Why Are The French Ignoring Morgan Schneiderlin
Thursday, 10th Oct 2013 10:30

Last season Morgan Schneiderlin was the unanimous winner of all the Saints player of the year awards, but this doesn't seem to have cut any ice with Didier Deschamps.

In 2012/13 Morgan Schneiderlin was considered one of the most consistent players in the Premier League, this season he has started pretty much in the same vein, but despite starring in one of the toughest leagues in the World, he seems no nearer earning his first full International cap for France.

Its not as if the French side are excelling, although in fairness to them being in the same groups as Spain is not helping, as it stands the French are on equal points with Spain 14 having played 7 games, one more than the Spaniards, however with only one game left for Didier Deschamps side, it looks like a win in that wont be good enough to see them overtake Spain and gain automatic qualification for the finals in Brazil and that they will have to undergo the lottery of the play offs.

Despite this, for some reason Deschamps has continued to overlook Morgan and not even pick him for a squad to run the rule over him, given that the French face Australia in a friendly on Friday in a game that they will want to rest their main players ahead of the final group game against Finland on Tuesday, it seems the French boss is missing a trick.

Certainly it seems that their isn't a lot more that Schneiderlin can do to attract the eye of his International manager, a starring role for Saints along with his name being linked with the likes of Arsenal doesn't seem to have impressed Deschamps who continues to ignore him.

Schneiderlin has been capped by his Country at every single level up to U21, however that first call up to the full squad has so far eluded him.

It seems now that he will continue to be ignored and wont be able to break into the squad before the trip to Brazil assuming that the French qualify, Deschamps will probably stick with the tried and trusted in a play off situation meaning that all Morgam can hope for is that perhaps Les Bleus boss will give him a run out in one of the friendlies leading up to the World Cup.

Barring streaking naked down the Champs Elysses or parascending down the Eiffel Tower, its hard to see what more Morgan can do to bring himself to the attention of Deschamps, but perhaps Saints might reap the benefits as Morgan continues to put in some sterling performances in the Premier League in the hope that he might get that call up and be hopefully joining at least one of his teammates on boarding a flight to Brazil and a place in the World Cup Finals.

Streaking naked . . . are there other ways of streaking then? 😊

Actually Spiderman has been here long enough to qualify for England - wouldn't it be hilarious if he got picked of Jack Wilshere!

That England call is a great shout. He's the best central midfielder in the country.. If he is eligible then why not?!

He is better and less injury-prone than Jack Wilshere, who should think before he speaks. France are missing out on Morgan. Many players born outside England have played for the England national team.
There are many players now that are able to choose which country they want to represent - our very own Matt le Tissier had that choice and chose England. Our very own Dani Osvaldo is actually Argentinian by birth but plays for Italy.
I can't think why in the world Morgan would want to play for England, and I hope he gets the France call-up he deserves - but would certainly welcome him into the England side!
This is all Januzaj's fault for starting this debate about naturalised footballers. Two goals away to Sunderland - so what?

Forgot to add - one of Jay Rodriguez's parents is Spanish - how would people feel about Spain coming along and poaching him?

He'd have been nationalised if he played for Man Utd. You only need one good game to get the ball rolling..

LJCmx you seem to be missing a few brain cells but don't worry that is normal for lefty PC correct morons. Players that were born outside the country and played for England in the past have 1. lived in the country for most of heir lives or 2. have English ancestry which is acceptable, what is not acceptable is some adult turning up and joining the England team willy nilly because they'll increase their value and bank account though apart from turning up on our shores they have no connection with England. Let's support OUR youngsters and not whore ourselves out for medals, have some pride 'MAN' and i use the term loosely

truthfulsaint - I think I have touched a nerve. It takes a moron to know one but then again I wouldn't judge you as I don't know you. Let's leave this kind of argument to the Daily Echo forum, shall we?
I think you fail to see this could be a sign of things to come!

Truthful and LJC I think you're both missing the point somewhat. As I understand it given Morgan has represented France he isnt eligable to play for any other nation. The option to play for a country you've lived in for 5+ years is only open to those that havent previosuly represented a country, I believe this is why Januzaj is eligable for England.....or to a lesser extent why JayRod could play for Spain :-)

From a Saints perspective Im glad Morgan doesnt play for France, it means he can rest during International period rather than risk injury and is less likely to catch the eye of other managers too. I'm sure he'd quite enjoy it though.
