| The coaching team 18:17 - Feb 10 with 6897 views | James1980 | Hill came in worked his magic got us promoted happy days. He announces his loyalty to Dale and he is not going anywhere next thing, 'byeeeeeee I'm off to Barnsley' Did that for a section of supporters equate to treacherous behaviour that was going to be difficult to forgive? Hill came back we get promoted back to league 1 hurrah. But did that only really buy Hill some time because some begrudged him getting another job with Dale after leaving to go to Barnsley? Hill and Beech are sacked but one of Hill's staff BBM takes over fortunately the team stay up and BBM is awarded a full-time contract. Were some fans not happy about that appointment because BBM was part of Hill's team? I know this is overthinking. [Post edited 11 Feb 2021 20:06]

I am unsure if Ellis is stilling acting like the No 2 to BBM or not. Most fans like BBM and say he is a nice person, but in the position we are in we need more then nice manager and the board is faced with the two basic options in my humble opinion. Option 1 is get in an experienced No 2 to help him or option 2, bite the bullet and sack him. The result at Wimbledon will possibly decide his fate, in that a defeat and the potential of us dropping into the bottom 4, based on other results, may forced the board to act. In that his position with the fans could be untenable, in that we all know once the manager loses the fans his fate to a great extent is determined.

The ideal situation is with a turnaround in form/results/performances/players leaving everything on the pitch. BBM wins back the supporters he has lost and doesn't lose any more. My concern is some folk are very stubborn and once their mind is made up that is it.

I disagree James - I think football fans are among the most fickle people around. But it's totally natural, because we are all passionate and because all want the same thing - for Rochdale to win football matches. If the form turns around quickly, the supporters opinions will turn around just as quickly. The issue is that a turnaround like that rarely happens once the atmosphere among the fanbase reaches this stage.

It’s also that this is a very unique time to be a Dale fan, both in terms of how we are able to support the club and also the opinions of the team and especially the manager. There is no real anger towards BBM from the majority (learnt that from all the top journos), there really isn’t and this forum illustrates this. People are not being unfair, they’re being reasoned in their views. But yeah, win three in the bounce and there will be that sort of fickle reaction, which actually serves to illustrate the point because usually fans have turned again the individual as well as their performance in the role. This hasn’t really happened with BBM.

I guess I am overly concerning myself with what will probably be a very small intransigent group.

At the moment I’d be ecstatic winning one game on the bounce. Winning three in a row is probably well beyond the capabilities of this inconsistent squad.

You don’t normally get players saying the opposite though, do you? They tend to publicly support the management.

Fair point but he could have made a less enthusiastic and more neutral reply if he felt like his development was off his own bat. He has the physical tools and BBM has given him the guidance and confidence to showcase those in match settings, leading to his imminent move.

| The coaching team on 12:13 - Feb 11 by James1980 | Humphrys was saying in a recent interview, something along the lines of BBM is about 10 years ahead of his time in terms of man management. Hopefully the team can put together a run of results. |
If this is the kind of football that’s produced from man management ten years ahead of its time, I don’t want to be watching football in 2031.

We have seen the style of football BBM wants to play. Just by other teams who have executed it much more proficiently compared to us.
