began with questions from the floor which by definition were unknown. The opening Panel statements were very welcome general Club policies and less welcome attempted mitigations for the disastrous start to the Season but Head Coach decisions weren't covered.
Better would be to use the previously submitted questions to group a series of topics, put them and request follow up questions from the floor - so that there is a dialogue instead of platitudes and deflection. The Message Board would also provide topic areas - all the key questions about the playing side had been covered in the recent podcast. New topics could also be taken from the floor but not in 30 minutes!
I will submit my 4 questions which were not put but the point is somewhat lost if the answers are not face to face in person to the assembled fans.
The comment about the Trust having a representative on the panel is well made - surely Vince would have known the submitted questions and could/should have raised them himself? [Post edited 12 Sep 15:27]

Possibly though I suspect SG would have deflected that question too, DA.
Interestingly one of the questions I'd submitted via the Trust to IW was "If you again get appointed during a pre-season to a newly promoted side what lessons will you bring from your Rochdale experience?" - unfortunately that also wasn't asked. |

not for the first time SG's response had a defensiveness about it, almost echoing posters on here who feel McNulty 'betrayed' their trust by taking another job.
Equally we got clear confirmation that IW is not a continuity appointment (from his own lips) despite SG's contrary claim on his appointment. [Post edited 12 Sep 10:27]

It's becoming increasingly clearer that Yorks' 2025/6 squad was much more EFL ready than ours in terms of age and length of EFL experience of their core members. That's down to McNulty and the Board but Watson has added to that with so many loans and the lack of emphasis on signing experienced, fit defenders. |

The 'baffling' decision to replace him with ZSD & move Moss to CB where many of us have wanted him to play (& Taylor to LB) turned out to be an answer to our previous lack of attacking threat - lucky generals are always better than good ones.
Agree with others about the effectiveness of Adeeko & Taylor and the fans but also as iW said post match the drive and lack of anxiety is what changed most - Moss first touch was an attacking run from LWB.
Certainly swallows and summers etc... on another night Shrewsbury score their 3 great chances... but so much better and a chance on Saturday to prove it wasn't a fluke.
IW certainly can't complain about any lack of financial support from the owners - anyone know when we last bought more players in a season? [Post edited 2 Sep 10:09]

Absolutely - he took over a squad who'd won 106 points; replace the losses (Perry was covered by Beckwith) so Gordon (who was the attacking fulcrum and the one player at higher than EFL2 level) and a good keeper were the priorities but none of his 9 outfield signings cover Gordon. Keep the current system which was built to accommodate the squad's strengths and, more importantly, their weaknesses. Then give them a chance to prove they could cut it in EFL2 and make the changes to your preferred system over the season and 2+ transfer windows.

more difficult to justify is the decision to impose a new formation in a shortened pre-season with limited managerial experience and a squad unproven @ EFL2 |

Did IW actually say the formation change against Crawley wasn't significant cos. our formation changes throughout every game? If it isn't significant it should have been or maybe uncertainty is the result on the touchline and the pitch? |
