Am I the only one who heard the proper thick old guy nearly call the referee a pikey, which he changed at the last second to pie can (I'm actually from Oldham originally and have never heard piecan as a slur).

There were some shirt tugs that could have had yellows and THE Old Biffo was shouting for them, yet any challenge on Dale players was perfectly fair.

I know the lads on Dale player are pro Dale but they do seem to be relatively fair in commentary. The two biffo commentators struggled to say how good Bird's goal was. Yet the Oldham equalizer was described as brilliant

Listening to the Oldham commentators today and a few of the other team's around the league (Halifax spent 70 minutes calling Waller, Walker) makes you realise, in my opinion at least how good the guys who do ours are.

I always find their views honest, balanced and professional. I have only watched the first half today but the Oldham ones were extremely bitter towards the Dale. Yes DAZN uses the local commentary team but they need to be more neutral with their comments.

Every time we got a freekick today, "it should have been an Oldham freekick 30 seconds before". When the majority were good challenges with Oldham being caught in possession.

I thought he was calling the referee a ‘pieman’ … not that it makes any more sense that way either!

My old man used to use the phrase back in the 60's......"Pie-can" might refer to the aluminium foil containers we get our meat & potato pies in, or just Fray Bentos???

Can,t comment on what was actually said as after about 15 minutes I switched the sound off. It enhanced my viewing experience.
However I think "piecan" must be an age thing as I heard it often in my youth. Am born and bred Rochdale, so not an Oldham thing. I called someone a "tripehound" the other day and was told by someone in their sixties from Heywood they had never heard of it. Whereupon their partner from the Black country said his father used to use the term.
Perhaps our lexicon of insults is diminishing alongside our freedom of speech.

I remember both “piecan” and “tripe hound” being used as insults whilst I was in my schooldays in the 1960s along with “knobstick”.

Hmmm. The stonewall Halifax penalty against Beckwith at the Shay the other week that our commentator described as 'shoulder to shoulder' and not being enough to send the attacker to the ground is a good example of how (some) of our lot can be pretty badly biased too.

Tangled up in blue.

AI has ‘piecan’ as originating from Wigan and translates as ‘simpleton’

In my view our commentary team are knowledgeable and professional, however they can sometimes struggle with technical matters.

I do agree with you on the Beckworth penalty though.

Lots of other clubs are much more biased and less objective.

Actually I would like our commentators to be more pro dale!
