I thoroughly enjoyed the match on Saturday, and driving home after a good win always feels special. I thought the club organised the day well, offering Oldham the mandatory 20% of tickets. and the stewarding and policing around the ground were the best I can remember for an Owdum derby. We know they have form. Restricting the Willbutts stand to the mandatory minimum is the right way forward.
I was intrigued by the attendance. Officially announced as 6121, of which 1880 were from Oldham. So that means we had 4241 home fans. Which for us, and the recent form we have been in, was tremendous. And something to build on for project 5,000.
We announced we had sold over 7,000 tickets the day before the game. I know about 85 Oldham fans (4%) that had bought a ticket didn't show. But by my calculations we had 800 of our own fans with tickets that didn't show. They can't all be the free kids season tickets surely as the stands looked pretty full to me. Or did they show and we don't count them as they are free?
Knowing that the ground has a lower capacity today of c9800 compared to 10,300 when redeveloped, and stripping out the Willbutts capacity, COA has a home capacity of c6325. About 2100 more than attended on Saturday. Where would an additional 2000 fans go because the seated stands looked pretty full to me. And the Sandy didn't look like it could accommodate another 2,000 fans? I am simply intrigued. |  | | |  |

It's definitely something for the club to look at. One of the dangers of free season tickets, how do you actually get them to attend more often. I think they said at the forum there were around 800 season ticket holders missing from the Crawley game. There were loads of empty seats in Pearl St, just out of my group & the row in front were 5 season ticket holders who couldn't make it for one reason or another.
Don't get me wrong it's been a success so far with a really good increase in home support, probably the best run of home crowds in my lifetime, but it could be even better if we can get the extra 800 or so to attend more regularly. |  |

The first was the number of seemingly empty seats in the Main Stand block nearest to the Sandy.
And whilst the Sandy itself was fairly full a number of “regulars” who normally stand near me were missing. On holiday? Unable to attend due to early kickoff? Who knows?
The Sandy was certainly less full than, for example, the York game at the end of last season. | | | |

The main stand was odd. It wasn't just the Sandy end that had unoccupied seats, but a fair number in the Pearl St end, more so than other Saturday games this season
Might well have been that ST holders weren't able to make the early kick off, and the Sandy itself looked no more occupied than usual
Having said that, Dalenet's point about where an extra 2000 might be accommodated is valid
I can't agree with the decision to funnel the entire Pearl St out at a single exit. There were more than enough police at the Willbutts corner to allow more exits to be used. Some less mobile fans were at risk of being pushed and jostled, not through people being thoughtless but through sheer weight of numbers encroaching together. It'll only take one case of someone being trampled on for a potential claim against the club |  |

Kettling is Never a good idea especially with the demographic of our fan base. Older and younger the point regarding trampling is a good one.
Whoever thought last season that it’s a good idea is obviously still in the same decision making role that is a worry.
Stewards would not even let an elderly chap use the toilet under the stand. Obviously customer service stops at the full time whistle.

Didn’t agree with that exit strategy last year & still don’t now. Terrible idea & completely supporter unfriendly, not a good experience. At the same time you’ve got Millwall v West Ham going on sharing a stand separated only by about 3 seats & here we are acting like its Boca Juniors v River Plate. Completely disproportionate. | |

Yes, but bear in mind the club are dealing with a police force who can put on a mcr derby at seemingly any time of day to suit sky but insist on dale v Oldham being a 12.30 ko regardless of tv coverage. |  | | |

There has been other contact made re this and inconsistent stewarding, and seat labelling.
