Motorhead at Spotland (nfr) 18:48 - Sep 8 with 4608 viewsBlueMessiah

Just listening to the new album (which isn't bad). Just wondering if any old rockers out there actually watched them when they played Spotland (Ray's Place I presume) in the late 70s. I got into them about 1980 and remember a faded promo poster still on the wall next to the Sandy turnstiles advertising the gig from a couple of years earlier (I tried unsuccessfully to remove said poster for my bedroom wall). Seem to remember they were supported by The Heavy Metal Kids who were fronted by Gary Holton who later found fame as Wayne in Auf Wiedersehen Pet before meeting an untimely death! Anyone there that night at Spotland? Were they any good??

10 May 1976, way before the first album was released, not living in Rochdale at the time I didn,t go to that gig but did see them at Port Vale where they headlined the " Heavy Metal Holocaust" in 1981, Ozzy Osbourne being one of the support bands

Long before I was born but I have been a diehard Motorhad fan since my dad (sandyman) let me read Lem's autobiography at far too young! ;->

Motorhead have had to cancel several recent gigs with Lem rather sadly being unable to keep going after a few songs. I urge any Motorhead fan not to watch the clip. It's sad to see.

An incredible live band though. Seen them about four or five times and been blown away everytime. The current and longest serving lineup really p*ss over the classic lineup.

To the uninitiated heck out "1916", "another perfect day" (with Brian Robertson from thin lizzy on guitar)" or better yet "Inferno" as brilliant rock albums.

Poll: Would you have Keith Hill back?

Seen them 3 or 4 times live and never a bad performance. Lemmy's lifestyle makes you wonder how he has kept going so long ( I think he has diabetes now amongst other health issues) and not surprising that his career may be coming to a close. Some good musicians have served with Motorhead in the past and at one time I think there was a link with my favourite old band the Damned ( lemmy played a few gigs with them I think??)

Brilliant band, just like a fast heavy punk band. Lemmy one of the great front men of Rock.

Think he stepped into The Damned after Algy Ward left and formed Tank (?) Sure Tank then supported Motorhead on a tour in the early 80s. He played on the b-side of I just Can't Be Happy Today - a storming cover of Sweet's Ballroom Blitz.
