Of course he has to improve the squad, we're playing at a higher level. If the squad last year was good enough why didn't McNulty retain them all? Watson has stated how he intends to play, you need to listen to his interviews and then criticise him for wanting us to be better, playing with intensity etc. McNulty hasn't a track record of managing in the EFL so we wont be able to compare. Watson will be managing at a higher level. I think we need to sign perhaps another eight players who are all capable of starting at Tranmere, alongside those who have been retained. They all start training with a clean slate and they are all picked on merit, everybody fighting for a place in the starting line up. Playing under different managers is pretty normal for footballers when you think how often they are recycled at clubs. Our last season in EFL2 resulted in relegation so being complacent and thinking that what we did last year will be good enough is a dangerous mindset, especially when three of our best players are no longer at the club. If Edwards refuse a new contract and left for a new club, we would still qualify for a fee, in that came through our youth set up and is only 18. Hopefully he will sign, the three who may be sold or loaned out, is Rodney (who if the rumour is correct, is interesting Forest Green). The other is Humbles, I don't think he is a bad player, but was sent out loan last season, so he may be either sold or loaned to a NL team like Altrincham
The third one is Beckwith, who was rated before his injury, so the question is there still interest in him and will the board refuse offers for him. There was rumour that County may be interested in him, but reading their forum, they would prefer Perry and I wonder, if thre was there any condition in McNulty move to County, about not coming for Dale players. Yes Gordon as gone to Stockport, but he was out of contract and I get the impression it was underway before McNulty left. [Post edited 16 Jun 12:14]
