Tadic Close To A Move To Ajax Thursday, 21st Jun 2018 10:14 Report are suggesting that Dusan Tadic may be leaving St Mary's soon for a return to Holland.
Dusan Tadic could be about to join Dutch giants Ajax according to media reports in the Netherlands, De Telegraaf is reporting that Ajax have agreed personal terms with Tadic over a four-year deal at the Amsterdam Arena.
Their understanding that directors Marc Overmars and Joroen Slop both flew to Southampton to discuss a move to the Dutch capital with Tadic and the transfer could now be completed within a couple of days, although with Tadic currenly in Russia with the Serbian squad that might be a little off the mark.
The report also states that Saints have agreed a £15 million pound fee for Tadic who will turn 30 in November.
This would represent a club record fee for Ajax perhaps highlighting the difference between the Eridivisie and the Premier League in terms of money.
Dusan Tadic has had his detractors amongst the Saints support, but in the main he has represented good value for money in his four seasons since his £10 .9 million arrival from FC Twente , he has played in 134 out of the 152 games in the Premier League that he could have appeared in and scored 20 goals, overall he played 162 games for the club scoring 23 goals.
That is a decent record and a bargain at the price and probably about the right time to move him on at a profit as he approaches his 30th birthday.
If & when he does go he should leave with the best wishes of all Saints fans for the contribution he has made to the club's success over these four seasons, including some good contributions to help save the club from relegation in the season just gone.

At the start of the week I saw Tadic and Maddison fighting for the number 10 slot and now it looks like we will have neither by the end of the week. I just hope there is a very good replacement lined up

I'd be really sorry to see Tadic go, I thought he was keen to stay. But as you point out, at 30 years old, this represents good business.

Seems like we are all in agreement. Many will be sorry to see him go, but at 30 he may already have played his best games . He knows the Dutch league, and as it's a tad below the Prem. level he should do well. Overall, he has provided some good entertainment, although he does have spells where he drifts in / out of games and sometimes it's easy to forget he's actually on the pitch. As Nick mentioned ..a £10 million buy 4 years ago and now possibly a £15 million(?) fee. Sounds good business to me, so that's nothing to complain about. As for his replacement(?) ...Davo must surely be in his last playing season, so can this be the breakthrough season for JWP,? who despite his 200+ apps. has never had the chance to tie down a place of his own... and is still only 23. If we see the departure of Tadic, and even Boufal we can expect to see some new, younger faces. Last season we had the second lowest average age for Prem. clubs. Although I 'd be first to say we need to have some experienced players in the squad, we also need to keep "renewing" the squad if we are to make progress.

underwent stand. I respectfully suggest you don't hold your breath in regard to J W P. Hughes doesn't appear to fancy him as witnessesed by his lack of starts after MP was sacked. J W P has by your own admission had over 200 appearances and if he hasn't broken through as a regular during that time it's not likely that he ever will in my opinion.
SonicBoom added 12:02 - Jun 21
To be fair the JWP if you have had over 200 appearances by 23 then surely you've broken through and been fairly regular ! There are very few 23 year olds with those numbers in the PL.

Sell Tadic and sign Cameron makes sense eh not.
kenis added 13:23 - Jun 21
only reason to sell is if he's coming up to less than 2 years left on his contract and wont extend / sign new terms. With Boufal desperate to leave (shame, he and hughes cant make it work) and now Tadic that would mean Redmond - who couldnt get in the side for large parts of last season and whose finishing is poor - would be our first choice "No. 10" with Sims as understudy? Cant work our planned system is it 3-4-1-2 / 3-5-1-1? Dont we need more options not less to create and score? If Hughes banking on Shaquiri coming in, I'd rather keep Tadic. Another prem club would pay £20m+ for him. No need to let go on the cheap to Ajax, cant believe fan backlash would stop them selling to a PL rival.

We are a selling club and here we go again replaced by what will be second rate players if any. What odds is it that we make a profit on our outgoings and incomings
Cjay80 added 14:13 - Jun 21
I'd rather keep him. He's a good player who clearly enjoys his time here under the right Manager in the right system. Shaq is no better, I still think Tadic has something to offer and Sims as understudy. Get rid of Boufal, he doesn't have the heart or strength to succeed in the PL.

The talent drain continues.... As soon as Les can off-load Gabbiadini and McCarthy, he'll have exactly what the board want:a make-up-the-numbers-and-hope-to-survive-team.(like Stoke the last 10 years). Kenis, you're absolutely correct! As we have learned over the years, fan backlash never stopped Les. He doesn't give a cr@p what the fans think and selling to a rival is his favourite hobby.

We already needed another attacking M/F, one better than Tadic IMO. Tadic is good in tight positions but we need someone with 'vision'...In isolation, this isn't 'the end of the world' but we should get quality in FIRST before allowing him to go. Losing out on Maddison now looks more serious.

This is disappointing news. Tadic might have his off days and might fall over more than is necessary but he is also arguably Saints most skilful player. He is a fan favourite and always acknowledges the support he gets. £15M is nothing if we can get a couple more seasons from him so Saints need to resist this move. There is certainly nobody currently on our books who could replace him.

From Tadic´ perspective I can see why this move looks very interesting. He was awesome in the eresdivision when playing for Groningen and Twente. I think he holds a record in most assists in a season. So dutch football seems to suit Tadic. Ajax is a big club who plays in Europe every season. I hope not that the deal materializes, as I think he could find his best of best forms under Hughes. Who to replace him? Danish Sisto from Celta Vigo is currently not playing well. I support the danish team in the world cup and Sisto has played annoyingly bad in the 2 first games. He reminds me somewhat of Mané but he is only half as good (on a good day). Shakiri has been sh*t in the world cup this far, too.

We better have a bloody good replacement lined up if this happens. Not good news in my opinion.

Good move in my opinion. Give Sims a chance to replace him. Maddison would have been ideal but I wonder whether they'll go for Grealish now

Mixed feelings towards this. If we were in a more stable position and had quality in reserve I'd be happy for us to sell Tadic now. We don't have that luxury, so it all depends on who we get in, and I don't have full confidence in our transfer committee at the moment
darthvader added 08:19 - Jun 22
We need to keep him. Give him an upgrade on his contract which relies heavily on bonuses for goals and assists . Then he can go for a free if he wants to in 2 years. 15 m now is small change when you consider what staying in the Prem can generate . Persuade him to stay rather than force him to stay. He seemed to play so much better under mark Hughes it would be worth the risk imo.

I don't believe that Tadic will be that fondly remembered by supporters a few years down the line, a decent player who didn't quite do enough in most games. Surely it's better for him to leave with a bit of dignity now rather than later in the summer when he is surplus to requirements after the team has been refreshed by new signings? Of course it would be good to know who we are actually going to sign, rather than be linked with by various media hacks, but I'm ridiculously optimistic that the relegation scare will have been a wake up call to Reed and co. Whether Maddison was one that got away only time will tell but let's remember the derision from some when Bednarek and McCarthy were signed and seen as no hopers. Even Mane was pretty naff, for months, after signing up. Don't panic yet, plenty of time to do that in the coming weeks.

I thought Tadic was great for us in the first couple of years under Koeman and linking up with Pelle. I'll always remember his first game v Liverpool when he set up Clyne for a great goal. Last two years though his performances have been quite mixed and his theatrics and complaining on pitch have worn thin. I also have a theory based on observation that whenever he and Boufal were on the pitch he would ignore him as if he felt threatened by Boufal's place in the team. Now is a great time to offload Tadic, but he must be replaced by one or two quality players - not the Redmonds or the Ward-Prowses - quality attacking, creative players. I wish Tadic well in Holland.

Selling Tadic and keeping Redmond...how will that work out....Boufal could be a star but telling French papers he wants to play in France is also a warning to us, but no sell Tadic anyway. I am not going to sing his all praises as he can be lacklustre but he is the only real talent who is here in body and soul...now if we sold Redmond you would remove at least 40% of the back passes, misplaced and lost possession from the front and midfield, now that would be a blessing.
