So why in the three years since crowds returned to grounds haven’t we introduced cash turnstiles?
The tickets can be given to a turnstile operator to issue/scan allowing fans to go straight into the ground without queuing at the ticket office or the Trust desk to hand over cash.
It’s either still the “best practice”, or we’ve simply not reacted well enough and blame the past. Just for a change. |

It wasn't possible then because of the EFL. The Trust told us:
The Club stated that they needed to have a proper discussion with our ticketing partners and those at the Club who work on ticket sales to see what can be done. As things currently, with the scanners and software involved and the reports that are required to be submitted to the EFL regarding the breakdown of those attending, it is not possible to run a cash turnstile on matchdays. As a follow up to that, we discussed that we could not recall seeing any grounds in League Two so far this season that had offered cash turnstiles.

No I didn’t miss it. It was trying to understand why if a fan pays cash at the ticket office or at the other ticket outlets (wasn’t there also one at the back of the Pearl St and, on occasion, haven’t away fans been able to get them from a designated place in the Willbutts stand in the past?) why could they not give a turnstile operator the money? What info is recorded to prevent it, why can this not be collected by a turnstile operative as it would be by anyone else.
If there’s an EFL rule that prevents cash being paid at a turnstile, fair enough. But it doesn’t actually say that. And if that is the case, talking about a system brought in during Covid actually meets any such criteria, so we can’t really complain.
As you rightly point out, we’ve had over half a season at this level and heard nothing different apart from being able to pay cash at the Trust desk. They can confirm whether they have any special systems to record info and whether a turnstile operator could do the same.

Halifax away was an example of how cash turnstiles can work in this day and age. |

Who would have thought of bringing in a cashless turnstile system in the midst of a national ban on crowds attending matches and no money coming in? You have to presume that the installers were desperate to install their system and that Roger Bottom was very, very keen to do business with them. How convenient!....you wonder what boardroom discussion took place if any? Or was it a premeditated decision designed to drive us further into the arms of his mates at Morton House along the lines of killing off the Gold Bond?...an expenditure no one wanted or needed and which will have cost us a number of supporters for whom it was the final straw, an overcomplication of the simple activity of walking up and paying for an afternoon at the match. Has payment by card actually had the effect of bringing a single extra fan into the ground? I doubt it...... |  | | |

But whoever brought in the system, the replies above give some justification for why it is in place and continuing with it, along with further questions about why it couldn’t be adapted to have a turnstile that took cash whilst scanning tickets as people paid.
Two questions that need answering:
1) If there are EFL requirements what could we have done that didn’t involve using this or a similar ticketing system to retain cash turnstiles?
2. What could we have done differently since to ensure fans who want to pay cash at turnstiles and not queue at the ticket office/other outlets/attend the Trust desk can do so easily?
If the answer to Q2 is ‘nothing’, then the answer to Q1 is surely ‘not much’.

Given we are all supposed to sit in the seats named on the tickets, the club would need to print off a batch of tickets for each stand and fans paying by cash would need to sit where their ticket told them. By buying online, or at the ticket office, they can choose where to sit.
Of course that "issue" is irrelevant for the Sandy. Assuming they know how many tickets have been sold in advance for the Sandy, they can then allow XX in as cash payers without a problem. |  | | |
