Whilst I do agree with a lot you are saying, the fact is that the cup game is a one off match and you never know could go either way and we could find ourselves in a cup semi final.

I think you need to view it in proportion to our support in games generally Nick. Our support both home and away has held up well despite our performances this season.
I am going this Sunday to a game that is now on TV. Travelling 240 miles to get there, staying overnight and I have taken a day off on leave. The Villa away game is sold out and it looks like Fulham away will be as well just before Christmas.
This cup game is mid-week, close to Christmas and for people like me would need at least 2 days leave. Sometimes you have to weigh it all up. I know you will quote how well Liverpool supporters still attend and have more games etc because of Europe but their fan base is wider and often as close to away games as much as home games. Would I like to have gone - yes, but money, timing, distance etc means that there are some games I just decide I have to miss and I am sure there are many like that. | | | |

Those that travel from distance have a genuine excuse for not making a long journey in midweek, but the reality is that a very large proportion of our regular home support comes from a radius of around 40-50 miles.
So if you add on those that can't get tickets etc on the data base we probably have another 30,000 people who are not regular fans, that should mean that for a game like this we should not have a problem selling out.
Games like this with the prevalent attitude being that things are c*** so I'm not going, show why St Mary's has never been expanded in almost 24 years of it's existence.
To be blunt our support is just too fickle, if those fans that purport to be die hard loyals and have season tickets and go to away games can just turn their back, what hope have we of increasing our fan base and expanding the stadium.
There has been a lot of moaning of late about the manager, but what has actually been done aside from individuals moaning about it on the internet.
The answer is absolute zero, I have said this several times over the years, but if someone is so concerned about the manager and the owners, then why don't they do something tangible and actually organise a protest.
If those that are going to boycott the game turned up and protested outside, then that would send a big message, but for most in this modern day and age, that is actually too much effort.
Of course I would not expect those living outside the area to turn up and do this, but if we can't raise a few hundred people from a 50-60,000 database to do this it tells you something | |

We don’t need to expand the stadium as there are too many plebs in attendance already that watch the game through their mobile screen. Let’s be honest, had we of been in this era now with the huge tv monies I would have even suggested there was no point leaving The Dell as the extra 17,000 bums on seats have made little difference to us whatsoever. Aside from the Liebherr years, we are back to propping up the league and being relegation candidates. |  |
